In March 2023, Rivers of Nihil wrapped up a recording session that saw the now four-piece band birth a considerable amount of new music featuring their previous bassist/backup vocalist Adam Biggs as the new lead vocalist/bassist. This recording session also marked the first appearance of new guitarist Andy Thomas (ex-Black Crown Initiate), whose vocals also play prominently in the music, as a member of Rivers of Nihil. These new singles are the first to showcase the band’s new lineup in full-on collaboration, and demonstrates that while this is a new, brave sound with tons of potential, it also carries the band's classic energy.

Nah, he was the heart and soul of BCI. He sounds like an afterthought in RoN. At least, this far. He also sounds a bit whiny in this one, which is a first for him. I hope they don't turn into a metalcore shitshow

@@theodorev666 Definitely agreed he was the heart and soul of BCI. But I think Rivers is utilizing him perfectly in context with what they do and how their sound is evolving. As far as them turning into a "metalcore shitshow" ... I don't even see how that's a thought given their last full-length and the singles they've released since. Yes, there's some clean singing, but nothing about this says metalcore.

I've got the perfect recommendation for you, check out "No Tomorrow" by Vintersea. The drumming on that song is phenomenal and there's a full drum solo in the middle, Vintersea is a female fronted Progressive Death Metal band (with cleans as well). This song is the album closer for their most recent album "Woven Into The Ashes" (amazing album from start to finish), highly recommend checking out Vintersea!

Awesome track. I just got to know Jake is not on board anymore, damn. They surely can manage it musically but his stage presence was definitely a plus. If Criminals is typical for the sound of a next album they'll have me waiting anxiously though.

Really enjoying the foreboding guitar passages layered subtly in the mix -- gives me some Monarchy vibes. Also want to say Biggs has really impressed me vocally with these releases. He's always been great doing back-up vocals, but hearing him at the forefront made me realize how much power he has. Fuckin' sick!

Writing this before the official release, but have heard the song already, and it is fantastic. When Clean and Focus came out I couldn't "get" it, but when I heard The Work as a whole they made so much sense. I am very convinced they are going to do it again with Criminals.

Downright Biblical but in reverse, show me the fruits of the tree, and I'll show you the tree that bourned them AKA by their fruits ye shall know them. Reminds me a little bit of that A7X album that propelled them to rock and roll stardom, The City of Evil I think. I do miss the sax solos though.

Saw the band live, they opened for Whitechapel, was there for Revocation around the time "The Saw is the Law" came out. Then I met the drummer at Dan's house in Sparks NV, close to Reno. Didn't even know what to say. Like, you guys are my celebrities, and I'm friends with friends of your friends. It's a small world afterall. Was just like, "Hi", as he was perusing through Magic the Gathering cards.
