@@jayceooi i got the gen 1. picture is clear. But keep the problem that in the dark scenes of a movie, you see its dark and sometimes it will be more lighten and dark again. You had that 2? Like it's automaticly adjust the brightness...

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR PROVIDING A GOOD COMPARISON. it saved me, coz i planned to buy the gen 2 at full price since its newer. but after i watched your vid, i decided to buy the gen 1 instead, and at half the price of the gen2 (2nd hand). since they dont sell the gen1 in stores now.

Very important video - good content! I have gen 1 and like everybody else have the focusing issue. However, refocus once 5-10 minutes after start up (when the projector and plastic have warmed up) and everything is fine. Other than that, it is a really good projector!

Agree! And thanks! Gen 1 is still my best favourite all-round budget DLP projector for movie and games. Until its bigger twin brother dropped by - WEMAX Dice. Slightly expensive though. 😂

Muito obrigado, eu já havia comprado a versão 2, graças a você deu tempo de eu cancelar a compra, então comprei a versão 1, senti até um alivio porque meu sonho era esse projetor, e eu iria ficar muito decepcionado porque a diferença de imagem é enorme, obrigado Jayce.

@@jeffersonmartins6991 pode comprar sem medo, vale cada centavo, foco e cores perfeitas, o Android tv é muito fluido, e roda 4k liso, mesmo sendo 1080p. Até agora não apresentou sujeira na tela porque é blindado a parte óptica, o meu é versão 1.

Great comparison! The difference is noticeable, side by side. How do you know if you have a Gen 1 or Gen 2? How did you do a "custom color adjustment"? Why would a Gen 2 projector be worse than a Gen 1?

i like how you include that lagom color banding test on every projectors you test. it seems most other reviewers just all talks but you get deep into details. saved my wallet. currently looking for viewsonic px701hd or mi projector 2 pro. both 0.47 but px701hd is rgbw 3500ansi vs pro 2's rgb 1300ansi. viewing distance is 3.7m any thoughts?

Not sure about Viewsonic. But stay away from global version of Mi Projector 2 Pro. Same colours issue like v2. 😅

I was using gen 1 since 2021 and because of the four point keystone correction I bought a gen 2. I can confirm everything in this video is true unfortunately and I am really disappointed. I also can add one more item, autofocus of gen 2 is slightly worse than gen 1 as well. But four point keystone correction is a life saver for me, even though I have to do a fine tuning afterwards. Also I must say that the difference is not that much noticeable for average user if you don't have both gen 1 and gen 2.

Hi, was there any change of names for Gen1? I've seen some variations like Mi Smart Projector Mini, Xiaomi Mijia Youth Edition or else. Even in your purchase link for Gen1 there is written XIAOMI Mijia model SJL4014GL. Is this still Mi Smart Compact Projector 1 or is gen1 possible to get only from secend hand?

Hi Jayce, I play with retroarch emulators installed on the Mi Smart Compact Projector 1, I can't find game mode is it only on hdmi right? Can you tell me if there is another setting with lower input lag than the others please? Maybe you tested input lag for standard mode? I'm very curious to know the values even if not very useful since more slow. I'm very grateful for your attention.

Great Point, so we need to be alert because Gen 2 has less color than 1st and many will get 2nd because it is new..but lack the information that it isn't better. I hope developers solve it in an update. Thank you for bring us this valuable information and comparison. as always the best video ever.

Software update can. But you lose around 30% brightness. Just like what I did on Mijia Projector 2 Pro / WEMAX Vogue Pro.

Hi ! is it there a fix for the wifi issue on Gen1 ? Mine still is only recognizing 2.4 ghz networks not 5.0Ghz ! It is updated to the last OTA.

Change your wireless router 5 GHz channel range to below 50. Don't use 100 and above.

Hi Jayce, thanks for the great reviews! I bought the mi smart projector model m055mgn but it has less brightness than wewatch v70. I have both so I compared them. I think it might be an issue with the projector? v70 has 330 ansi and mi smart 500 so I don´t understand. What do you think? Thanks!

