Big Bell Ghost Town - Western Australia

Today the ruins of the big old hotel tell of a town that was once vibrant and full of life. Nearby sit the ruins of an old church but there is precious little else left of the town.
Mining towns have always had a precarious existence and Big Bell sits in the desert as a reminder of the fate of so many other towns that have long since vanished.

So many people stick to the coast and miss out on the fantastic places further inland. The shires tend to be far more welcoming too with great facilities for travellers.

@@WesternAustraliaNowAndThen We prefer inland and are going out to Kookynie to see the pub's horse and then back to Lake Ballard and around the area. We have put Kunanalling on the list too after seeing it on your videos. Thanks

This how archaeology happens. If you dig into the ground, you'll probably find a bunch of forgotten things hidden in the dirt. I'm guessing there are skeletons around the church, and bits of the golf course you could recreate. It could be very interesting if any of the buildings had a basement

The hotel had a cellar but it is filled with junk (and probably snakes) now.

I used to drive past this every 6 months or so when I was a sales rep going to mine sites. It never seemed quite real just appearing seemingly from nowhere. That was about 25 years ago and it was in a bit better condition. Thanks for the video.

Iv heard there were two of these hotels built One in Big Bell The other is the Como hotel

Yup, I heard the same thing. If it is true they were supposed to have been built from the same basic plan. Although looking at the overhead view of the Como it is quite a different shape but I guees it could have been modified. There is a similarity in the front profile.

@@nothere57 I have sent a message to Como Hotel to see if anyone there knows anything about the history of the place. Looking online is fairly inconclusive as nothing seems to confirm a connection between the two hotels.

So where was the actual mine?? Would’ve liked to see what else was there. Is the Railway still there?? Or is it just the hotel?? Still great vid. Thanks for posting 👍 Ahhhhh so I googled it and it may still be a going concern. No admittance KEEP OUT sort of deal…. 👍👌🤣. Cheers
