The idea that state violence is legitimate, or exceptional, and that it isn’t even framed as violence is unthinkingly accepted by most people in stable democracies. Tubridy is far from being alone in his hypocrisy and naive moralising. But that’s intentional. You don’t get to be the one of the nation’s biggest TV stars by questioning the power structures that empower the ruling classes.

Tubridy is a West Brit. Simple as that. Constantly trying to guilt Martin or make the Provisional IRA's military actions look worse than the British Armies. I knew Martin and as a man he was the most genuine and polite man you could ever meet. Tubridys grandfather fought on the Republican side during the Irish Civil War. Obvously none of his grandas republican principles trickled down to him. That said, these talk shows always dissolve into juvenile acrobatics when the interviewers wheel out the same tired old questions about IRA membership and sleepless nights. Predictable and boring.

4:36 is why Tubridy and his elite friends are so against Sinn Fein getting into government. People living in Dublin and Republic in south have no idea what it was like growing up in the North back then and even now(myself included). He didn’t invent the IRA, He was born into it, and there is no reality or land on earth where a people’s army wouldn’t of been born out the treatment and position the Brits had in Ireland. But he did help to bring an end to violence and should be remembered as an Irish Hero. RIP Martin

The Queen and other members of the royal family haven’t condemned the actions of the paras and other units of the British army because they can’t. As a constitutional monarchy, they are not, cannot and will never express partisan or political views of any nature. However, privately they’re allowed to do so and privately, Lord Mountbatten supported a United ireland.

When u was a boy in the 50s I often went to bed with a very sore bottom for not telling the truth. I eventually figured out the hard way as well as the sore way it does no good to lie. When truthful you can never be tripped up. So it was tonight. I was a witness in a trial asked 20 questions on same issue I was asked after trial what was my trick for not being tripped up. Some very sore bottoms as a child was my reply.

Tubridy was just adopting the hard nosed attitude that Gay Byrne did when he had Gerry Adams on the late late show. Tubridy can only interview when the subject is on to promote a new book. He is just a light weight (pun intended) who is incapable of carrying out any interview of substance.
