It's fun to see Shad's call answered so quickly. Your intentional decision to show poor form with your shield in some of these demonstrations, which you suggest could illustrate the user presenting openings to an opponent, could be used by a developer who wants to animate differences between skilled and unskilled shield users. That's similar to Shad's suggestion that a developer could use overswinging attack animations to differentiate between skilled and unskilled swordsmanship. The variety of moves and forms that game developers could animate is certainly more limited by their budgets than by the variety of moves and forms in the real world. Thanks for offering your ideas!

Great video! Very well explained and the technique variety seems very interesting and cool. I can definitely imagine some of these moves in a video game 👏🏻

Chuckling a bit about the text under the coat of arms in the beginning, where there is written: "Früchte nicht die Dunkelheit" meaning "Fruits not the darkness" :D Guess it should mean:"Fürchte (the r after the ü) nicht die Dunkelheit" "Don't fear the darkness"😄

Found you by the hashtag from Shad's channel. Thankyou for your content! Edit: Also, as someone that is designing a tabletop RPG right now I found your demonstration really helpful for seeing some movements that I hadn't before. Specifically with the buckler and sword.

I agree with your parrying comment. It is hard to actively parry with a bigger shield as it is less nimble and has more coverage, therefore it is less effective to commit to an active defense. The advantage, however, is that there is less effort required to protect yourself due to a bigger coverage. The lack of a boss as well makes it risky against armor piercing weapons. Good job on the halfswording moveset with shields, never thought of that until now.

The compromise I might make for active blocking is to have the shield move around a bit and have block frames That way you can attempt to time things to guard or you can accidentally guard but with less consistentency

Hola Mexican Conquistador, great video and some really great combos! I love your points about the shield being almost impossible to get past if it is used properly, it really is! So having animations 'falter' to give openings is a great idea. And I love the idea of having an active and passive use for a shield, it makes in game combat that much more dynamic.

Hey great vid I'm coming over from shads and I agree about the passive and active blocking thing tho my idea is more of if you equip a shield then you passive block head or so damage from light attacks or something and have to active block heavy or to neutralize light attacks or something like that

I think Shad visualizes 'Active Block' as just a parry; whereas the video game part of my brain considers a parry to be something that diverts the enemy blade and opens them up to an attack (like a debuff or stun), instead of specifically prevents the enemy attacking during certain frames of animation.

Hello, just wanted to point out a typo in the German text on your logo. The first word is "Früchte" which means fruits, but I am quite sure you wanted it to say "Fürchte".

I may not get the quote, but as a german i think your coat of arms house quote is slightly wrong. should it not be "Fürchte nicht die Dunkelheit" (= fear not the darkness) instead "Früchte nicht die dunkelheit" (=fruits not the darkness)? Just saying ^^
