Much more coming from pentatonix!

Okay, you asked for it, so here goes. Pentatonix 101: First, the members: • The first singer in this video, the tall blond guy, is Scott Hoying. Scott is a lyric baritone. He has a range of something like five octaves, from well into the bass range to well into the tenor range. • The second singer is Mitch Grassi (pronounced Grah'-see, emphasis on the first syllable). Mitch is a natural contratenor; he has a range of just over 6 octaves and specializes in ethereal high melodies. In this song, while he was well within his range he was singing lower than he likes. • The third singer, black guy in a white jacket, was Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee', emphasis on the second syllable). Matt is the youngest member of Pentatonix, being two years younger than Mitch who was their previous youngest member. Matt is a lyric bass. I'm not certain exactly what his range is - it appears that he's still growing into his full range - but the lowest note I've ever heard him sing sounded to me like true basso profundo low, and the highest note was well into the tenor range. Matt has a very warm bass; it reminds me of curling up under a soft blanket with a purring cat, and of good chocolate. • Matt is also the newest member of Pentatonix; he joined them in late 2017 or early 2018 (depending on how you figure it) after their previous bass, Avi (pronounced Ah'-vee, emphasis on the first syllable) Kaplan left for personal reasons. Avi is also a lyric bass, and the reason I can recognize basso profundo is that Avi is an operatically trained basso profundo - his lowest notes have blown out speakers in live performances. I believe that Avi's range and Matt's range are about the same; with Matt's voice still developing I expect that his range will eventually be greater than Avi's. And the reasons I mention Avi are that if you continue listening to Pentatonix you'll encounter a lot of songs that Avi sings in, so you need to know who he is - he's bearded and usually wore a beanie or a stocking cap. The other reason is that he's important in the story of how they met, which is coming up. • The fourth singer in this video is the only woman in Pentatonix, Kirstin (also known as Kirstie, rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado. Kirstin is officially a mezzo soprano, because that's her preferred range, but she can actually sing anywhere from the low end of alto (though not contralto) through coloratura soprano, with some gorgeous whistle notes on top of that. • This brings us to the only member of Pentatonix who didn't have a solo in this video, because he was too busy being the entire percussion section: Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth), beatboxer extraordinaire. There may be a better beatboxer than Kevin somewhere, but if so I've never encountered him. But Kevin is so much more than "just" a beatboxer. He's classically trained on piano, saxophone, and cello. Long before Pentatonix existed Kevin had performed at Carnegie Hall twice, once on the saxophone and once on the cello. He's invented a technique of beatboxing while playing the cello which he calls "celloboxing." He has perfect pitch. He has a pre-med degree from Yale. He speaks five languages, including Mandarin. I've heard him sing in a high baritone range, but his normal range is tenor; he has a lovely voice and is known for the great beauty of his falsetto. He's a really nice guy, and when he laughs the whole world seems like a brighter place.

This is one of the best explanation comments I’ve read..ok I don’t read any but the top ones but that’s a lot for me. I love how you explained pronunciation of each name, well done. In regards to MATT I love the analogy of a purring cat and a warm blanket. But with AVI…I don’t hear him as much as I FEEL him deep in my chest and soul. Then there’s KEVIN…I usually just say he’s a freak of nature. I knew he spoke English and Mandarin, but don’t know the other 3? Would Nigerian and Grenadine also be two? KIRSTIE?..When she belts she blows me away. But her lower register is so engaging. Lastly, because he will ALWAYS be MY MITCH (I loving share him the millions of others) 🤷🏻‍♀️ what’s to say. I 🫠melt at his highs. But I so enjoy when he goes into his lower. Anyway, great comment.

Kevin, the one who didn’t do a solo, is the beat boxer. He was the drums and percussion section, all done vocally. He is a tenor and occasionally gets a solo.

They have been singing together a very long time, the center three since childhood. Kevin, on the right, was at Yale doing his pre-med when Scott (the first singer) saw his viral cello-boxing video (where he beatboxed and played cello simultaneously), so he called to invite him to come audition with them for the Sing Off eleven years ago. He sings beautifully but is their beatboxer, so doesn't get as many opportunities to shine as a soloist. Their original bass singer, Avi, went solo and left the group in 2016 or 17, and they added their new bass man, Matt, (on the left). All of them have solo side projects, but as a group they have multi-platinum albums, literal billions of KZfaq views, millions of subscribers, 3 Grammy awards, and they sell out stadiums all over the world. They are well known in three main categories, covers (Pentaholics call them "upgrades"), uniquely refreshed Christmas music, and fantastic original music. Welcome to PTX! I hope you'll explore them further!

