What sums Jordan up is in the Last Dance doc he would gamble on the plane with Scottie etc in the 90's for thousands of dollars and take their money.. he would want to beat them and dominate them at gambling on cards, some of the role players who didn't have so much money would also be gambling for a few dollars at the back of the plane just for fun and Mike would come over and ask if he could join them, they would ask why he wants to play with them for barely any money and he replied because he wants them and himself to know hes walking around with their money in his pocket... lmao. The guy was just insanely competitive, incredibly skilled and talented and also a psychological beast.. that's why his name is used as an adjective to describe people who are the greatest ever in their field of work.

I actually think a lot of these people are able to compartmentalize their ego specifically towards what it is they do so well. I know a lot of wealthy and hugely successful people that are feared at their job and considered great, intimidating, and the best at what they do, and when they’re at their job they know it and play into it, but once they are home or around loved ones they become extremely down to earth, loving, sensitive, and humble. My dad was like this. Military officer considered the absolute best in his field. At work, he was “the bastard from (such and such),” but at home he was a teddy bear that loved life, his wife, children, and friends.

Yes his mindset lead to incredible success, and I'd imagine Genghis khan also had the same mindset of utter dominance, but this mindset does not help with building good character. @@aideethree3 well Genghis khan was an extreme example. But the idea here is that if you make everything a competition than that becomes your nature. Egotistical is a poor description of Jordan. Being super competitive is not the same as having an enhanced view of oneself. The dude knows how good he was and he earned it. He went into the league believing he was at the bottom. He left the league knowing he was at the top. To this day he won't publicly say he is the best ever.

@@chaosdweller It was Michael's hard work no doubt. It was not his job to come up with the most effective training drills. Jordan was also famously coachable. He adapted to systems like that of Dean Smith where he was basically a roleplayer and almost never allowed to be the leader. He adapted to Bobby Knight who would belittle every player. And then he adapted to the triangle which takes the ball out of his hands and gives it to his lesser teammates. All his coaches always said that he would listen to what the coach said, and then execute it perfectly, and while he would disagree, never got into an ego-competition with the coach. He willingly subordinated himself.
