In our Miami, Florida Most Dangerous Neighborhoods Tour, we visit with our dog Hudson, four different neighborhoods in the City of Miami, Opa-Locka, Liberty City, Brownsville and Little Haiti, all of which are considered dangerous (not tourist-friendly). In each of the neighborhoods, we explore places of historical significance and get a taste of the local culture, including visits to many food spots.

About JamesandKarla:
Hey everyone! We are husband-and-wife architectural/interior photographers based in NYC. We started our video channel to act an artistic intervention to help raise awareness of the importance of small independently-owned businesses and the unique character these shops add to the streets and neighborhoods of New York City.
In our videos we will showcase portraits of storefronts and shop owners in New York City & beyond and capture moments of city life that capture the spirit, energy and cultural diversity of individual neighborhoods. We also bring our dog, Hudson along whenever we can.
We made it our mission to thoroughly document unique 'mom-and-pop' stores when we began to notice the alarming rate at which they were disappearing. Our critically acclaimed books include “STORE FRONT: The Disappearing Face of New York”, “New York Nights”, “STORE FRONT II- A History Preserved” and “Broken Windows-Graffiti NYC”.
Come see the city & subscribe to our channel :)

I lived and grew up in Opa-locka 1958-1973. My Dad worked at the park for years which was full of lots of fun. Baseball, Football, field trips. ect. The court house had a fantastic library upstairs. Opa-locka was a great place to grow up and feel safe walking to school or just being with friends. Still have friends to this day from Opa-locka and we all have fond memories of the place we were raised up in. ❤

I lived in Opa Locka for 25 years, born and raised there, loved it. I never felt in danger going anywhere there, even when to school there. I moved about 15 minutes away from there but visit weekly because my parent's still live there right behind the train station. The City Hall was beautiful when it was being used.

Hey James, Karla & Hudson, You are such caring and kind people. Mother earth needs more acts of kindness to flourish our planet. Who could ever be so cruel and heartless to vandalize a cemetery, grave or tombstone. It is a peaceful final resting place but so very melancholy at the same time. 🥺😟😢. I appreciate your great work! I am glad to see someone go into Opa-Locka for once and show other cities in Dade County. I was born in Dade County and lived there into my 30s. Some of the buildings across the street from city hall one was a Tom Thumb convenience store and building next to it was a Grand Union super market in 70s. You also showed a small strip stores with a curved corner building. That was a five and dime store when i lived there . The airport was a military air base i think during WW2 their was also a blimp hanger there at the airport . A railroad track in came to the airport area near the blimp hanger side of the airport to warehouses where the military off loaded supplies. Part of the airport was also a park that Dade County government ran and had a pool and tennis courts. Also had basketball area and baseball fields. There was also old military barracks by the airport. Across from the Opa-Locka elementary was a bakery and Hess gas station. I used to live a 1060 Curtis Drive in the 70s. My parents old home looks very different now but it is still there.

I did notice you were at the Opa Locka Flea Market which looked deserted. Say it aint so! But I remember when i left about a decade ago the Flea Market was already on it's way out, I can not imagine it today except closed for good. Thanks again for this wonderful tour of my Home City of Miami!

Thank you so much Jose for the great feedback on our tour of some of the beautiful places but mostly not visited by tourists areas in Miami. The Opa-Livia flea market is still open but just is smaller in size versus years ago. We did not do a walk through as we had Hudson with us and since the aisles to walk through are narrow in places and many people are afraid of large dogs, we did not want to crowd them especially during the current climate. I applaud your open-mindedness to visit these areas of Miami and show the positive aspects of each. I think more people should have your mindset when visiting Miami. These areas can be helped a lot if they were visited as much as other areas. Miami is a very unique cultural city, with so much great black history/food/culture. I am white and live in little Haiti and wish I saw more white people like you visiting to come to our restaurants and get this experience. These areas are dangerous but can be helped greatly if there were more visitors of all races that came to see the greatness in each community.

We lived in Opa Locka Miami from 1956-1960. My dad was in Navy. It was all Navy families. My brother and I were born there and played outside in yard. It was very safe and friendly neighborhood back then. You didn't need lock doors at night. So what happened? Why is it now the most Dangerous City in US to live? Its not the Cubans! They are nice snd work hard! I can tell you in one word. "Blacks" when Navy base closed in early 1960s the good families moved away. The city became low income housing. Not a good plan look at it now! I wanted take my grandchildren back to see my home I was born at and lived my first 4 years. But No told its to dangerous to go there now! You would need a police escort and its still dangerous. Murder capital of US per capita. Such a shame. I remember it as a very safe beautiful place to live. We lived on Atlantic Ave across from the canal.

S F thank you so much for watching and sharing your memories of growing up in Opa Locka. So much has changed and although the neighborhood is labeled as dangerous, we have never had any issues while visiting during the daytime. We do hope you return to show your family.

i do not recommend to tourist opa-locka ' little haiti ' liberty city and allapattah so it's up to you to decide , the airport there is for flights to the keys' the bahamas and other counties of florida also for smaller planes like the famous cessna and fumigation planes .You have to be brave to go into a neighborhood like that and film 'something that those who live there don't like. my respect to you guys

Thank you so much Watanabe Watanabe. We really appreciate the wonderful feedback. We definitely enjoy taking the time to put together a video like this so that we can properly highlight the unique places and small businesses we visit. Many people are not comfortable appearing on a livestream as nothing can be edited but certainly feel more comfortable around a camera when it is recorded and able to be edited. Thank you again for watching and letting us know your thoughts. We really appreciate it as it helps us learn and grow.

The death of Mr. Mcduffie was horrible as were the Miami riots when innocent white people to include children were ripped out of their cars and beatened to death. The officer that hit Mr. Mcduffie in the head (fatal blow) was Cuban not white (not making excuses for any of them. They all should have been in prison). I was a child watching all of this. It was all too traumatizing. Growing up in Miami everyone I knew loved all colors of people. We all got along.
@JamesandKarla

Yes definitely a horrible thing to happen. We did research the specifics of the incident and case and the riots. We can’t imagine having gone through that time as a child ...certainly very traumatic. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your memories. Both James and I (Karla) grew up in diverse neighborhoods and we each learned to get along with everyone regardless of color, race or religion.

I will never forget this horrible event that took place in our history. I was 19 years old when Mr. Mcduffie was brutally murdered. I feel it was so unnecessary for these cops to act in such a barbaric behavior, when I all they had to do was issue him a citation or ticket. The juror should have found them guilty so that they would be sent to prison. May his soul rest in peace. 💐
