I dont understand this haters of Ulrich. He has never said that he is the best drummer. He plays to the music and has charisma more than the most drummers behind the kit. And how many drummers stand as a songwriter in almost a whole catalog in a band at this stature. Without his arrangements we surely didnt have all those iconic songs. And beside that he is the one that always take care of the business in the band. A great businessman, arranger and drummer for metallica. His drumming is unique from the beginning. Teqnichal abilitys is nothing if you dont know how to write, compose and serve a song.

@ryanford53873 жыл бұрын
He has a unique way of playing. You could hear a drum track from the studio and immediately recognise it as him playing. Even here some of the fills are weirdly placed in terms of timing and the fact he switches between half time, normal speed and double time instead of playing a traditional fill is pretty cool. He's plays to support a song - not his ego. There may be other better than him but he's by far the best for Metallica. He's the reason I play drums and I have the most fun playing Metallica songs.

@@_ProTrax A lot of people blindly do retro active concept of his abilities in the entire career. In the past years he had some lows due first and foremost to knees arthrisis, Bith shoulders rotations tore up since 1998, and lower back problems. He also fighted to stop cocaine. Its not just lack of practice. Doing tours and shows with 3h with that, you don't control your body everytime. That said there's shows in 2007, early 2008 where he murders it. Some where he s in trouble. By the way he seems to get through it since the last couple of years where he plays good.

I love lars style but in all honesty his playing is sloppy as hell and it only takes 5 years or so behind the kit to do what he does. Metal drumming has come so far the last few decades and dave lombardo was the man to push boundaries from where metal was in the 80s.

Of course if you hear it like this it’s gonna sound like ass. Lars for a period focused on being a technically a good drummer and even got lessons. He realized that the higher technical stuff did not make the songs better or benefited the band. Him focusing on showmanship, production, song writing, and letting the guitars and bass sign was more important. Also in sold out stadiums with a roaring crowd, no one is going to notice or care about or even hear technically hard rhythms. Jazz, African, Latin drummers while technically way better, faster, and play more complex shit don’t play with thrash metal guitars, trash metal bass in a sold out stadium with 20,000 people screaming. They would sound like shit or no one could hear what they were playing. Those drummers play in small clubs or in theaters.