Pentatonix They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that. The founding members are:- Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead); Kirstin "Kirstie" (Rhymes with "Thirsty") Maldonado (the only female member, natural mezzo soprano, but can go down to low alto and as high as upper soprano, also can sing in whistle notes that are off the scale); For a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”. Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease); Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair),(Not in this video) true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range; and Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world−class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre−med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese). Kirstie, Scott & Mitch grew up together in Arlington, Texas, and began performing together as children in local youth musical theater. They ended up in high school together and performed in the choir. While there, they formed an a cappella group called The Trio which had several performance videos go viral on KZfaq, most notably a cover of Lady Gaga′s "Telephone". The three of them are best friends and consider themselves to be almost siblings. Scott & Kirstie (who were a class year ahead of Mitch) both graduated high school in 2010 and went their separate ways to different colleges, Scott at USC and Kirstie at Oklahoma. While at USC, Scott joined a USC−based a cappella group called the SoCal VoCals, where he met alumnus Ben Bram, who was now an arranger and vocal coach for the NBC TV show The Sing Off, an a cappella competition show. Ben convinced Scott to get The Trio to audition for the show. The three reunited (Mitch had to skip high school graduation ceremonies to go) in Los Angeles for the audition. They found out that the rules had changed, so they needed at least five members to audition. Ben put them together with Avi (a native of Visalia, California), who he knew from Avi′s performing days at Mount San Antonio College in California. They found Kevin (from Kentucky) through one of his KZfaq videos that had gone viral featuring him playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time, a talent that Kevin coined as "Cello−Boxing". Kevin arrived in Los Angeles literally the day before the audition! Scott came up with the name "Pentatonix" after the pentatonic scale. They performed a re−arrangement of "The Telephone" for the audition and passed, despite having been together as a five−piece group for less that 24 hours! They won The Sing Off that season (all of the performances are available on KZfaq), in which they received a substantial cash prize AND a record contract with Epic Records. They pooled their prize winnings together and all moved to Los Angeles, and all got apartments right next door to each other in the same building. But just a week later, Epic dropped them because the marketing people didn′t think an a cappella group could sell records. Instead of giving up, they were determined and began recording their own songs on KZfaq, hiring Ben Bram as their producer and arranger. These usually consisted of the five of them sitting on a couch and performing cover songs live. Several of the videos went viral, and Sony (the parent company of Epic) decided to give them another chance by placing them on one of their smaller labels, Madison Gate. They released two secular EPs and one Christmas EP on Madison Gate, all of which were strong sellers. But when their cove r of a medley of songs by Daft Punk not only went super−viral, but also won them their first Grammy, they were promoted all the way up to RCA Records, Sony′s top label. They began writing and producing their own songs in addition to their covers, began putting out a Christmas album just about annually (which has become their best−selling genre), and have had multi−platinum album sales, sold−out world tours, and have won two additional Grammys. Avi began getting burned out with all of the touring and heavy recording schedule, was suffering from anxiety and personal problems, and learned that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017. He announced he was departing from the group and taking some time away from the music industry. Matt Sallee (from Baltimore) joined them in September 2017. He did only become official when they renewed their RCA contract in February 2018, but he recorded with them in September as a featured artist and went on their Christmas tour as a featured artist, as well. When he attended the audition for the group, he had already mastered the Bass part for most if not all their past catalogue. He was successful and has proved that he fits in well with the group. If you think there have been other changes to the line up - look again. This is the ONLY change. Kirstie and Mitch are like chameleons and change looks frequently. After a year away from music, Avi has now returned as a phenomenal solo artist in the Folk/Americana/Roots genre. Ben Bram has been in charge of their production, including arranging and directing from the beginning. He is often referred to as the sixth member. Scott and Kevin are major players in the arrangements, but every member contributes. good watch is "The Recording of Evergreen" where a camera was invited into the studio for the second week of recording/ Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work. Ed Boyer who mixes everything of theirs (even the HWB Livestream) is the one who pulled Ben Bram into the sing off in the first place. They were nominated for a 4th Grammy for their album Evergreen, but didn't win. Kirstie became a new mum which caused a pause in touring after their Evergreen Christmas tour 2021. Mid March 2023 Kirstie has announced that she is engaged to Ben Hausdorff, their videographer. No dates YET! They have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame installed in February 2023. They are the only a capella group with a star! Things you need to know because if you get these wrong Pentaholics will come after you with pitch forks and torches! Ha Ha!! 1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. One exception is the 90's Dance Medley where Cher used autotune as an effect - so they had to. 2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the official video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen. In the 2022 Christmas album, there are some instruments not featured throughout the album. 3- They never release something on video they can’t reproduce with the exact same quality live on-stage.

