Rick Moranis does a great comedy impression of the blue eyed soul singer of Yacht Rock fame. Don't ever lose the smooth. SCTV July 10 1981

Supposedly Michael McDonald accidentally saw this in a hotel room when it aired the first time. He has said that he was extremely stoned, and got totally confused and disturbed by what he was seeing-really thought it was himself. Wondered if he was having a “psychotic break.” That makes it even more classic

Rick Moranis had a thing for parodying Micheal MacDonald on SCTV. I thought this were hilarious and they still are. They filmed this around and I. The iTV studios in Edmonton. They even have the lobby shots…they did some odd micheal McDonald sketches on the Gary Todd show. Fantastic stuff.

My girlfriend and I do this at karaoke. I start singing, while she remains in the audience but near enough the front. With a few seconds to spare, she rushes up, grabs the mic and sings "Such a long way to goooooooo..." Then, she hands me back the mic and takes her seat again.

Just heard Michael McDonald talking to Rick Beato about this incident where he was too stoned after sharing an extra strong doobie with Patrick Simmons, and accidentally saw this on the tv while lying down in his room. In February 2000, there was a Michael McDonald tribute concert at the Shrine in LA. McDonald performing his solo material and many, many songs with the Doobie Brothers, Kenny Loggins, etc. etc. They played this clip on the video screens by way of introducing Christopher Cross, who came out and did "Ride Like the Wind." I hadn't seen the clip before, but seeing it and then immediately seeing the song live (with M McD coming out to sing those couple of lines) was an experience I'll never forget.

Massive respect for Michael McDonald...suchba unique voice. There are others with impressive backing vocal credits as well eg, Richard Page, Tom Kelly, Timothy B Schmit, Arnold McCullar, David Lesley (RIP), Valerie Carter (RIP), Katie Markowitz, Venetta Fields, Don Henley, Glen Frey, JD Souther, and list goes on. Taking nothing away from Michael who incidentally was being lined up by Toto as a potential lead singer.
