It's like u Wana scream don't go to Europe!!!! Also, in the BTM 98 they cut Ross halfin off we hear him say "lars took over from them on"...they left out what he said before that he said. "Cliff ran that band, absolutely nothing happened without his approval first...I don't think people realized just how important he was" Also I think there was on of the fan cans that had complete interviews and that back in the day. Anyhow it's sad cliff was looking forward to Japan too. But in other interviews I have somewhere he's like in 1987 were gonna start recording...which is sad cause he never saw that year. WOW, this is like a time warp, like Cliff never left. Seeing him so casual and happy like the rest of them, is so surreal. I agree with others, when the band talks about being in Europe, after August, and Cliff saying they will continue to tour into '87. It was also emotional when the crew guy said that Cliff was the oldest, at 23....24 was simply not his number. Regardless, this is pure gold. (Lars being asked), "What impact do you think you'll have on the future of heavy metal?" Oh, just become the biggest metal band the world's ever known.
@kenworthNH6 жыл бұрын
Cliff did precious few interviews in his short time with us. This is probably the best one in existence. There was a decent audio only one he did on the radio back in '84 but nothing as interesting as this. It is surreal. All these years I was curious to know more about the guy. The definition of tragedy.

Interviewer: "Quote: Metallica have sold out. What's your response to something like that?" James: "We're not too worried about them" Cliff: "We do what we wanna do, you know. If they consider that selling out, then whatever". James: "There's a lot of people that think you sold just 'cos you're on a major label and are very popular" Cliff: "Or maybe you don't play a thousand miles an hour the whole time" James: "We'd be doing the same thing if we were still on an independent label" This was in 1986. Cliff is still alive... They were considered sellouts at this point already because they were doing something different... Then a lot pf people called them sellouts when they did the musicvideo for One.... and when they made The Black Album.... and when they made Load... etc... It's never been easy being Metallica. First they had to build a following and make an album. Then they made a second album and were called sellouts because of Fade to Black... A lot of metal fans really don't like their music evolving... Haters gotta hate, I guess :p

It was bands Metallica grew up on. When they adapted , as others bands, that mindset in their own : Sell out ! Its like thrash metal fans are amnesic. It still like this in many ways . Its crazy

MY METALLICA STORY: When James mentions in the video that they are going to Texas in June since ozzy had left to Japan, it brings me back to when I was in 8th grade and Metallica was coming to South Texas to play at the Villarreal Convention Center in McAllen Tx. I was supposed to go with my cousin but my mom didn't let me go. I was only 14 years old. He ended up going and got a green guitar pick. Not only did he get a guitar pick, but he got to witness by far one of the most Historical Heavy Metal Bands of all time in its purest, and rawness as it gets. And to this date, they take me back to those teenage years of "what ifs" and "almost" possibilities. Then months later, the tragic death of Mr. Cliff Burton comes out on MTv news. I was like, NO!!!!! They were so close to home two months earlier and I had a chance to see them. Then in 1989, with the injustice for all tour, I had another chance to see them in the summer in Florida. My brother was going to see them somewhere in Tampa Bay and he told me if you get here earlier, ill take you. Well, I got there a week late and all he had for me were the memories recorded in a Walkman that he snucked in. Then as I am coming back on the greyhound bus, as we pass Houston Tx, I see on the Houston Rocket's The Summit Arena that Metallica was playing the next night. I just looked at that marquee through my bus window until that opportunity faded. Finally, Im out of high school and im going to college my first semester when the Black album came out. I remember being in class, and this guy next to me was listening to Metallica in his portable CD player. So we start talking about the new album and out of nowhere he pulls out 2 tickets to see Metallica in Corpus Christi Tx. Now, Corpus is about 2 1/2 to 3 hrs from Brownsville Tx. Not far, but too far for me when I don't even have a vehicle to drive. I went to school in a bicycle for my first 2 years. So yes, another opportunity passed me by. So years pass, I graduate from college, get a job in 98, buy a car and Metallica is headlining the lollapalooza tour. I had a coworker at the time that ended up going to see them and I didn't know that she liked them. She comes back and tells me guess where my husband and I went this past weekend? I was like, I don't know. She said, we went to go see Metallica at the Retama Park in San Antonio Tx. I almost choked her. LOL. So, im almost hitting 30 and I still haven't seen my favorite band Metallica. Opportunity knocks once again in 2000 as Metallica announces a summer tour called Sanitarium. Boom! I buy my ticket for the Dallas show at Texas stadium in Dallas Tx. I think it was Kid Rock, Korn, System of a Down, etc... This time I buy a round trip ticket from Harlingen Tx to Dallas and back to Harlingen airport the next day. I was set! Then, out of nowhere, I get selected as a 12th member juror in a civil case that lasted ALL summer long. Yes, everyday I had to report to jury duty for $7 a day. It was a BIG case with lots of history in our home town. Anyway, the dilemma was that the concert was on Sunday and I had to be back early Monday for jury. Well, luck was in my favor this time cause the presiding judge gave us a whole week to enjoy our summer and it just so happened it was that Monday following the Sunday night concert. I was ready! So here comes the weekend and its Saturday already. My flight left Sunday morning. I was out that night and got home like around 3 in the morning. I couldn't sleep of excitement that finally I was going to see my BAND. I wake up to like 2 different alarms. I wasn't about to miss my flight due to oversleeping. Luggage check, concert ticket check, airline ticket check. I get on my mustang and head out to the highway. As I am driving, I start thinking about the flight. Yes, to this point I hadn't been on a plane since I was like 14 years old. I was 29. So, the 1st couple of miles into my journey to the airport, FEAR of flying kicks in out of nowhere and it lingers in my head. So I do the unthinkable and exit the highway and head home with a SADNESS but a relief that I was no longer going to fly. It was about $500 value of flight and concert ticket. But wait! I find out that James didn't play that night due to an illness, and that Metallica was going to make up that show when James got better. So now, I have a flight ticket and concert ticket that i need to change for the rescheduled concert date. I choose the 2nd night show at the Dallas Mavericks Arena. I go to the airport and inquire about changing my unused ticket. I'll had to do was pay extra fees for changing it. While I am at the airport I am seeing all these planes land and take off and again FEAR kicks in and I just give up on the whole thing. I call it the "The Thing Shouldn't be" or The thing that didn't happen. Then months later, Jason Newsted quits Metallica. I was like NO!!!!!!!! years later I finally did see Metallica in the next Sanitarium Tour of 03 in Houston and Dallas Tx. Now it was Robert Trujillo as bassist. In 04, I bought tickets to see them in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Austin, and the best one in Lubbock Tx. Why Lubbock you ask? I entered the meet and greet to all 5 cities and won it for the Lubbock show. I got to meet all members, talked to them for a bit wanted to express admiration for when I was a young kid but i just couldn't. Too nervous as they approached me. Its unbelievable to see them right in front of you. Now, I try to see them when they come down to Texas. Haven't missed a Tour since then. Thank you for reading my COMMENT OR SHOULD I SAY MY METALLICA STORY.
