In this video, the MEXT scholarship application process for the University Track was explained detailedly based on my experience as a MEXT scholar via this track.
For those who couldn’t meet the dateline for the Embassy track, worry not as you still have the opportunity to come study in Japan via the University Recommendation track of the Mext Scholarship.

"Applicants who have passed the First Screening shall directly contact the Japanese universities they wish to enter after the notification of the First Screening results by Friday, August 9, 2024 (Japan time) in order to request the issuance of letters of provisional acceptance as a regular or a non-regular student in graduate school. Applicants should be aware the following notes." other sub notes two of them are the following : "- A contact with universities requesting issuance of a letter of provisional acceptance made on Saturday, August 10, 2024 or after is not permitted. - Since the above “Friday, August 9, 2024 is not the deadline for the universities to issue a letter of provisional acceptance, applicants must not urge the universities for the issuance. However, applicants may confirm with the university if the scheduled time of the issuance is delayed. In addition, applicants should keep it in mind when scheduling request letters of provisional acceptance that universities generally need one month to issue a letter of provisional acceptance. - Applicants should first contact the division of international student affairs at the university (not an academic advisor you wish to be supervised by) to request a letter of provisional acceptance. (MEXT WILL INFORM THE DIVISIONS OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENT AFFAIRS BEFOREHAND that applicants who have passed the first screening may contact them.) " I read these notes so many times and what I understood is that I should pass at least the first screening before applying to the universities and getting a provisional acceptance. BUT in the "placement preference application", there is a note that made me confused, which is "Do not fill in the name of any universities you have already been rejected." How would I know if I will get a rejection or not if I will apply to the universities after the first screening? Bear in mind that the scholarship was released in April and the deadline is May 2nd, 2024. The first screening will be conducted between May and July 2024. Sorry for all the reading that you have to do to answer my question but I have read the instruction so many times and can not get it. Also, I only have a few days to get my paper sorted, so I can not reach the embassy now and wait for their reply.

This is exactly what I have been longing to hear. God bless you. Embassy path didn't work out for me. Let me focus on University path. Please I have a question, can English Proficiency certificate go in place of TOEFL and IETS? I got a prof from Kumamoto University.

Thanks for the feedback. In regards to your question, most university in Japan wave IELTS/TOEFL if you have undertaken most of your studies in English. Just check with the admission office explaining your situation to them, I am quite sure it will be waved for you. A number of other students I guided submitted just English proficiency and it was accepted.

Thank you for your question. Depending on the program and the level. For example if it’s a master program in a science related field, first send emails to professors and get their approval into their labs & supervision. Once that’s done, you can proceed to submitting you application for admission.

Hello, When the university interviewed about research plan and asked how would you manage language barrier to collect data in Japan? How did you answer it, brother?

Hello, This question depends on you intend to carry out your research in Japan. For example if your in the field of humanities, your research must not be done in Japan. You can be in Japan and send out questionnaires to your home country or country of research for data collection. In a nutshell, data collection must not be in Japan and you could you secondary data from the internet to carry out your analysis. Hope this helps .

My degree is non technical degree , a generic degree in natural sciences. Iam very confused about what to do . And what to attach in email . Other than Motivational letter. I haven’t done any peojects thesis or any research work I want a regular degree program of masters at university in japan through mext scholarship. What should i write in email . I got first division in my bachelor degree my marks are very high. Many say that for a degree program of masters on mext there is nothing as such required?

My advice will be for you to come out with a research plan on what you intern to do as a master student in your prospective university and send together in the email. Additionally, It’s also advisable to choose a research theme that aligns with the professor you intern to supervise you.

If I get to understand you, it means you will be graduating next September 2024 for your bachelors right? If that’s the case, yes you can apply using your most recent transcripts.

Hello, I will advise you send your documents at least one week before the deadline. This shows some level of organization and time management from your path. But if you haven’t been able to gather all documents within the slated time, you can send what you have at hand and point out the missing documents.

Hello, From the little search I have done, I will suggest the following universities : -Waseda University -Tohoku University -Osaka University -University of Chiba -Nagoya University -Hokkaido University Could you please do some research on the above universities to see if the offer Astrophysics. Additionally the list isn’t exhaustive, you could do more search as there are other universities. All the best

Hello The first step to your application for masters program (is that’s your case) is to contact a professor and gets his/her approval for supervision. Once accepted, submitted admission application including the Mext scholarship application. So I will advice you get accepted by a professor first before applying. But some universities do not require you to must contact a professor, in that case you can proceed without contacting a professor. Hope this helps

Sure! Most universities offering Mext Scholarships under the university recommendation track open applications one year earlier. If you plan to apply, you need to check the website of your chosen university this year against next year application.

Hello, Before writing an email to professor make sure you have researched about the professor’s area of expertise and come up with a research proposal that is in line with what he/she is doing. In that way it becomes easy for the professor to relate with you and possibly accept you in his lab for supervision. Important things to include in email: -Your anticipated research theme -Attached a research proposal from the theme -Your current and past research works if you have. -why you want to join his/her lab. Those are some points to make mention.

Applications will be open for most universities in August and September against next year . So you still have a chance, to apply.

Hello Please submit a research plan which is in line with your intended program (master) of study. Your bachelor research must not necessarily be related to your masters but if you get the chance for interview, you need to convince them why you’re changing into your current master of choice. Hello! Congratulations 🎉 for been selected for the interviews. Some tips for preparation: 1. If you’re a post graduate student, please master your research proposal especially it’s methodology. 2. Speak with confidence during the interview ( this comes with adequate preparations) 3. Construct a good response to the question why you choose Japan & that specific Research topic you plan to undertake PS Let me know which program you were selected for In order to give more specific guidelines

Hello thank you for your comment. All documents you plan to submit must be certified by your School or the ministry of education. If you are a master student, a research proposal is one of the requirements to submit before getting admission and also a requirement for Mext scholarship. I hope this clarifies your doubt. Hello, Application for April/September 2024 into most Japanese universities will open from August till around October. Check the website of the university you are interested in.