Thanks for checking out Pentatonix! They do these big songs so well, like Hallelujah, Can You Feel the Love Tonight and Prayers for This World. They can also go way introspective, like with John Lennon’s Imagine, Mad World and Say Something. For fun, try their Daft Punk medley, Bohemian Rhapsody and Come Along. Good originals include Coffee in Bed, Sing and Anchor. Honestly, any song you choose will be good. I can also mention Gold, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies and Problem, just for a little more variety. New subscriber, in the hope you will choose to explore their catalogue. Peace …

KZfaq didn't like it when I tried to put it all in a single comment, so here's the history of Pentatonix: Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie all grew up in Arlington, Texas. They were all involved with community musical theater as children, and both Scott and Kirstie met Mitch at around the age of 10, though somehow they didn't meet each other until they were both 14 and in the same class in high school. Mitch was good friends with both of them from a young age, and when Scott and Kirstie met each other as well the three became best friends. With voices like that it should be no surprise that they were all in choir in high school. Additionally, they formed a trio in order to enter a singing contest - the prize was a chance to meet the cast of _Glee._ They didn't win, but they kept The Trio together. (Yes, that was what they called their group. They've gotten better with names since. And these three are still referred to as "the trio," and the trio is at the heart of Pentatonix.) They would frequently perform at school events and occasionally on local television. Scott and Kirstie were a year ahead of Mitch in high school. They graduated in 2010, and went off to college. Scott went to USC, in southern California, and Kirstie went to the University of Oklahoma. Mitch, of course, remained in Arlington, where he was having a difficult time. Mitch and Scott are both gay, and were both out of the closet at that point, and Mitch's high voice gave the high school bullies a chance to engage in some gay bashing without acknowledging that that was what it actually was. That last year of high school must have been a very lonely and painful time for Mitch. So, Scott was at USC, and being a huge extrovert he was looking around for extracurricular activities that would give him a chance to meet people and make some new friends, and what he found was a really good amateur a cappella group named SoCal Vocals. Scott joined, and while in SoCal Vocals he met a guy named Ben Bram. At the time, Ben was working as a coach on a television program on NBC, named _The Sing-Off._ _The Sing-Off_ was a musical competition show for a cappella groups. A group would audition for the show, and if they made it on they'd compete for the entire season. Each week there would be one or two assignments - anything from doing a master mix of songs from two different artists to putting together a medley of songs from a superstar to performing a specific piece selected for the group by the judges. The group would receive their next assignments after each performance and have a week or less to put the whole thing together, rehearse their arrangement, add whatever choreography they wanted, and then they'd perform it on national television. There was a panel of three judges, all professional musicians, who would rate and critique each performance. Along the way some groups would be eliminated completely, narrowing the field. At the end of the season, after the 11th and 12th performances, viewers would be allowed to vote. The grand prize was $200,000 and a recording contract with a minor record label owned by Sony. So Scott heard about _The Sing-Off_ from Ben Bram and was much taken with it. A chance for The Trio to make a career for themselves that would keep them together permanently! He talked to Kirstie and she thought it had a chance, so all that was left was convincing Mitch. As soon as their first year of college ended Scott and Kirstie headed back to Arlington, to talk to Mitch and to be there for his graduation. Given the year he'd just gone through Mitch was pretty much on board with any idea that would get him out of Arlington; though he doubted that people would really want to hear him sing all that much - the bullying had left him with some deep insecurities about his voice. (Please note: I'm not trying to bash Arlington or Texas here. What happened to Mitch probably would have happened no matter where he'd grown up - high school bullying is a problem everywhere.) Scott called Ben Bram to find out what they needed to do to enter their names for an audition, and found out that The Trio was too small - _The Sing-Off_ required at least five members for a group to qualify. They needed two more singers, and a new name. Ben suggested that they'd do well to add a rhythm section: a bass and a beatboxer. For a bass there was a guy he knew from SoCal Vocals who he thought would be interested - Avi Kaplan. But he didn't know who to suggest for a beatboxer. The trio spoke with Avi, who was indeed interested, and then put their heads together with him to try to figure out where to find a beatboxer. Eventually they decided to look on this new website Google had begun named KZfaq. So they typed "beatboxer" into KZfaq's search engine and the first hit they got was this black guy playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time. And they all said "Wow! He's the one! Let's see if he's available." Sounded like a plan, but how to get in touch with him? Well, at the time KZfaq had something called KZfaq messaging which would let you send a private message to someone; it has since been discontinued. So they messaged Kevin: "Hey, we really like what you're doing, and we have a rather odd question: How would you feel about coming to the other side of the country to join four strangers and audition for an a cappella competition on television?" And Kevin messaged them back. "Normally I'd be right there; I've been in a cappella groups before and loved it. But right now I'm studying for my final exams in Yale's pre-med program." Oh. Sigh. That sounded pretty definite. Better keep looking. So they did. But they couldn't find anyone as good as the celloboxer. Then two weeks later they got another message from him. "Good news. I just graduated. If the gig's still open I'm good for it." Kevin flew out just in time for them to have one day of rehearsing together before the audition. Mitch had to skip his graduation ceremony in order to audition. But the audition went well and they made it onto _The Sing-Off._ They appeared throughout the third season (2011), and eventually they won it. So they all moved to L.A., in preparation to begin recording, and a week later the recording label reneged on their contract, saying that they didn't know how to market an a cappella group. But Pentatonix weren't about to give up on their dream. They pooled their winnings and used the $200,000 as seed money. The men shared two apartments to save on rent. They lived frugally, and they used their iPhones to film themselves singing anywhere that they could find decent acoustics, and then they posted to KZfaq, where they began to build up a following. Eventually Sony took notice, and reached out to them with an offer of another recording contract, with another minor label, and they took it. Shortly after that they began winning Grammys. And again, Sony took notice. They suggested that Pentatonix might do better with their premier label, RCA, and Pentatonix has been with them ever since. Pentatonix now has three Grammys. Their 2022 nomination for a fourth lost out to Justin Bieber, sorry to say. They were awarded a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame this February. They regularly play to sold-out venues world wide. Their fans call ourselves pentaholics, and if you keep reacting to Pentatonix you should be prepared for a major bump in members, because our KZfaq feeds know enough to present us with any reaction video to Pentatonix. Oh yes. The name. Pentatonix named themselves for the pentatonic scale, a scale that contains five (penta) tones just as Pentatonix contains five (Penta) singers. Slightly obscure (though less so to musicians), but miles better than "The Quintet" would have been.