V70 has over contrast value out of the box. So it might have more brightness than Mi Projector. But V70 colours should be much much duller than Mi Projector.

@@jayceooi Thank you! I see the difference in colours but still the brightness is a tad low. I was expecting mi smart to be a lot more brighter given that in your videos mi smart looks really bright and also I read some other reviews commenting on how strong it was. I sent it for a revision to the official technical service since I think it might be a problem with the light and also had problems with the right side of the image being blurry. Maybe I need a screen? I'm projecting on a white wall.

@@estiferrari8198 Brightness is not everything. You can also increase Mi Projector brightness by increasing brightness and contrast. But you lose colour accuracy in that case. ALR screen helps. But also has its limitation...

Yes, it is possible on gen 1 since its launched. Just software update will do. It can do electronic vertical keystone, why can't horizontal as well?

Huh? I thought you bought YG650 + Mi TV Stick. You have more budget I guess... Anyway, gen 2 is not a bad projector. It is still better than a lot of other projectors out there. Just gen 1 is better.

@Nafiz Haqim you're not alone, even i am in the same situation 😊 since then I've seen this video I am regretting my decision. Thanks @Jayce Ooi for bringing up the reality it will help others from doing same mistake. Well gen2 is not bad either, since I have only 1 mi projector, picture quality is acceptable for me at this point though it doesn't seems as vivid as gen1 in the video.

Hey Jayce! Amazing concise video, that helped me made my buying decision. I managed to get my hands on a secondhand Mi Smart Compact Youth Edition 1 (so it's the chinese 1st gen, which has 0,33" DMD). Picture is great, and much better and brighter than my Wanbo T2 Max. Couple things that underwhelms me, though: 1. There is quite visible "crawling ants", most visible in dark areas. The T2 max didnt have this, do I have a faulty projector, or is this normal with DLP Projectors? 2. With the T2 max, if I set the EDID to HDMI 2.0, I can accept 4k60 signal from my Chromecast with Google TV. WIth the Smart Compact the highest I see in the settings is 4k30, and it defaulted to 1080p60. Your response would be greatly appreciated :)

Because it is newer. Gen 1 is old stock. Once finished, it's gone. No more... Yes, added 4-way keystone correction. But gen 1 also can if Xiaomi allow it. Just software patch. 😝

@@cesarmiranda2477 yes it does have that issue. The best solution is - after you get the focus (from auto mode), turn off the auto mode. But remember to keep room temperature below 25 deg C.

Hi Jayce! I'm from Singapore so can't buy banggoods mi smart compact. We have shopee and carousell here. Would it be wise to get the mi smart projector 2 pro for $988 or Mi smart compact for $549 Xiaomi smart projector 2 for $579. Previously I bought a projector from taobao for like $200 bucks. 1 and half years later it already has white and dark spots. I kind of want a projector that won't spoil easily. Any ideas? Thank you!

Gen 1 is pure DLP i guess. I can see good colour reproduction in V1.

Both are DLP. Just gen 2 uses smaller chips.

@@antoniosergiobezerra6936 On android OS, both global and China model are the same. But HDMI image quality is not exactly same as Android OS. Anyway, you still have find China Youth 1 model? It's should EOL long time ago...

Make noises to Xiaomi. Ask them to fix the colours and improve input lag.

This gen2 is piece of shit. I bought one and the focus is not good. It's blur even after focus is done. I'm going to send it back !

En resumen: Mi Smart Compact *Pros -Buena respuesta de fluidez en la imagen -Buena calibración en los colores de la imagen *Contras - Su sistema de ajuste de pantalla solo lo hace de forma trapezoidal, esto quiere decir que nunca te la va a poner recta a no ser de que pongas el proyecto en frente de la pared Mi Smart Projector 2 -Menor Respuesta de fluidez en imagen (Para los mas exigentes pueden que noten la diferencia pero para el resto pasa desapercibido al ojo humano) -Peor calibración en los colores de la imagen - Vas a poder poner el proyector en cualquier parte y siempre quedara recta la pantalla.
