Michael Finley quietly was one of the best scorers in the NBA for nearly a decade from the late 90s to the mid 2000s. Throughout his career, FInley went from star, to second option, to role player and even benchwarmer, but throughout it all never complained and just played his role. He was a player who didn't bring any baggage or drama to teams, and brought buckets to the court each night. His efficiency in his later years began to be a major issue, but during Michael FInley's prime he was one of the true Forgotten stars of his era .

Nice video on a very professional guy. The early 00s Dallas Mavericks reminds me of the mid 00s Phoenix Suns because like the early 00 Mavs teams, the mid 00s Suns teams didn't play mich defense but could definitely outscore you.

@@reilym979 I've always said to myself back in 1998-1999 lockout season if Eddie Jones would have had some of Mike Finley's ballhandles confidence under pressure getting to his spots 1on1 more so in the midrange area or if Mike Finley Himself was in Eddie Jones spot on L.A. then the coaching staff would have had made kobe wait 1more year to start or they would have move Finley to the SF 3spot because Finley was that solid of a 3level scorer and was strong in the post against smaller 2guards and 3s.

Seeing him on the Spurs was rough as a Mavs fan and Jason Terry taking a nut shot on him was still controversial even though Ginobli had injured Dirk with a cheap shot in a previous playoff series. Finley's been on the Mavs' staff for years now, you'll see him on the sidelines a lot, he's basically their assistant GM now

Great player for the Mavs during their emergence in the early 2000s. Moved to Dallas around that time and got to see the young Big 3 of Finley, Nash and Dirk. Always wondered what could’ve been if they kept that core together a little bit longer. When Mike ended up with Spurs and Dallas beat them in the 06 playoffs, it felt kind of bitter sweet…just for Dallas to lose to Wade and then he gets his ring the next year 😭😭😭

For sure, I feel like his drop in athleticism really contributed to his efficiency troubles later in his career. It seemed like he always took some low percentage, highly contested shots, but could get away with it but as he got older that drop in athleticism made it hard to get the same separation

If you keep at it, I am sure, you'll 100x your subs in a couple of months. Admittedly I dont know how the youtube algo works, but compared to other NBA channels and quality I dont see why yours should have 500k subs. Your thumbnails are actually also pretty dope, so that helps. I dont know if you know Coach Nik's channel, but he uses famous soundtracks and I think he said, there's a rule for using it, that makes it relatively cheap. Maybe if you check that, you can get to use some classics for the background (I'd use it wisely though, there are some channels out there that use way to loud music and way too much of it). That being said, some subtle lofi beats are always nice.

You gotta consider volume and 3pt attempts before calling a player inefficient.Players that shoot 40% FG on 10 or less attempts are fine because the difference between them shooting 50%+ is only one shot.Its all about the volume.
@jamalwalker
@jamalwalker Жыл бұрын
If you're shooting inefficiently on lower volume that means your inefficient. the fewer attempts you have the more efficient the shots you're supposed to be taking are if your shooting 40%fg and scoring 10 points that means you're an inefficient scorer. The only way volume fits is if you taking but also making a lot of shots Iverson and Westbrook are perfect examples of this they are inefficient but score in huge loads which levels their inefficiency