The three in the middle are from Arlington Texas and have known each other since the ages of 8-10. They can sound like one person when they harmonize. The first to sing was Scott Hoying (tall blond). His range is all over the place and he defines as a Baritone. The second, shorter guy, is Mitch Grassi. He is a true counter tenor (highest male singing voice) and you have yet to hear his soaring range which we Pentaholics refer to as being “Mitch slapped” because no one expects that range from him. The tall black gentleman on the left is their newest member, Matt Sallee. ( He is their bass) He replaced the original bass (Avi Kaplan who left for personal reasons related to family). He left in 2017. The beautiful lady is Kirstin Maldonado or Kirstie ( rhymes with thirsty) She is a Mezzo Soprano and can also soar to the rafters. People will often confuse her voice and Mitch’s voice. Also, she and Mitch change their hair and appearance a lot but it is undeniably them when they open their mouths. The other black gentleman to the right is the groups human 808 and his name is Kevin Olusola. He is a genius, and while he does sing (beautiful tenor voice) his beatboxing contribution is critical for their success and therefore does not have too many singing parts. I suggest their covers of Mary Did You Know or John Lennon’s Imagine to hear his beautiful voice. There were no “real” drums in this cover, only Kevin (yes he is that good, remember Genius?). If you do not see an instrument in the video, then an instrument was not used. If/when they occasionally do use an instrument, you will see it in the video. Scott plays piano and Kevin plays cello plus he beatboxes while playing called cello-boxing. They formed together (3 original in middle plus Avi and Kevin) in 2011 to go on season 3 of a show called The Sing Off which they ended up winning. They were awarded $200,000 and a recording contract but after dropping out of colleges for some and skipping high school graduation for another, they took the money and moved to California. After settling in California, Sony dropped them and they were left on their own to fend for themselves. 12 years, 3 Grammys (plus a 4th nomination) and a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame later, this is the result. They have original music also. I suggest their originals, Love Again and Coffee in Bed. Sorry so long but I did enjoy your reaction.

