Mexico - Calakmul - Would you drive 62km into the Jungle on this road?

Many people report that the 62 Km ride from Federal Highway 186 through the heart of the jungle to reach the Ruins of Calakmul is nothing but a dirt road filled with pot holes making it virtually impossible to reach. Jeanne and I decided to try it anyway with our Nissan March Economy Class rent-a-car that is the furthest thing from an off road vehicle. Instead of bringing you a 1 hour plus video of the ride in through the jungle we decided to film a Hyper-lapse which will be about 9 min. After watching this you can make a rational decision whether it is feasible or not to drive in yourself or whether you should hire a guide.
Warning - this is a Hyper-lapse so if your sensitive to motion sickness you might want to sit this one out.

I was there a couple of weeks ago - construction traffic for the ecological disaster known as the "Tren Maya" has wrecked the first 40KM of road (not so much fun trailing behind a massive Kenworth). When you reach the jungle building site, there's a new section of road being built so you have to keep hopping up earth ramps onto the narrow completed portion. There's also a whole range of red flag stops - budget at least 2 hours for the 60KM at the moment plus time with a chiropractor when you get home.

Thank you for sharing the update here. This kind of sharing is very helpful for people trying to decide to go or not. We were very glad we went - it was so quiet at that time.
