Yeah, that's the beauty of this sketch, and maybe others from this series. Lesser writers/actors might have made fun of the contestants, but somehow we're laughing with them instead of at them. They're so adorable, but it's the poor host we laugh at because he doesn't know how to handle this situation. Such is life, sometimes.

I loved how in the early 2000s Eugene Levy's career suddenly got a second wind, and he became like a "comedy insurance policy" for crappy Hollywood movies. Even if a script wasn't that funny, as long as you cast Levy in a supporting role his performance would deliver guaranteed laughs.

@@aquariandawn4750 Why not both? Just imagine it's around 1996, new episode with guest star Martin Short as an enterprising Ferengi information broker gets involved on the station. Of course his character exists to be a foil to Quark: he's more charismatic, friendlier, funnier, smarter, successful, bigger lobes, and can play the hoomans and even Odo like a fiddle! In the end it turns out he was orchestrating the threat or betraying our heroes or just in general trying to take advantage of whatever the situation of the week is and exploit it to the best of his weaselly Ferengi guts. So he's a bad guy, but maybe not the bad guy. But he's such a great guy, he helps our heroes out with the worse threat and doesn't get arrested for whatever political reason, and he slips away like a slippery Lissepian slime eel. Of course in the end, lessons are learned, and we realize as odious as some may find him, Quark has far more ethics and scruples than most Ferengi. Humanity is infectious after all.

Eugene Levy such a grossly underrated comedic talent. EDIT: Evidently a lot of people replying to my comment are having diaper rash because I stated “underrated”. Like every other comment on social media, there’s always HALF WITS who have to take exception, thus I’ll clarify my statement for those cry babies: Compared to Candy (SCTV) and Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, and a long list of others from SNL, Eugene Levy, though just as funny if not funnier, didn’t enjoy the same level of fame. I’m sure this will start a whole new string of keyboard-warrior pantie-waste replies. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The sketch centered around a Bobby Bittman PSA for literacy done in a children's library cracks me up every time. As Bobby Bittman gives his synopsis of Moby Dick he blows cigarette smoke on the kids and taps his cigarette ash off on the librarian's desk is pure comedy gold.
