237 songs played over the 13 nights. 61 were covers. 176 originals 34 hours 33 minutes 38 seconds of music played. Pretty incredible. 🤯

Came to the comments to post this… thanks for doing it, I’m 2 years too late! But yeah, definitely not all covers, and they easily could have played all originals if they wanted. However a bunch of the songs they cover, might as well be their own at this point. Because the majority of the cover songs they actually play, have been apart of their catalog forever, and quite a few are done way better than the original

In 1998, in St Louis, I saw Metallica one night and the very next night I saw Phish at the same venue. Those were my first two concerts ever. It was a weird couple of days.

Phish has plenty of songs to play 13 nights of all originals. Also a lot of the covers they played are staples in their catalog. Songs that some people never even knew before they heard Phish playing them.

MetallicA announced a tour next year and they're doing it like Phish!! They're playing 2 nights each city but less cities, and they're not repeating a song either night!!

Phish and MetallicA are my 2 favorite bands ever. They both appeared on the Simpsons and I seen them both play multiple times.

My first 4 concerts I ever went to were all in 1994 1. Tool with the Flaming Lips opening 2. Lollapalooza with Tribe Called Quest, P Funk, L7, Beastie Boys, & Smashing Pumpkins 3. Metallica with Danzig & Suicidal Tendencies 4. Phish

If I didn’t discover Kill ‘em All in 1986 as a 4th, 5th grader, I never would have discovered Phish. All hail Metallica. Thanks for steering me towards Phish and all the other great music i listen to.

Seen Phish dozens of times. Went to one Metallica concert and left during the second set. I think Godsmack or somebody opened for them. It was aight. Huge stage was kinda cool in the middle of the floor. Got to see some cool songs like Blackened, Creeping Death, Battery, One, Welcome Home, Master of Puppets, etc. I love live music of all genres. And I know metal is supposed to hard, fast and loud but they were just way toooooo unbearably loud!

In Phish’s case it’s most of the same crowd paying to see them back to back times. With Metallica they are at different venues with different people expecting to hear songs from the new album every night. Apples and oranges.

I'm a huge Phish fan. Ironically I saw my first Metallica show in 1991 and my first Phish show in 1993. Metallica is a great band...

@@pm5906 Here they’re talking about how it would be a “nightmare” to play consecutive shows with no repeats. Then they did the same thing a year ago and touted it. I’m a huge Metallica fan. Going back to the 80’s.

They played a bunch of covers during BD. And cut that other number in half to about 300. And, trey says they have a list of about 125-150 that he gives to the band before a run to get on their radars.

I like how Trey not just plays, but largely improvises over 200 songs across 13 straight nights of music with no repeats, and yet he has set the bar so god damn high that he makes 2 or 3 small mistakes and his voice cracks once or twice and everyone is like "fell off, I miss the good ol' days". The man is the willy fucking wonka of jam music.

This is just too damn funny. METALLICA could not play 5 shows in a row without repeating to save there souls. Phish best band ever... no question. You want... rock, reggae, country, blue grass, pop, and whatever else. Phish can play pretty much anything hands down. By no means is METALLICA the Musicians that phish are. Peace > Love > Phish

Because Phish can do that and they can't. The difference is that Phish has no BIG HIT SINGLE CRAP, just a huge repertoire of songs. And for the Bakers Dozen run, they also introduced a lot of new songs too. They also got a banner hanging in the Garden to commemorate the run. Does Metallica have that? Phish is one of the greatest bands of all time. Thanx for posting this.

Take it easy. Metallica wasn't making fun of phish. Don't get so defensive about your misunderstanding of a conversation. Do you just go around making points and challenging everyone that mentions and discusses phish because you lack the ability to listen to grown adults praise a band for their accomplishments? Metallica even says that they can't do that and that anything more than two shows in a row would be a nightmare for them. Relax Broseph.

What do you think Metallica would think about a child molester playing bass on stage without a bass rig onstage? Or playing a bass with no fundamental root note? Not rock and roll at all....or is it?