One thing to note: over the years (and sometimes even over the months!), Mitch and Kirstin change their appearances. Constantly. I think Mitch may be slowing down a bit, but Kirstin still has an extensive wardrobe of wigs (in the early days, she dyed her hair) and gets A+ makeup help for public appearances. Mitch gained and then lost weight, and also does all kinds of things with his hair and facial hair (including bald and clean-shaven at one point: check out their cover of Jolene with Dolly Parton, or their JPop Perfume Medley). But the only change in personnel over the 11+ years of their existence has been the departure of bass Avi Kaplan and the arrival of the new bass (new as of 6 years ago now ... ) Matt Sallee. So if you find yourself asking "is that Mitch" or "Is that Kirstin?" the answer is always yes.

Hallelujah, Daft Punk, dance with a sugar plum fairy, The last 2 they won grammys for.They also have a third grammy that they won with a duet with dolly parton. The first guy is scott who is the baritone But who also sings the bass, And he is also the defacto leader of the group. The 2nd is Mitch who is the counter tenor and you has a once in a generation type of voice. , you hear more of him in other songs and hear his amazing range. 3rd. Is matt who is the base and who is actually the replacement for the original base singer avi. I believe this song was his debut after replacement. The girl is kirsty rhymes with thirsty and she along with scott and mitch Met each other in high school in texas. I know scott and mitch were founders of the group But I'm not sure if Kirsty also was a founder. I'm sure someone else on here can comment on that who knows more than me. By the time they recorded and filmed this video, Matt had been a member of Pentatonix for 3 years, and they'd released 3 albums and toured all over the world with Matt. His debut in the PTX music video was in 2017 - 'Deck the Halls'. It's Kirstin or Kirstie Maldonado, not Kirsty. :) Kirstin, Mitch and Scott grew up together in Arlington, Texas. They all knew each other since middle school. They found Kevin through a viral youtube video, and they found Avi through a friend. They came together in 2011, won the TV show 'The Sing Off', and when the next week the label dropped them, started to put out videos of themselves singing a cappella covers on youtube. They had no money, no connections. They now have multi-platinum and double-multi-platinum albums (as well as multi-platinum original album which topped Billboard Top 100 in 2015), ton of original music, a documentary, 3 Grammys, and a status of one of the most talented and hardworking bands in the industry. Pentatonix's album 'Evergreen' was nominated for a Grammy (their 4th nomination) this year. They also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in February, headlined the Hollywood Bowl, and are currently on their sold out World Tour.

Scott. Kirsty and Mitch were all at school together, Scott and Mitch from age 10. They sang in every choir going, in Arlington Texas. There's a video of them as The Trio singing Gaga's 'Telephone' acapella at a school concert while kids troop onto stage behind them. It's well worth looking out. They entered a TV competition called The Sing off, in 2011, but needed more than 3 people. They found Kevin cello-boxing on KZfaq and Avi, the original bass, via a friend. The 5 of them went from The Trio to Pentatonix about 3 days before the contest, and won it. In the following year they sang at the final show, showing their new professionalism. On that series, 2012, Home Free won and Voiceplay went out near the end. These are the 3 main Acapella bands to take seriously at the moment. If you wan tto swell your channel, react to as much Pentatonix, Home Free and Voiceplay as you can. No joke. Kevin, dude on the right was all the percussion in that song, did it register?

