Just learned this the hard way. Got a nice lav mic, set up next to a solid wall and recorded an entire playthrough like that. Been polishing turds for a hundred hours now.

Nicely done man! You've done a good job breaking things down both professionally but in a way that would make sense to consumers.

I really appreciate this video! The information about blankets and other objects mostly absorbing specific frequencies is something I never considered

Dude! I literally had to pause the video half way in and comment that this was a great and well-informed video. Thank you very much for this. Wow. Good stuff 👏 👍

The part about "dynamic mics" smoothing over the audio was not true. That myth stems from people using them with low gain and closer. Move the dynamic farther away and increase the gain, you will hear the room in the same way.

very nice video. really on point and informative for less sound technician people. :) especially the live examples showing the exact problems I am experiencing. Now I have a better understanding of what to tackle for my sound treatment. thanks, subbed!

Love the video.I will be starting with your Podcasting Accelerator Course in a few day's. Hoping I can get my friend Clyde into podcasting. If that doesn't work ,I will do a weekly podcast from the Music Store. Best case would be to do both. Stay safe my friend.

this is gonna sound crazy but if you can get the audio from this vid [like using QuickTime to record you cpu audio output] put it in your daw on a track and put a plugin like mo-tt or some type of multi band comp or eq and mess round with the high mid and low it will really help you hear what's going on in each mic. you can maybe even through your norm Vox chain template on the track if you have on to show you how those mics would perform with your processing. it won't be spot on obviously because your not in his room but it can give u an idea. For me without that each recording in the vid sounds really similar excluding the obvious room reverb on the condenser mic.

Wow...I didn't know that there was so much more behind simply getting a "good mic"

That's why I tell people good mics sound bad. Generally better more expensive mics more accurately capture the room. And if your room sounds terrible, now you've got a super accurate representation of that bad sounding room!

I use the DT-770 pro headphones and the differences of sound in each room was so little I would never be able to guess where you are. I'm serious and very annoyed, I start to wonder if my ears are broken. :(

Hi. How about if I use a condenser mic in a big church or mosque, for example? Good atmosphere?

Hello Sir I want to record my poetry professionally at home. Which microphone should I buy? Dynamic or Condenser Mic? My room is not soundproof. Should I get a dynamic mic? If I record the same verse on both dynamic mic and condenser mic. After mixing and mastering, what would be the difference between the poetry recorded from both the mics? Will both be of the same quality? Will both have different quality? If the quality of condenser mic will be crisp. So can I make the poetry recorded with dynamic mic sound crisp? like condenser microphone? Please tell me such a mic and audio interface that I will not regret after buying. I am complete begginer. My budget is $350. I am very confused. I have added money in 4 years with a lot of hard work. I don't want my money to be wasted.
