Great video! I've just started using metallic watercolor on black watercolor paper and I'm addicted. :-)

I've used metallic and iridescent mediums forca long time, and now I've started using pearlescent medium too. Works great for home made holiday cards.

Last Christmas i did cards with metallic watercolours Van Gogh on black paper; I prefered the flowers I did with gouache and metallic watercolours on top of certain parts rather than completely with metallic watercolours, because these ones were too dependent on the way light is falling on the painting.

great at encouraging experiencial learning IMO a prerequisite for a teacher of any skill in the arts.another well done demo😊

I like iridescent for accents in a cats eye. Also nice for snow. I’m very careful to use it last and rinse well.

It comes in handy for humming birds. Evening gowns, I have found it does work to mate water look wet. Lots of fabrics, lame, sequined, even velvet if you use a dry brush, jewelry, the moon, sun rays.

Minnesotan here. I have some Metallics and have used them when painting fish. Interesting video!

Thank you for sharing this info. I’ve tried the metallic paints on black paper and it was ok. Wasn’t as deep or saturated as I thought, not rich enough. Tried to make an Xmas card with stars in the sky and border. All my colors were too light, even on a dark sky. They seem to work better on Bee paper, not so much on Arches or black. Very pastel after dry. After watching this, I’m going to try the iridescent medium with my bolder colors. Thanks again.

I´m thinking it is a real challenge to create a picture of a naturly looking peacock feather. 😃

I have some iridescent paints and also some iridescent medium from W&N. On the ‘cheaper’ sets, the mica easily come off the paper (artwork) when dry. The iridescent medium is more useful to me. I use it as a glaze over select areas for added impact. However, I still don’t find much use for iridescent watercolors. They look wonderful on black paper, but not so great on white. Gansai Tambi paints have some pearlescent colors which I use for rendering prints on kimonos, but still not terribly useful. Sigh. Also, because the mica is hard to remove from brushes, I have a dedicated set of a few brushes which I use only for these types of paints.

I use separate water for metallics, gouache, and "regular" watercolors.
