It's funny that you praise Lars because in the 80s and early 90s he WAS considered a kick-ass performer. Later, in the late 90s, and beyond, he's gotten a reputation for being "stock" and "lazy" but there is no denying, Lars in 1989... was a monster. P.S. "Battery" from that same 1989 show is shorter and even more intense.

He is? I mean he was OK, back in the day. But even James, before they founded Metallica didnt want to go into a band with Lars to begin with because he thought his drumming skills were mediocre. And at the moment Lars is absolutely terrible at drumming, most certainly not an inspiration. If you want inspiration then look at Slayer's' drummer.
@PiedPipers787 жыл бұрын
TheTwitchybird you're an idiot and have no clue what you're talking about! He isn't horrible and James absolutely wanted to be in a band with him. I'm almost always a fan of people reacting to studio versions (which sound exactly how the artist intended them to sound), while most people tend to react to live videos or music videos which are often radio edits, but in the case of this song, I'd say this is absolutely the definitive version. It's truly incredible, so full of energy! For me 80s Metallica were one of the few bands of all time that sounded even better live than in studio, which is why they're one of the GOAT. Great video! :)

Fellow musicians, her reaction to Lars'playing is genuine. She hears what the vast majority hear: A kickass metal drummer. Just because we hear the off beat fluffs and constant speeding-up and slowing-down doesn't mean Lars doesn't do the job he's paid to do. Can't help but like the guy. As a bassist I don't envy Trujillo's task of keeping the rhythm section tight, but I still love what Lars does. I've played with worse drummers.

So i know this was posted almost a year and a half ago and I'm way late to the party, but I just randomly stumbled across your channel. I have to say....I'm SO SO SO SO sorry that your introduction to this song was a live version. Like any other band, Metallica takes liberties when playing live, plus just the general noise of the show interferes. Honestly the best version of this song hands down will always be the original studio version. There's just so much subtlety that is utterly lost in the live performances. I'm sure you've already heard it a hundred times over by now, but I'd love to see a reaction to the album version of Master of Puppets! Keep doing you though, your reaction to Orion was amazing and so genuine and spot on!! (that's also one of my favorite Metallica songs)

Lars Ulrich was a great drummer during those years. Still is though but he started to become lazy in the later albums. He still is a great drummer when he wants to be. Their most recent album is actually very good, sounds like the old stuff. Metallica in the 1980s was very good and popular to the underground crowd, got noticed and crept into mainstream notice in the 1990s Lars rubs many people off the wrong way though especially when he got older. Pompous yet nice guy. But whiny. Especially after that Napster lawsuit BS about 20 years ago. You may not be old enuff to know or remember that. But it turned a lot of people off.

When I was really into Metallica around the time they released Garage Days I always thought it was weird how inferior Lars drumming was to Igor of Sepultura and Lombardo of Slayer and so many others. I can't deny early Metallica though. Their first four albums are so good.
