Part 5: • Michael Franzese: I Sa...
Part 3: • Michael Franzese on Hi...
Part 1: • Michael Franzese Expla...
--------
In this clip, Michael Franzese starts out by speaking about his new coaching business (app.michaelfra...), where he gives life and business advice to people in his "crew." He went on to speak about the mob launching a lot of casinos and hotels back in the day, and Michael believes things were a lot better when the mob was still controlling a lot of Vegas. When speaking about gambling, Michael explained that the addiction is more about the thrill of winning than the money, and he added that it's worse than any drug or alchohol addiction that he's seen. He also addressed Michael Jordan's well-known love of gambling, and he doesn't believe that Jordan has a gambling addiction. However, when it comes to Charles Barkley, he can't see how someone could lose $10 million at a table and not have an addiction. To hear more, including watching Jordan bet Horace Grant $5 on a table tennis game, hit the above clip.

This guy is a hustler, he knows how to make money. He didn't need to be in the mob to make money. Some people just have a talent for making money, regardless.

The Mob is governed off of money. It's policed by enforcers, enforcers don't last too long in any organized crime scenario because they are killers that need to be recycled. People like Franzese are like the Cousin that you know that came out of doing a 15 year stretch and somehow in 2 months he has a new car, an apartment/house and keeps going out of town. It's like they were BORN with that "talent". It doesn't make them any less dangerous if they are crossed, he's just a Survivor first.

Also the winner’s high(the dopamine rush to the brain when you win a bet) is also a physiological reason behind addiction.Lastly gambling is an example of a psychological learning schedule called “variable ratio”.In variable ratio you get a reward after a varied amount of behavior. Behaviors learned through variable ratio are the hardest to quit because of the reasoning “I’ll get lucky next time”.

I said the same thing after watching the documentary The Last Dance that Michael Jordan was not addicted to gambling. The excessive gambling Jordan had was his way of staying competitive when he wasn't playing basketball. It was his way of sustaining a competitive mindset.
@Matt-cr4vv
@Matt-cr4vv 9 ай бұрын
His gambling is excessive in the sense of he wagers on everything. But what MJ said about not having a gambling problem but rather a competition problem I thought was fair. It was seen that he had a problem because he’s wagered large sums but those sums are fine in the context of the money he always earned. But the thing that really drove that home was the part of the doc when will Perdue tells the story about how they’d never play blackjack in the back of the plane with him because the money they were betting was too much and so they’d play together in the front for $1 a hand. And he asked to play with them and Paxson asked him why the hell he’d want to play with them and he responds “because I want to be able to say I have your money in my pocket”. That really demonstrated to me that it was never a money thing for him it was the competitive fire for everything and that even if it was gonna be like $20 which is like toilet paper in his universe that the appeal was beating them even if it was low stakes. When somebody is worth multiple billons of dollars and has an income of around $250M+ every year the likelihood that their gambling will ever involve sums of money to actually matter in their financial world is extremely low so to see them continue to do so there has to be a different appeal.

Gambling is addictive due to the endorphin response when you strike a win. Especially when it’s a big win. Same concept is used in social media when your pictures or posts get likes. Causes people to constantly check their social media and get addicted to it. That’s part of the reason most people can’t put down their phones for too long. Same with gambling . The human psyche is not as complicated as some think, and those in power use it against us.

Gambling is an escape more than the thrill of winning or losing. You also need higher doses to keep enjoying it. I think it should be legal, but strictly controlled. If you make 2k a month, maybe they let you gamble 200 bucks and then you are done until next month. True, a guy earning 2k really has no business losing anything, but better to lose a small amount than have it uncontrolled and lose it all.

"Vegas was better when the mob ran things." Truer words have never been spoken! I started going at the tail end of when the mob still ran some of Vegas. My mother-in-law, she was going when they truly ran things. There's not one person I've ever spoke with that says that Vegas is better off now than back in the day. Vegas has turned into a dump, especially on Freemont Street. The mob never would have let that happen.

Gambling addiction is rampant amongst professional athletes. NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, makes no difference. Art Schlicter, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Pete Rose, Evander Kane, the list goes on and on.

I'm part of a streaming site, where we sadly deal with people who know nothing of the sport and spend...hundreds per month on online betting and 80% of the time they lose money, one particular guy nearly 3 years ago, after a long talk with him, he quit, just like that cold turkey, sometimes i see him and he places just a bet of...50 cents once a month or something like that, gambling is as dangerous as drugs or alcohol.

What addiction can you lose 1,000 plus in 5 seconds, you can’t do 1,000 worth of coke or dope in 5 seconds but you can gambling. I always say it’s the worst addiction from an economic standpoint butttt there are a very select few that are disciplined enough to win long term either betting on sports or playing blackjack
