The AT-AP is one of the greatest and specialized walkers ever made, for both the Republic and Empire, and yet is so misunderstood and under utilized. See what role it plays in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars, comparing it to other Star Wars walkers like the AT-TE, AT-RT and AT-ST.

Regarding the Felucia clip from episode 3. The AT-APs weren't at the rear of the column, as we can see the front of another AT-OP behind them at the very start of the camera pan. Given the order of the column I'd argue they were actually positioned in the dead center. AT-TE in front, followed by AT-OP, the pair of AT-APs, another AT-OP, and presumably an AT-TE bringing up the rear. Armored columns typically don't end with an infantry vehicle, instead you put a fighting vehicle on the ends. Having the AT-APs in the center means they can support the entire column if needed. They stand above the rest of the vehicles they can provide fire support against any frontal attacks, and if the rear is attacked, they can turn around and do the same.

To be fair to Yoda and the other jedi generals I don't really think that beach was wide enough and open enough to really have the AT-APs be used as artillery pieces as it was pretty congested with trench lines, defensive positions four A6 Juggernauts, wookies and the like in that particular instance it might have had more sense to use the AT-APs up front so that they actually could shoot their targets. As opposed to having their firing lines blocked by friendly vehicles and infantry.

AT-AP top speed is a massive advantage for an artillery unit, it can move to a firing position lock its legs fire a few volleys of shells and be off out of harms way long before any retaliation is sent its way and because of its speed both in motion and in setting up it means a commander dosnt have to waste any manpower defending it something most artillery needs. Considering they are a standard army the republic forces are really good at gorilla tactics with lots of units that perfectly fit the role of fast attack and harassing the enemy forces from unexpected angles but that’s probably more to do with the mandalorian training programs.

ATAP is one of the best walkers, and chronically underated. Far better than the frankly mediocre ATTE. Don't get me wrong, the ATTE is a cool design and served the clones well enough, but its role should not be heavy armor for frontal assualts. The ATTE is a armored transport effective against infantry and light vehicles. While it has thick composite armor, the ATTE is too susceptible to even dwarf spider droids. This is because of that obnoxious cockpit and mid section. Not to mention the gunner to the mass driver is super exposed. The ATTE is a glorified APC/IFV that can kinda serve as an artillery piece. The ATAP on the other hand is a great design. While its not meant to be in the thick of it, it is a great defensive walker. For its role, it really has no real obnoxious design flaws. Its tall, maximizing that mass drivers direct fire range (much like the ATAT), its got no glass cockpit, has a blaster cannon effective against light infantry, and a medium laser cannon for faster moving vehicles or air speeders, but the gunner is exposed...if the ATAP is getting flanked, its not being used right.

some star wars weapons would be going through redesign if earth generals saw their travesty, this one, this one is fine, you walk up, you set up, you aim, you blast, paint it matching the surroundings and do something about the clinking glass noise when walking and there'd be no complaints.

So you dock the artillery piece, which should be several miles behind the front, for not having self-defense capability, which is a general trait of artillery in the first place? Given its size, the AV-7 would probably have a range of around 42 to 47 kilometers, meaning that under no circumstances should it be in a position where it would need some form of self defense weapon. As far as the AT-AP goes, it is unnecessarily tall, a common flaw with walkers. At almost 11 meters in height, concealment isn't a thing for it, making it highly vulnerable to dismounted infantry anti-tank teams as well as to enemy armor in hull-down positions or enemy aircraft. If there is a need for a vehicle to be able to traverse shields, then wheeled or tracked locomotion will be more reliable and faster as well as maintaining a more stable firing platform on the move. If simple speed is necessary, a repulsorlift is better, especially with its ability to cross water obstacles with ease.

yk what i need? an open world Clone Wars stylized style where you choose a career (rebel/imperial/bounty hunter/transport/pilot/etc) and choose a year where you climb the ranks and buy ships and you can exist in the interior and sleep with fleet mechanics and functional hangars etc. IK its real look at Star Citizen its right now in Alpha but given Disney´s resources and the sheer fan madness im sure it would work, they already got the fighter/open world mechanics at the palm of their hand plus they literally own the 3d models for ALL the ships so its pretty much half-way, and before anybody working in the videogame-industry says anything i myself am studying to enter the industry so i KNOW its more than possible, alltogether if it turns out to be real then let this comment be the *i knew it* cheese

Where do you put your Long range snipers at , on a flat beach at the front . @@sumukhvmrsat6347 except the actual sharpshooters were put in the trees as infantry. This thing is a heavy vehicle so I can't think that would work or be quick to set up. The juggernauts would indeed take frontline duty well, but I only remember seeing 1 maybe 2 in the scene which given the armour we see from the CIS isn't enough. I do completely agree falling back into the trees would have been a better idea but we also see a village is rather close, so while personally I and likely you would order an immediate evacuation given how good the Wookies would be at forest fighting I'm wondering if it couldn't be done for some reason. The old battlefront 2 had a critical fuel plant in the village, so while Lucas clearly thought more of the spectacle of it there is outside lore saying fallback was a poor option. Mostly I'm seeing a battle on a large open beach with little immediate cover and a vehicle that would have solid armour as well as support guns, so it may as well fight where it could offer shelter to some infantry. More juggernauts or some at-te tanks would have been much better but you use what you have when it comes crunch time.

@@sumukhvmrsat6347 lol, their use of animals shows the mid-size vehicle vacuum, this could be a good topic for this channel. Gaps in the factions' arsenals. Like the CIS needed a sturdier walking tank somewhere in their arsenal. I could see something like a cross between an MTT and an AAT with chunky legs, sort of shaped like a tick, with an armor plate and medium turrets on the front and troop storage in the back. Walk through a theater shield and deploy battle droids while laying down covering fire for them. CIS needed an answer to the AT-TE, and GAR needed an answer to the Hailfire droid and Trident Assault Ship.

They maybe good as artillery but I will always choose tracks and wheels over walking legs. In the battle of Axum in the fan story called Star Wars vs Warhammer 40k by AFanWithTooMuchTime the Imperium's limited garrison and special forces have been trashing thousands of them within the 15 hours of the fierce fighting and thousands of Jedi knights and over a hundred thousand clones are dead even when they stunned their logistics in the beginning by assassinating the High Command.

I think the problem is that ln the most planets in star wars legs are more effectiv then tracks and wheels

@@thorshammer7883 Aim a high explosive anti material round to a vehicles wheel and the thing will looste the wheel or be tracked either way the vehicle has to be abandoned. Walkers have the benefit of working in most terrains while still retaining a fair bit of speed. Tho hover tanks are still best imo

@@mikagrof9243 Wheels and tracks are harder to hit and provide better mobile speed and advantages that mutli leg vehicles suck at. It's why in real life no nation has ever bother making such things. And what if the engine powering your hover tank shuts down because of a emp or if the forces using a hover tank go against you? You have no mobility or protection. The Bolo Tank is better then those and it's a sci fi tank with tracks.

Would be great for the rebellion to get ahold of some of these and use them as tank destroyers , baiting out imperial walkers into a killing field with these along the tree line would give them a run for there money for sure

An absolutely amazing walker. If only the Rebels had these more, they could do some serious damage with these bad boys. The Rebels would certainly use these artillery sniper tanks much better than the Republic.
