Metallica literally saved my life with this song. I listened to this track multiple times a day for weeks to give me the strength I needed to beat my meth addiction. As of writing this comment, I am 13 months and 10 days clean, holding a job, and working on buying my first house. I'm me again. I can only imagine where I'd be if I hadn't discovered this track and gotten the metaphorical kick in the balls it gave me. That opening is just incredible. I love when TV shows expose me to 'new' music that I otherwise wouldn't have listened to on my own. This is great.

I’m about to rant about how much I love this song. Everything comes together so well and Metallica truly is telling a story through their lyricism. Even down to the instrumental. The song is obviously narrated by the substance, towards the user. The most remarkable part to me is the bridge before that last “Master, Master” Sounds to me as if the person has now reached an overdose and is falling into the pits of death with that last scream. The tone of the guitars riffs guides you through the user going through the steps of a near death experience and as the music slowly progresses back up to the basic tune of the song as if the user is now coming back to life now trying to live without the drug and now going through a phase of rage. “Master, Master where’s the dreams that I’ve been after? Master, Master you promised only lies …” It’s just very interesting and impressive to see just how Metallica produced this song. This is good music. It really portrays the demonization of drugs and just how they can control you. Well done

I look at all the people in the 80's calling Rock and Metal "Satanic" and I laugh. Metallica is a brilliant example of this as most of their songs dig deep into sensitive topics, especially drugs which are romanticized and fetishized by other bands and artists. And considering that this is a song about how drugs are bad, and especially how it's not stupidly cringey unlike with D.A.R.E. or "Just say no" that never worked. This song gets it's point across and the people rejected it. Hell it could even work as an anti addiction PSA as well, it doesn't have to apply to drugs. I work for a casino in Canada, and while we didn't have a mass drug pandemic, we did have a gambling crisis in the 90's, specifically in my city of Winnipeg, suicide rates were awfully high especially in what was considered a small hick town so they mostly blamed it on Manitoba Lotteries Foundation (which is why they changed it to Manitoba Lotteries Corporation later on) and my dad would know what horrid things that gambling can do to people as he's worked at a casino for 30 years now.