The 90's was the cant afford ur rookie star era 1989 : Kemp, Clifford Robinson, Tim Hardaway, Vlade Divac, Glen Rice, Sean Elliot all played with their drafted teams for 5-6 years to a decade + in Sean Elliots case. Kemp was close to a decade with Seattle with 8 seasons played as a Sonic. Glen Rice and Tim Hardaway got a cool 5-6 healthy or healthyish seasons in with their original franchises.. Clifford Robinson worked his way up from sixth man to starter and all star for Portland from 1990 & 1992 as a 7th and 6th man young gun off the bench. By 93 & 94 he was getting starter minutes until it was HIS team for a brief period between The Drexler era and the Rasheed Wallace eras....with Clifford playing alongside both Drexler and Rasheed at various points. Vlade was a long-time Laker used to trade for Kobe Bryant before 1996-97 & the arrival of SHAQ. Vlade played with Magic post Kareem, during the Worthy era post Magic, thru the Van Exel era, with Magic Johnson one more time in 95-96 pre the SHAQ era. So he got to be Magic's Center after Kareem and with Magic again for Magic's final season. Vlade was well acquainted with Los Angeles fans. 89-90 was a good and loyal and steady group. They all had bright 🌞😎 careers post their original team for another 4-5 years or more. Kemp an all star season in Cleveland along with another 20 ppg season after that all star year in 98. Clifford was a very very good Phoenix Sun for a minute with Jason Kidd and Penny Hardaway and Rex Chapman etc. Tim Hardaway flirted with a potential dynasty in Miami with Riley and Alonzo Mourning (Mourning is an important 90's type all star wait for the shift in consciousness with his draft class) but lost to the Knicks alot. Glen Rice was an All Star MVP in Charlotte and 3pt contest winner 🏆 and a champion in Los Angeles in 99-00 as a 3rd scorer for SHAQ & Kobe. Sean Elliot was so San Antonio hes like the original San Antonio guy other than the pillars David Robinson and Tim Duncan. Sean Elliot was traded for Rodman then came back like a loyal dog in 94-95 to play with Robinson and Rodman. Elliot played with Robinson and Cummings, Robinson and Rodman, Robinson and Duncan and hit the Memorial Day Miracle shot in May 1999... He was a consummate franchise player as it turned out. He only won 1 ring out of their 5 too. He was a foundational leg 🦵 of the journey. He helped set a pace. From 89-90 he helped rookie David Robinson lead San Antonio from 26 or whatever wins to 56 or whatever wins and then he missed the 96-97 season with Robinson and then helped Robinson and rookie Tim Duncan lead a 21 win team or whatever win 56 or 58 games or whatever in 97-98. I think 56-26 tied with Phoenix and Clifford Robinson and Jason Kidd in the West. 1990 : Derrick Coleman wins 90-91 rookie of the year, Gary Payton becomes an all time Sonics 🦔 legend and helps Shawn Kemp become one of the top dynamic duos of the 90's. Plays in Seattle from 1990-2003 when traded for Ray Allen and to Milwaukee before his 1,000th game in Seattle. About 12 full seasons in Seattle. Then he chased rings in Los Angeles and Miami with SHAQUILLE O'Neal riding the big Aristotle of the 90's mega star ⭐ into an NBA trophy 🏆. Elden Campbell was a long time Laker from about 91-99 when traded with Eddie Jones for Glen Rice. Antonio Davis a longtime Pacer then Raptor to help fortify Vince Carter's early experiences. Jayson Williams was a Net for life after a brief start with Charles Barkley's Sixers in 91 & 92. He didnt play a whole lot until 95-96 or 96-97 for New Jersey and then he missed the entire 99-2000 season only to be found guilty of murder or an accessory to murder in 2000. His career was then over. Ceballos was a very good scorer for Phoenix pre Barkley with Barkley, and a nice Laker between Worthy and SHAQ eras. Ceballos had pretty decent job security wherever he went. He could play without the ball, hustle, grind on defense and rebound and score 20 pts without dribbling. He was a guy players enjoyed finding under the basket for efficient assists per pass. Tyrone Hill was a good 6'8" PF/C. Long and heavy. Tyrone Hill was sorta like Ceballos. Valuable enough to play good minutes just not good enough to keep if you wanted a championship. He was valuable trade bait. He could help any team win and help you get the player you NEED to TRY to seal the deal 🤝 on a championship 🏆. 1991-92 rookies : Larry Johnson was the rookie of the year, Mutombo was also a rookie in 91-92 just one year pre SHAQ & Georgetown alumni teammate Alonzo Mourning entered the 90's NBA. Steve Smith was another quality all star drafted in 1991. Kenny Anderson and Terrell Brandon were also rookies in 91-92. All of these guys were like hired guns, valuable talents, dependable and could really costar for you. Larry Johnson was a 5 year pro with Charlotte and expected to help lead Charlotte against SHAQ's Orlando Magic in the ECFs a time or two or three, or four, or five or six. Or seven. But, LJ got hurt during a pivotal 93-94 season, missed enough chunk of games to watch Charlotte lose their 5th seed position in the East to the Reggie Miller Indiana Pacers. The Hornets started 93-94 5th favorite to win the NBA title. Ahead of Hakeem Olajuwon's Rockets, Pippen's Bulls and SHAQ's Magic. They wound up missing the playoffs. A year later they have 50 wins and 4th seed and Zo and LJ vs Pippen and Jordan with homecourt advantage against Chicago and their Longley, Wennington, Perdue three headed troll 🧌 unit. They LOSE !!!! They obviously werent as valuable a DUO as Penny and SHAQ vs Jordan and Pippen and Chicago and their three headed booger eating troll 🧌 unit. Alonzo was then traded for Glen Rice to Miami to be Riley's new Patrick Ewing. LJ stayed one more mediocre season in Charlotte. LJ did have tremendous successes in 5 seasons each for Charlotte and New York. He helped Charlotte win their first playoff series in team history. They were also the first of the four expansion teams of 89 & 90 (Miami, Minnesota, Orlando, Charlotte) to win a playoff series. Miami HeaT, were the first to make the postseason of these four teams in 91-92 (swept by 67-15 1992 Untoucha - BULLS.) And Miami has become the most successful of these franchises winning 3 NBA titles in 06, 12 & 13. Since 1989, Miami is one of the most successful franchises in modern NBA history. But Charlotte largely because of Alonzo Mourning and Larry Johnson were the first of these teams to win a playoff series and the first with realistic championship aspirations. Until SHAQ of course got Penny and then Horace in 94-95 then the Hornets were at the bottom of that hill. Orlando is the second most successful of these four teams since 1989 and been to two NBA Finals losing to Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol respectively. Theyve had some great talents like Penny, SHAQ, G. Hill, TMAC1 and Dwight Howard. The TWolves and Hornets have largely suffered in comparison and find it real difficult to keep their talents in Charlotte or Minnesota as well as their Franchises. Charlotte has proven a wonderful basketball 🏀 town, but they did originally move to New Orleans before substituting their Bobcats team back to the Hornets 🐝. LJ was their first star ⭐. He did good things. And helped the 90's Hornets sell alot of jerseys and starter jackets. 90's reggaeton wouldn't look the same without New Jersey Puerto Rican kids rocking high fades with Hornets jackets in Newark Noreasters. Head bobbing to Island reggae hip hop vibes. Me and my cuzins were Chicagoans like Michael Finley and though we all had Bulls gear ⚙️.. we had the Orlando Magic and Charlotte Hornets early gear as well as them New York, Chicago and the Sonics had to be the most popular NBA logos and colors and apparel. Oh also the Barkley era Suns jerseys and jackets. Barkley changed the game in 92-93. He was the mega star ⭐ relocating mid-prime..

