It took a few spins, but I love it now. It might not be thrashy, but at this stage in their career they don’t need to do that. They’re doing what they want and are sticking the landing. I’m thoroughly impressed and can’t wait for the album to drop.

Jaymz has a history of using song titles as lyrics he uses the line Fade to Black in the Memory Remains . I'm hearing this song for the first time today , very happy to already have your reaction I love the concept of the album it does have an old school vibe, but that goes with the 72 seasons title that's the first 18 years "right about the time Metallica formed in 83. and they are paying homage to the sounds that inspired them .

There is a reason why Metallica is considered the foremost band in metal...because they evolved. A lot of "original" fans (and I am an original fan...yes, I'm that old, lol) just didn't (evolve). I hear some of the chugginess of their original sound, but I also hear elements from their Load and Reload period in this. It feels like an amalgamation of many of their sounds over the years, almost like they have found a groove. I'm loving it. They are timeless, and continue to prove it. Quirk (Kirk) isn't quite as precise or nimble as he once was (and who is at that age? And I only say "that" instead of our because they are on average about 8-10 years older than me), but he still manages to shred an awesome solo that fits the material. They are playing within themselves, and still producing relatable material. As for Lars...look, I've heard all of the criticism and denigrating of his technical skill, but I've never bought into it. The drums don't lead the song...they only drive it. In Metallica's music, the guitars and the lyrics have always taken the lead, and the drums and bass are an essential accompinent. They have an important role to play, but they aren't center-stage. They stay within their lane and don't try to upstage what the band wants you to hear. In that, I have always felt Lars has been perfectly suited to his role (musically), and can find no fault there.
@phadrus

I like that Metallica is incorporating older sounds from past album's on to new music that way Metallica fans of all ages can enjoy their music. Yes they are a long ways away from the thrash days of the 80's but they still rock.

Similar faces and reactions the first time my best friend and I listened to "...And Justice For All" cassette back in '88 when it came out. We proceeded to wear out and replace several of those....in short order over next 6 months on REPEAT (actually on constant play-and-flip...lol). U are very astute and picked up on the little nuggets of the song that would be only noticed by the seasoned Metallica fan. I am impressed!! Keep chuggin'!! Rock on!! Metallica.....AND u!!! 😃🤘🤘🤘

I think all bands should do whatever they want. The interesting thing about Metallica is that they are ever changing. You can hear them switching ideas up. I may not always like the result, but I love that they don't settle. I don't know if that's a product of just trying to be relevant, or if they are genuinely searching. I think it's a mix of both, with an emphasis on searching.

A great listening! I liked this one the most out of the 3. I mean, I wasn't a fan of the other 2 :) but I really appreciate the risks they took with this, and the fact that they paid off. Great lyrics, awesome chorus. Smooth transitions. The solo didn't change the tempo in preparation for a much wanted, "super thrash fun time"... but I don't think that thrashing would've added to the intention behind the song. So I'm very happy with it.

Wait a minute.... WHAT? Lars Ulrich's drumming on "Ride the Lightning" and "Master of Puppets" is among some of his best among the classic Metallica albums. And the drums on the infamous "Black Album" sound absolutely freaking amazing. Lars is an incredible drummer, and you can definitely hear that on the aforementioned records. I'll never understand why people have such a hate boner for the guy aside from the whole Napster thing and making Jason Newsted's bass parts inaudible on the final mix for the "...And Justice For All" album. Lars REALLY doesn't get the credit that he deserves for his accomplishments when it comes to arranging the songs and playing along to whatever James is playing on rhythm guitar which you hear a lot of on the albums I previously mentioned. Lars has even said himself that he didn't want to be like his contemporaries even though he did try his best to do so on the Justice album. I'll never understand why people give Lars so much shit while they are also too ignorant or don't want to acknowledge that if it wasn't for Lars as well as his determination to take a chance with coming up with his own band, and being influenced by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, there wouldn't be a Metallica, PERIOD! And, no, this song isn't a continuation of "The Unforgiven" trilogy. "The Unforgiven 3" from "Death Magnetic" was the last of those songs.

Lars an amazing drummer ?? which one are you smoking? He is a correct drummer and nothing more. Calling him "incredible" is insulting drummers like Dave Lombardo, Gene Hoglan and Nick Menza (may he rest in peace), who are incredible and from the same generation.

@TokusatsuGamingfan Жыл бұрын
@@evil_chuck He is an incredible drummer because he's unique. It's my opinion. Don't like it? too bad. And like I already said, he tried to be on the same level like his contemporaries around the Justice album, or you must have missed that part. And Lars isn't "a correct drummer" like you are claiming.

Vicious and dark and heavy, this is awesome to me. THIS sounds like Metallica to me. The first two songs were good, but poppy and CATCHY. This is back to And Justice For All heaviness. Enemy of God by the German band Kreator is a song you should listen to. It smacks you in the face right out of the gate, and never stops. The official music video is the best one to watch. They formed in 1982, give them a try.
