So I hemorrhage tested the shwacker 269.. 2.5 cut..Levi’s… 470 grain 15.1 foc 300fps, 29.5 draw, 72.7 lbs. at 7yards. Glued a wash cloth to a piece of cardboard to mimic hide/skin… 1 gallon jug behind. Shot a 2 inch mark up from the bottom of the jug. The broadhead did fully open on the exit of the jug. Took 2 minutes 52 seconds to drain water down to the 2 inch mark. Just didn’t open up a hole like I hoped on the test..I did kill a buck last year with this setup. Shot was 18yds. Quartering away.. heart shot but no exit due to hitting offset shoulder. Buck died in 25 yards though… little blood on ground but was full of blood in chest cavity upon gutting. Just wanted to share. Love your guys chats and content.. thank you! Greg Neace from KY.

Appreciate the arrow discussion, recovering Ashby/ranch fairy followers. Needed this info about 5 years ago. Accuracy trumps everything arrows do what they are supposed to when we hit what we are aiming at.

An idea for a fire side chat is why should you have a different arrow setup for different things for guy like me I have one arrow for everything

I'm a little late watching because of it being whitetail season in Northwest Indiana. I now have a greater respect for MFJJ than I already did. I too cannot stand Tom Brady. All because of the bullshit "Tuck Rule" call against the Raiders In 2001. I'm not sure who I would put in my GOAT category. I've always just done my own thing and never really studied archery until recently. And being able to sort of pick your brains of little tips and tricks is invaluable. Very much appreciated. Oh, and MFJJ, I started watching you on youtube before I even knew you had a shop. I'm also part of the 80% in the middle of the road of arrow weight. Shooting 469gr Hunter XT 340's with 15.13% FOC. Seems to be a sweet setup. 30 inch draw and about 60lbs draw weight.

Here is my proof of practice, 454g black eagle rampage with an expandable SEVR 100g broadhead. Complete pass thru on a 200 pound sow. Through ribs, double lung and heart. Walked 10 feet and died. Shot placement > heavy arrows.

After my haircut comment the other day I fully support the mullet. I keep my hair more jjs but if you let beard and everything run, then cut the mullet and lamb chops for an event or something would be gold. Just making jokes, still a fan of you guys

I think this is really cool conversation about Arrow weight versus speed versus penetration. Without having seen the video yet which I am about to go watch. I would be curious to know what the arrow speed at the target was and what the energy on impact is. Now I know you could do the math and figure it out. If you know the arrow speed and the weight of the arrow, you could easily figure out probably what the energy and impact is but I think if you had a load cell at the back of a gel target And the arrow hits the gel target the load cells should receive some of that energy on impact and that might give you some really cool data. Plus I do believe in what Joe Rogan has stated in episodes on his podcast from time to time which is the law of diminishing return. Which begs the question does a heavier arrow penetrate better at a closer target then it does a farther away target and vice versa for a light arrow? Without having done any of the actual research in this like fleshing it out. I have a pretty good idea of what the answer is, but I just think it would make for some good Contant.

Hey you guys you were asking for ideas, here's one I haven't seen anywhere, nocks and their importance for accuracy, I shoot cheap nocks because I go through a bunch of them shooting 3D and I've never noticed any big difference from the more expensive nocks but would love your input. You could group them at distance and account for fit on the string of course
@goldtip34

I wish someone would talk about the string and cable life through the bows and ease of string and cable swaps. Bowtech and Hoyt are very simple but some are not. Also the SS 34 has a hell of an angle on the cable post that eats servings. Just nice info for someone looking into new bows

That's just binary cam system versus split yokes. True three string cams are easy, but most people swap strings once every year or two, so it's not a big deal. That's like complaining how hard it is to mount a tire on the rim being a reason to buy one car over another. I'm sure someone has a legitimate reason but most don't.

Josh, you are the age where the lens in your eye loses the ability to accommodate. Magnifiers are in your future. Typically, those who see really well have to have help up close a bit sooner, sometime in the mid-forties. Don't despair, it comes with aging. Best wishes!

Both of you are confused as to why the heavier arrow dropped significantly more when the argument was made that a heavier arrow "should" store more energy and therefore drop less. You have to realize that objects ACCELERATE DOWNWARDS once dropped which means that the longer an object is in free fall the faster and faster it will travel in the direction of gravity. The heavier/slower arrow had a longer flight time than the faster arrows and therefore had more time to accelerate downwards before reaching the target. it's the same reason your pin gaps open up as you shoot further, it's due to longer flight time accelerating your arrow downward. simple experiment is to drop an object and measure how long it takes to drop from 0->1 foot. repeat for 2,3,4 feet and you will discover that the object is covering the distance from 3->4 feet way faster than it did from 0-> 1foot. that basic physics if give a little bit of thought. In addition to your argument about heavier/slower arrows not holding onto energy better. That data has already been discovered by a certain loony with a lab radar in Texas. if you can measure the velocity of an object as it travels down range and know the weight of that object you can calculate how much energy it has. also, not hard stuff. This is all very common knowledge in rifle ballistics but for some reason archers and rifleman don't seem to be using the same knowledge that has been known about for years in the rifle space. It has been very well established that using a heavy for caliber bullet vs a light for caliber bullet will carry energy more efficiently downrange than a lighter bullet. concepts are the same here. I am by no means a heavy arrow advocate because I believe shot placement is paramount. I am an aerospace engineer by day and avid archer and know there is a balance in everything but disregarding how physics works because a simple test of shooting a water jug AT POINT BLANK RANGE shows otherwise is not telling the full story. as we know for the most part. a compound bow essentially delivers the same amount of energy regardless of arrow weight (give or take a few % points) so to shoot an object at point blank range will results in the same amount of energy being transferred into the jugs and therefore the same distance of penetration. I would be super curious to have you try that test again but at a much further distance and so if there is more of a disparity in the data as the heavier arrow will have more energy stored at that distance. keep up the good work. like that chats but thought I would give you some food for though/conversation.
