In this clip, Michael Jai White discussed his friendship with Rick James and praised the late Buffalo native for how talented he was. Michael even revealed to Vlad that Rick James appeared in 'Life' with Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence. Michael said Rick was such a good actor no one even noticed it was him.
Michael Jai White also talked about Rick James' struggle with substance abuse and why he believes the attention Rick received as a result of the Chappelle Show ultimately killed him.

Man ive seen the movie like up to 20 times and I never knew he was in that movie. I guess background ppls are just as important as the main character, just gotta dind the details and easter eggs. When this movie came out in the movie theater, no one knew rick james was in it cause eddie and Martin stole the audience's eyeballs.

“He got that fame again.” Bish it killed him. That’s never a good thing. That was callus and disgusting. He was a human. A father. A friend. A cousin. A grandson. A brother all before and in front of being a performer. He died in his addiction and that causes so much unnecessary heartache, heartbreak and anger for his family. I’m disgusted by that thought process, “well at least he died being more popular again.” 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️😢😢😢😢😢😢

You are getting 2 different movies mixed up. Rick James was in Life with Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy. Harlem Nights, another Eddie Murphy movie, had Della Reese, Red Fox. Bernie Mac wasn't in neither movie.

How’d you read a whole book about Rick and then think “Tina Turner” when someone says he was performing with Teena? Teena Marie is a legend, and she and Rick were musical soulmates. Still sad about both deaths. RIP.
