You can tell how hyped James was for this gig, as a musician I can totally relate to him. Being on stage as a teenager not giving a fuck bout anything but playing your stuff while people goes fucking nuts is a feeling completely unmatchable.

@david hefner you read my mind.. I find Kill Ride and Master to be incredibly amazing and depending on the mood I may choose Master as the pinnacle however the one that is hands down the king of Metallica albums has to be Kill em All. Ride the Lightning is simply amazing but I'm not the biggest fan of trapped under ice

Cliff Burton: Was way ahead of his time. Was the, by far, the most talented musician/song writer in Metallica history. Was THE EPITOME of a Metal head! Was the greatest head banger of all time. Was, arguably, the greatest Bassist in Heavy Metal history. Was why Metallica became so successful. Is loved and missed by millions of people.

Wow! Really? This is awesome I agree. But, they only got better after this. This is great in the way that it sounds very raw. But, their more recent preformances sound way tighter. And the music lessons they took after this showed in Ride the lighting and Puppets. I know you didn't say that this was their best. But, how is this better than the more recent verisons of their older songs?
@russkate88
@russkate88 7 жыл бұрын
They definitely got better as the 80's progressed as you can tell with all the albums that followed right up until The Black Album, but I feel these days they don't play their classic material to it's full potential. Some of the drumming is simplified with fills not being played properly and a lack of awareness of what should be done to bring out the full potential of a song. Whereas back here, everything they play has a near perfect studio representation while still capturing that live energy.

Metallica at their best in the pre-Black album Era. They were young and full of piss and vinegar, not trying to prove they were the best but just thrashing. RIP Cliff you're always going to be the bass king.

If you watch carefully, the present Hetfield resembles very much to that. I begin to suspect that in between (...and justice- black album) he took his image too seriously as the metal idol. We loved that.....Now he returned to be more loose again. We didn't know (at least me) that early period very well. Maybe things are not as they appear to be after all....
@russkate88
@russkate88 7 жыл бұрын
He went through many image changes but the inbetween period went from 1988 to 1997 with the hair being cut in 1995-96.

Why does no one talks about this V James is using? I remember that at the first time I saw this concert this guitar kept in my mind because of its particular look, the tape over the neck pickup, the color, it's so unusual for James, I'll make a replica of it someday
@Fishbulb77
@Fishbulb77 6 ай бұрын
They had this and one other non-Gibson V (maybe a Fernandes??), black with one pickup…I guess those two were the backup guitars to the Electra and Gibson. There’s a photo of Lars holding both of those guitars with Cliff off-camera holding a hammer to his head

To be sure "Kill'em All" didn't have one bad song on it. But 'Phantom Lord' in my book was the best song on the album and one of the greatest pure unrelenting Thrash Metal songs ever recorded. If aliens visited me and asked me what Thrash Metal is then 'Phantom Lord' is one of the first songs I would play for them. Metallica was in rare form when orchestrating this gem of a song. It's timeless. \mm/