LJ was also part of the 97 57-25 win Knicks team that had a legitimate shot at the 97 Bulls in the 97 ECF (but i mean the Knicks probably lose to Chicago so its almost better for New York fans to pretend 1997 would have been different than 89-96 vs Air Jordan despite the fact they couldn't even get past Alonzo Mourning and Tim Hardaway to get there !!!! And they were up 3-1 !!!!!) No pity. The 97 Knicks probably for sure give us Chicago and basketball 🏀 fans a better 97 ECF than the 4-1 bruising the Bulls gave Miami that postseason. And it would have added another chapter to the best rivalry of the 90's NBA. But its nice to have Alonzos flattop and fade on our BUCK trophy 🏆 wall... It fits in nicely next to Ewing and SHAQ in the 93 & 96 ECFs plaques. And of course the 98 Knicks beat a 98 #2 seed HeaT as a #7 seed and without Ewing and LJ basically made the series' biggest play by getting Alonzo ejected for Game 5 by fighting with ex teammate Larry Johnson in Game 4. And then LJ helped the 99 #8 seed Knicks go to the NBA Finals after upsets of Zos HeaT again and Reggie Miller's Pacers. And LJ hit the 4 point play Game 3 1999 ECF that made the Knicks run all the more believable and enchanted. LJ had a very very good career. He didnt become Barkley or Karl Malone going into the 2000's. He wasnt as good as long as Kemp. But he was a great role player slash 3rd scorer for New York from 97-2001 ish and that stint almost got him a ring.

