Traditional hard rock and heavy metal is the best, and rock n roll at its purest. So on a related note, the only good “alternative rock” music was the Seattle grunge bands because they were influenced by it. Most alternative music sucks, usually the bands not influenced by hard rock or heavy metal, and there’s a lot of em. It all comes full circle though, which is why classic rock always comes back, and glam metal hair bands, if you wanna call em that, are part of that era, whether people like it or not.

It's not old, it's just that Eddie Trunk can't stop talking about how marginalized 80s hard rock is and how bad "hair metal" got destroyed in the 90s. Eddie practically goes out of his way to mention it almost every other show LOL

The Hair phrase is indirectly referring to the lack of quality of the music of some of those bands. Not necessarily a prejudgment of their music because of looks. Lyrically and musically the output was sub standard but gained popularity anyway because of Mtv. At the end they fail to gain a real fanbase and when Mtv went away they went with it.

If the bands had dressed differently back in the 80s it probably wouldn't have as big an impact as it did. The look was part of the music. For the people who don't take the music seriously really weren't fans of the genre anyway.

I showed my friends Motley Crue in middle school (I’m a sophomore now) and they thought they were girls. When I tried to explain to them why Mötley was cool, they just walked a way and were just weirded out.

When I look at Bon Jovi now, I can't get over how far removed he and the rest of band are from their roots. I get it, they were more of a pop metal band when they started. These days, J. Bon Jovi looks nothing like a Rock star, even the music changed. Like them or not during the 80's they had catchy songs but then something happened. Some people might say it's not about the image but if Poison or KISS starting dressing like Weezer, cut their hair, and dressed like your grandfather wearing khakis on stage I pretty sure those bands would cease to exist.

Something happened? Lmao....you don't stay 23 forever, for one thing. Also, trends change. The great thing about music IS the change. Plus with cock rock, the oversaturation just buried the genre. Completely. When you have 3rd tier generic bands all over MTV, its the death knell. But back to your original statement.....EVERYONE GOT OLD, MY FRIEND 😉

@@beeemm2578 hang on a second, I think you're missing the point. Also, it seems like you're weren't a fan of 80s rock to begin with. Let's be a little more clear, take a look at Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, Kiss or Iron Maiden and tell me how old they got and how short their hair ought to be. While you're at it you might as well tell me how Nirvana killed the 80s bands, I realize everyone has a birthday every year but JBJ took it to a different level, that's all.

I do agree with you here. I am a huge early Bon Jovi fan. Runaway, 7800 degrees F, Slippery, and New Jersey are all phenomenal albums but after that, they lightened up and lost their edge for me. The band's current stuff is so far disconnected from the band's roots so as to be unrecognizable. I do understand bandmates get older and times change, but Bon Jovi really softened up as a whole. If we look at the heavy solo stuff that Mick Mars has recently put outor stuff Zakk Wylde continued to put out or Extreme has, then those are bands who have not completely abandoned their roots. Lenny Kravitz has had as long of a career as Bon Jovi, but he continues to put out solid music.

@@komoru how about bands like Judas Priest who has never lost their edge? They seem to be getting heavier, there's plenty of other bands from the heyday that have stayed true to their roots as well. JBJ, not so much...

Glam Metal does not exist. It was a label made up by the press to describe bands who looked a certain way. Many bands were just melodic rock/aor bands (Bon Jovi, Europe), others were classic hard rock bands with 80's production (Cinderella, Mr Big), and Poison was actually a power pop band in the style of Cheap Trick.

"Hair metal" does not exist. Hair is not an instrument nor a sound, it is a body part. A music genre is based on the singing, lyrics, themes, emotion, and the instruments used-not by the outfits nor where the band is from. Saying otherwise is like saying "short hair metal", "jacket metal", "jean rock", "T-shirt rock", "Seattle rock", and "San Francisco rock" exist-they don't. This coming from someone whose long hair is almost on par with Japanese cartoon girls.

If newer bands are going to try to have an 80s style and sound then they have to ditch the crappier elements from those genres.

Geeks got sick of the beautiful getting all the ass, the industry conspired for nerds to be cool. And people were lazy and couldn't do the roadie work, and the superhuman abilities musicians had soloing and showmanship were so envied it was sabotaged, fick who did this and turned their backs
