Mr. McDonald, what the hell do you have in your vocal chords? Ok, I'll tell you. It's magic. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Mike has amazing piano chops. His piano playing is as great and unique as his voice. Hell, his keyboard chops were good enough to make it on Steely Dan albums. The electric sound of the original version of this recording didn't age as well as it could have. Had a heavy 80's drum machine, horn, etc. sound, but the composition is top-notch. Amazing chord/key changes, vocal harmonies, etc., etc., etc. Just very unique. Very Michael.

Hes too amazing. Just when I thought he wouldn't dare attempt some of the high notes, he pressed on anyway. Struggled and kept right on going. I dont want anyone but Michael mcdonald singing Michael mcdonald songs. Thank god hes still alive and well and able to still enjoy these gems live.
@Spartanm3333 жыл бұрын
Mike's always been a live performer his first band at 11, his dad and sisters all singers. Irish stock brought up in the St Louis soul and church belt. However, he is coming up 70 now and time to give these songs up I feel, or like Johnny Mathis, have your iconic songs re-scored - the fans will still want them but then you don't have to strain - Johnny carries on (today) into his 80's

Fantastic with the Doobie Brothers, but even better as a solo artist. A genuine talent.
@brendadawless35952 жыл бұрын
For me, the Doobie Brothers were a stepping stone for Michael, and when he left, it was the best thing ever. As you buy each album, he improves as a true soul singer, not just an R & B singer but a true soul singer from the heart. The man can really sing, there is so much heart in his songs, and he is an excellent songwriter. So Michael, keep singing and keep playing; we need you, the world needs you.

What a great rock pianist. Generating a whole percussive and rhythm sound with the piano (this effect would be created by bass guitar, drums and synths in the original). His pinnacle for me was the collaboration with Ingram ya mo be there (RIP james Ingram this month)
@DannyKavka3 жыл бұрын
movingtodefcon2 It’s also great to hear how nice his touch sounds on the acoustic given that he usually plays digital keyboards these days. Like hearing Elton John before he switched to the MIDI Yamaha in 1993.
@movingtodefcon23 жыл бұрын
Danny Kavka agree, (I’m not sure I’ve ever come to terms with the use of the term acoustic for a piano!!). It’s much harder to get a consistent full sustained sound on a standard piano vs a digital one - he does a great job.

I only found out today that Rod Temperton wrote this. I enjoy it all the more now!
@jackferris5363 Жыл бұрын
Wow! I never considered this a gospel number!?! Things I've learnt tonight: 1. Mike is a better pianist than I ever imagined 2. He really looks like Ron Perlman 3. Rod Temperton could make any song sound like thriller I can't believe anyone who plays a song with this much passion didn't have a major hand in the writing process. So how is Temperton credited as sole songwriter??
