MG Cyberster - A Detailed Walk-Around Review

In this video, I will share with you my close encounter with the new MG Cyberster! It was just released for sale in China at the end of last year, and it's yet to hit the global market. It is one of the first affordable EV roadsters in the world, and on paper, it's a very capable sportscar. I will dive into the details of this special roadster, and some of its capabilities and quirky features!

Nice presentation. I have a preorder in Thailand for an estimated mid-July delivery. I test drove the car at the recent Bangkok Motorshow but it was arranged in a large parking lot with cones. Not much of a test drive but it indeed feels premium and more of a "GT" car than a traditional Roadster. It appears that the roof and the mechanisms as well as the roll over hoops are sourced directly from BMW as they are the same as on the Z4. The basic platform is nearly identical to the MG4 X Power. I think that's a good thing as it somewhat proven and performs admirably. Price in Thailand is 2,499,000 baht. Thailand has around 1000 units pre-ordered. I worry a bit about the scissor doors and the reactive sensors. If parked too close to a car alongside it may be troublesome. A half opened conventional door you can squeeze in and out. A half opened scissor door needs much more than half for you to get in or out. MG showed a feature of moving the car in and out of a space with the remote control key fob. But the Thai product manager said this function will not feature in the cars shipped to Thailand. MG intends this car to be the "Halo brand" thus a lot of MG reputation is riding on its success. The fit and overall finish is impressive. I'm cautiously optimistic. I have a dual motor Tesla Model 3 so I'm not new to the EV segment. 😁

Thanks for sharing your experience! Congratulations on getting your pre-order, and hope you will receive your car very soon. When I did the walk-around, it seems that the build quality is very good, and having driven the MG4, I have confidence that MG will do a good job with this one. Hopefully I will get a chance to drive/review it when it comes to NZ 😄. BTW what color did you choose?

You should kick up a fuss about the remote move feature. In UK we need it parking spaces are small

1:26 Are these the official prices for New Zealand? Or only converted from chinese prices?

No, they are prices in China, just converted into NZD, it will be much more expensive these prices when they come to NZ, because of taxes etc.

im very courious to see how the doors act when you are flanked by 2 other cars in a tight parking spot at a supermarket in europe. might want to wait before preordering. shit show potential

The doors goes upward, so tbh it's probably better to get in and out in tight spaces compared to traditional doors

Haha, it's the "arrow" tail lights that ruined the looks of the rear, otherwise it's actually quite good looking imo 😀

If the quality and design are good, does it really matter where it is made?

@@sundaymorningdrives no exactly…IF the quality and design are good then no it doesn’t matter ….however having owned an Mg …If this car doesn’t improve on that in regards to quality then this car is going to be a nightmare to own.

@Trevelyan1971 good point, but I am merely saying that quality is not necessarily related to which country it's built, some of the current Chinese brands can make really high quality and upmarket cars, ie the Lotus Eletre. And on the other hand, some cars from VW, Ford, KIA, Hyundai, even the likes of BMW and Mercedes all have their own quality issues to a certain extent.