If you want to hear Kevin solo, I recommend their -cover- upgrade of "Imagine." Be sure and watch the official video, not a live performance - vocally their live performance is identical, but visually there are things they can do in an official video that they can't reproduce live, and "Imagine" is one of three songs I can think of where this is important (the other two being "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Aha!"). I also recommend watching Kevin's KOver of Marian Hill's version of "Down": kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f62ampRqmM6Yf58.html And you'll like "Kevin's Fifth": kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eshzlNanyLTcZ2w.html

Both are great..but Mitch was really hyped up in the Singapore version plus it has the entro where Avi hits the base note that blew had to have blown out a speaker
@margretrosenberg420
@margretrosenberg420 Жыл бұрын
@@scottboyd9383 I also love "Aha Singapore the Star Vista." I just think it's better AFTER seeing the official video, because that way you aren't wondering what the heck it's about and can concentrate on what Avi and Mitch are doing. (Especially, as far as I'm concerned, Avi. To me, the progressive degradation of the sound system is the best part of that video. It wasn't just the intro; Avi kept right on singing low bass into his microphone and apparently it was blowing out speaker after speaker as remaining speakers tried to take up the slack.) I saw "Aha Singapore the Star Vista" first, and spent a large portion of it wondering why Kirstin had her head bent and her hair falling over her face - if I'd seen the official video first I would have ignored that because I'd have known where it came from. Pentatonix does two songs that are just, um, strange: "Aha!" and "White Winter Hymnal." "Aha!" is explained (at least somewhat) in the official video. "White Winter Hymnal," on the other hand, seems to be a cheerful little song about decapitation. I think they did it solely for the hand clapping stuff, kind of like the cup song from way, WAY back when.

Your reaction shows that you love music and appreciate talent and beauty when you see it. If you continue with your reactions to PTX you will see a huge increase in your subscriber base. Unfortunately, it also means that you’ll run into SME, and copyright issues. You might want to put some transparent text over the video, I hear less complaints from content creators that use the method. They started in 2011 making their own content on KZfaq, so pay attention to the release dates and you’ll be able to get a sense of their evolution. I hope to join you in your journey.

Thanks for reacting to Pantatonix. Like most of the Pentatonix fans, we cannot wait for you to react to as many of their songs as you can. Avi Kaplan was the original base and left the group. You might want to check out his solo stuff as well. Most members have other amazing talent, not just their voices. They record in the studio, as most all recording are, but the wall of sound is created by filling or dubbing in their voices several times to give depth, but it is all them, no one else. In concert, they are still amazing without the backfill.

Pentatonix has hundreds of videos and billions of views on KZfaq. When KZfaqrs concentrate on reacting to Pentatonix they see their KZfaq numbers skyrocket and subscriptions go way up (hint hint). Pentatonix fans (Pentaholics) love to watch people react to their favorite group. Pentatonix does all musical genres including oldies from every decade from the 1940s to present, Christmas & Holiday music (their specialty), gospel (Amazing Grace), rap (Can't Hold Us), electronic music (Daft Punk, Grammy), classical music (Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Grammy), country (Jolene, Grammy), movie music (Can you Feel the Love Tonight), and quite a number of their own creations (Sing, Be My Eyes, Evergreen). If you continue with Pentatonix you will find that all 5 are fully capable of separate successful solo musical careers. The beat boxer, Kevin, was a child prodigy on the saxophone and cello. On a few Pentatonix videos Kevin plays the cello while beat boxing (Shallow). The tenor, Mitch, has a musical range that is matched only by about 5 other singers on the planet. He is a freak of nature with an angelic voice that stuns listeners to the point where their jaw drops open and their eyes get wide. Pentaholics call this being "Mitch Slapped". There has been one change in personnel. Avi was the bass from 2011 to 2017. He left Pentatonix on good terms and Matt took over as bass. Scott sings bass when Avi or Matt has a solo.

One you might like (or might not) is Bohemian Rhapsody. I would say 98% of the people who react to it love it and are blown away that they could stay so close to the original while being acapella. I think those that dislike it, are already going into the video thinking they're going to dislike it because, how dare someone try to do a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody, especially a group like this. If you do watch that one, you will notice that there is one member change. The bass singer in The Sound of Silence, Matt (white jacket), joined in 2017 I believe. The original bass, Avi, left for personal reasons in 2016. So some of the older videos will feature him.

uh if you hate it then why are you here listening to it? Also most of the members know an instrument - Kevin besides having swallowed a drum kit, knows how to play Cello and Saxophone and had been to carnegie hall TWICE, once as cello and once as saxophone before pentatonix even formed in 2011! Scott plays Piano (and I believe Mitch does as well), and Avi (their original bass before Matt joined) played guitar
