This song reminds me of my dad, who committed suicide when I was 20, he was a war vet and Metallica was his fav band. I only play it twice a year, on his birthday and on a day he decided to end his life. Happy Birthday Dad.

@@WasilijSaizev I'm pretty sure it's about suicide since it talks about losing the will to live and at the end he says "Death greets me warm , Now I will just say goodbye" and it fades. (Fades to black)
@WasilijSaizev3 жыл бұрын
@@Draddex no, this is the change inside of you. The thing, you lose is your part, that fades to black. It's the part where the music changes in the song. Since he is ascing people:"Are you alive?" He said that in the interview.
@Draddex3 жыл бұрын
@@WasilijSaizev "It's a suicide song, and we got a lot of flak for it, as if kids were killing themselves because of the song. But we also got hundreds of letters from kids telling us how they related to the song and that it made them feel better." -James Hetfield in an interview with Guitar World (1991). Hetfield also explained that he and Lars were obsessed with death while making the album. So yes, the song is about suicide. The reason why the song is so popular and why it's such a masterpiece is because so many people including myself relate to feelings portrayed in the lyrics.

This is probably the best Metallica song for two reasons: 1. The sexiness of the harmony/melody connection 2. Lars actually finds a sweet spot and for a few minutes there sounds like a good drummer And that's just beautiful.

You can't understand people that want to commit suicide. It is a state of mind none of us ever understood. I said the same thing except the GOD part then my grandfather commited suicide and one of my best friends wanted to kill himself. Talking to him opened my eyes, he talked to me and was honest it is not that he has bad life it is a mixture of fellings like being anxious, can't breathe, wanting to get out of your own skin. So everytime I her someone commited suicide I remember my friend and how it was horrible to listen to him and his state of mind that was messed up for no reason.

To me, depression means a lot of things, a lot more than just a feeling. I've had days where I just feel a little blue or a bit off and felt depressed, and I've had days where it's consumed me, everything I do, say, hear, think and feel and made me feel completely devoid of any semblance of identity or humanity. I've been in hospital and seen more people than I can remember and I've tried 4 or 5 different medications. Depression is one of those things in life you can't fully put into words, you can try and read about it and listen to people talk about it, but until it gets in your head for whatever reason, you can't fully understand what it's like or even what it is. And if you are ever trying to understand why someone has taken their life and find you just don't understand, then it seems you either have a lighter dark place, you don't have one at all, or you are yet to find yours. But please know that regardless of how bad a place someone can be in, even if they take their life, it doesn't mean they don't love their family and friends. Hope this helps.

One of the most beautiful ballads ever, let alone from a damn metal band. And also this version shows James’ growth as a vocalist. On the original recording he wasn’t used to singing this softly so they actually had a synth track for him to match the tone to. I believe it’s actually on the album recording but too faint to hear without separating the tracks.
