This story is so inspirational. This is exactly why I am seeking a career change to documentary filmmaking. There are people whose stories need to be told. Thank you for this.

I find it humbling you can be so open and honest about your experiences. I've always done my best to be humble and sympathetic, but this is another level. Thanks for this.

3:50 This is SUCH AN IMPORTANT point. Honestly, I’m so scared of the part of me taking over that just wants to get great shots/footage. This is even true for my wedding photography. I haven’t gotten into documentary work yet, but the ethical questions have popped into my mind a few times. It takes loads of empathy to be a good journalist, but it takes neutrality to be a good journalist. Oof, complexity...

I love all your videos Luc. Thank you for taking the time to craft them all. I laughed so hard when you were super tired, laughing sitting at the desk with trash all over it. I love seeing that authenticity. I just watched an episode of The Trade and they were chasing the Beast. Super emotional story. I love this deep insight into the world of documentary filmmaking you provide. It isn't found anywhere else. I love hearing about your experiences and how its shaped you as a human, about things you regret and learned from. Thanks again man and look forward to seeing the doc you are working on.

Great story. Have worked with immigrants too as a filmmaker in Greece. Sometimes is hard to keep shooting when you see so much pain around you. Stay safe.

I remember watching this years ago. Thinking how amazing this experience was for a videographer, but also harrowing. Happy to learn it was you and your team. You are definitely one of the best to tackle this subject!

Thanks for putting it in perspective Luc. You've been a mentor for this feature documentary I've been working on about Ukraine since last June. I feel I owe you at least a big THANK YOU for the fast track I feel I've been put on. Also grateful that you encouraged me to invest in myself (rather than another lens) and go for an AoD membership.

As a young film maker, I shot short stories for a non profit in Uganda and I can say that I have seen and experienced first hand the things you mention in this video. Many times as film makers we are focused on the story and end up treating people as mere subjects. Thank you for sharing this story!

Migrantes Valientes. I just spoke with some migrants from that caravan yesterday. 1 family was just released from ice and into the states last week. Your video is what went me to Mexico city to the caravan. trump and that stupid watchlist the government made is what made that job turn into my life for the last few years. I have years of footage now, but no funding to make the film.

Yeah the media bubble is weird and it's definitely strange when it burst. You feel like you're this detached observer and then all of a sudden things get real and you realize you were never really safe. I think for me that realization came during the Furgeson protest, one moment you're news media covering what's happening then the next you're getting gassed by police and having protesters threatening you for having a camera, suddenly you realize the bubble is an island you could easily die on.
