How was it occupied when in 1921 there was an agreement with the original IRA leader's Michael Collins that Ireland got independence but Northern Ireland was to remain under British rule, this agreement was then passed through the Irish government, the problem was that some Irish republican's (IRA) didn't keep their side of the deal.

This interviewer is no match for Martin McGuinness. He fails himself with his questions. He doesn’t listen. Very poor but great to listen to Martin. Back channels aren’t back doors! FGS! Thatcher made huge errors with NI. And she knew it. It was intelligence services eg special branch that were the back door

The sin of Sodom was NOT homosexuality. Check the original Hebrew and Greek of the scriptures. I was a Baptist Pastor. There is no reason whatsover why Genesis 19 can't be translated "All the PEOPLE of Sodom...where are the PEOPLE."

The cheer for Martin Guinness when being announced rather shames Ireland. McGuinness may well have been a reformed gunman, albeit his motives can be questioned, but he was still a commander within the Provisional IRA. A terrorist organisation and an organisation as much about organised crime as political ambition. His lack of education is not untypical of those in the IRA ranks. Nothing was achieved through violence and violence was completely unnecessary. Northern Ireland is and was not ever an entity that owed its status to British imperialistic ambition. If the British could have rid themselves of the whole of Ireland in the 1920s then they would have. The threat of highly organised unionist paramilitary action and all out civil war led to partition. The issues facing N.I. Catholics in the run up to the Troubles were wholly due to the unionist dominated institutions controlling jobs and housing. British troops were only sent to N.I. to initially defend the Catholic communities from unionist violence. But whatever the injustices facing Catholics in N.I. they were not denied freedom of movement, were not denied their own political representation or right to assembly, and had their own Catholic schools funded by the state. A sledgehammer was used to try and crack a nut. The UK racial discrimination acts of mid 1960s including access to the European courts followed up by employment discrimination laws could have been used to their benefit. Had the thousands raised for arms been spent on top notch London barristers even more so. After all Britain is a democracy, the oldest parliamentary democracy, with a free press. Republican terrorism has rendered Irish unity a pipe dream. Naive Southerners seem to think that Brexit will paper over decades of violence and the resulting resentment in unionist communities with the main party in Ireland being the very party that was the political wing of the IRA. Ireland has been dragged its "Mickey Mouse" Catholic church dominated backwardness by one too many priests fiddling with the choirboys and one too many illegitimate kids being sold off to rich Americans. Ironically Ireland is now rather more progressive than its neighbour with regard to gay marriage and the like. Without Republican violence the conditions might well have existed for a union but terrorism has killed the notion. And any Irish Catholics who would be happy for Ireland to be unified against the will of N.I. unionists need a reality to check. The resulting sectarian violence would make the Troubles look like a PTA fundraiser and the Irish army (if it can be called an army) would just not be able to cope.

@@jackietreehorn5561 Quite easy to judge. In fact I would argue that someone observing from a distance, with no particular vested interest, can be objective and those immersed in rabid sectarianism from birth cannot.

@@jackietreehorn5561 Yes uneducated. The IRA recruited from disaffected working class lads and not from universities and professional institutions. The IRA operatives did not enter the Maze with degrees and PhDs. And not sure what difference the behaviour of Loyalist paramilitaries makes. Just a difference side of the same turd.