MUTOMBO Mountain 🏔️🌄.. what can we say? Hes a popular all time player. He has the finger wag. Hes one of the greatest defensive players ever. Has the most or is tied for the most DPOY awards despite Hakeem Olajuwon having less while being a better defender than literally everybody who has ever played the game of basketball 🏀 ever and in any and all multi verses. He played 5 seasons for Denver. 5 seasons for Atlanta. 2 seasons in Philly and helped Allen Iverson challenge SHAQ and Kobe in the 2001 NBA Finals. But he and A.I. had limitations or and shortcomings. Mutombo became the franchise player for Denver but he could never carry the offense. Hes either the 6th or 7th best center of the 90's generation (arguably its greatest era for Centers!) And that depends on if you count Duncan and his two seasons with David Robinson in 98 & 99 as Center seasons and as more valuable than what MUTOMBO accomplished from 91-92 to 98-99 with Den & ATL. Mutombo became the franchise face of Denver post Alex English and Atlanta post Dominique Wilkins. Denver had some quality teams in the 80s and even challnged the best teams of the 80s a time or two or three in pivotal points during the trajectory of the decade. Mutombo quickly reestablished that success in 1992-93 and getting Denver back to respectability and competing for playoff spots. In 93-94, Denver made it in. Then Dikembe and Brian Williams, and Rauf and Pack and Rodney Rogers and Stith and whomever else wrote a classic. They disrupted a potential Sonics Rockets era defining 94 WCF. Then they conceivably were thought to challenge the West seriously after also taking Stockton and Malone, like Payton and Kenp to the tipping point. 6-6 vs Utah and Seattle during the 93-94 playoffs. They played two elite West franchises, two of the top 3 NBA franchises by win % during the regular season of the 90's from 89-90 to 1998-99. Best 90s franchises from 90-99 were 1 Chicago Bulls 2 Utah Jazz 3 Seattle Supersonics 4 Phoenix Suns 5 San Antonio Spurs 6 Portland Trailblazers 7 Los Angeles Lakers 8 New York Knicks 9 Houston Rockets 10 Atlanta Hawks And they almost took them both out.

Finley changed the culture before Dirk and nash and he was the heart of the team. Young dirk got zero respect for toughness and defense. That was Finley. They used to call young Dirk "Irk" because he had no D... Pause

Good player but was really a volume scorer. He had a nice outside shot though. Glad he got a chip, he was a good player who was about his team and never complained.

Finley was probably the unluckiest player in the NBA just behind Elgin Baylor. When Dallas started contending for a chip, they traded him away.

Finely was def. one of my favorite players to watch going back to the early 2000's. And that I think of it, he may be a top 5 mav of all-time. Dirk Luka Mark Aguirre Rolando Blackman Finely I think I have to take him narrowly over Nash, since Nash didn't really have his GREATEST years until he got to Phoenix (Or got back to Phoenix in 04) Edit: Completely forgot about J Kidd who's earliest pro years were with the Mavs SMH I think I might have to replace Finn with Kidd
