Concerning your doubt about Matia Bazar, whose singer's voice Antonello Ruggiero was very similar to Giuni's one: you are absolutely right. But while the repertoire of the Matia Bazar was extremely elaborated and not necessarily only "spectacular" - showing off Antonella's technique -, the songs of Giuni Russo have been too focused on showing off her spectacular vocal capabilities. This was her limit, I guess. although she has been collaborating with a big like Franco Battiato, her career was very fragmented and not homogeneous enough. Her technique has been at the same time her strong point and her weak point, while the Matia Bazar's career has been way longer and much more varied in terms of artistic choices snd research (also: Giuni died pretty young, while Antonella is alive and still very active un italy as a soloist).

Unfortunately she's been criminally ignored, mistreated and underrated by the italian music/record industry, except maybe for her greatest hit "Un Estate Al Mare". For instance, it took almost 24 years for the album from which this song "Una Vipera Saró" comes from and which came out in 1981 on vinyl, to be released on Cd in 2005 and 33 years to be re-released on vinyl in 2013. Imagine if in the U.S. or England some highly regarded album by a well regarded artist for example by Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd etc. would have been treated that way

Sorry guys, I don’t know if you are musicians or even if you know what one octave is, but: Giuni Russo's vocal extension was ALMOST three octaves. Which is absolutely insane and extremely wide for a human being. To make a concrete exemple of what I'm talking about: the piano (musical instrument) has a range of a little bit more than seven octaves. I don’t know if you know that no human being can posses such a range, whose extension goes from more than one octave lower than the deepest note of the deepest male voice (basso profondo) to more than one octave higher than the highest note of the highest adult human voice (soprano di coloratura)! So, ok: she was something, but still a human being !
