Michael O'Hearn - how does he manage to look so good at 54 years old?
Hey guys, today I want to tell you about an amazing athlete who has been featured on over 500. magazine covers, achieved incredible mastery in his sport, maintains excellent physical shape, and all at the age of 54!
Many people rush to judge Mike, saying that he must be on steroids! However, I will prove to you that this is not the case. When taking steroids, side effects begin to manifest after a certain period of time, results begin to decline, and more and more steroids need to be taken. Mike has been training for over 30 years, and if he had been using steroids, all of the consequences would have been visible by now. But no, he looks great, he's 54 years old and doesn't look it. Now I'll tell you how he manages to do it.
From all the materials about him and interviews I've read, I learned that he is the eighth child in a family of hereditary athletes and sportsmen, which prompted him to start training at an early age. Fame came to him in his youth, which, according to his own words, helped him quickly get over the "star disease" and behave adequately.
He follows this adequacy not only in life but also in training. He highly recommends gradual strength development and giving up supporting tools such as bandages and belts. He knew from the beginning that he was going into sports for a long time, so he didn't chase after super-high weights and therefore still doesn't know what joint pain is after 30 years of training.
However, he doesn't avoid heavy weights, on the contrary - he loves them! But before taking on serious weights, years of training are necessary for neuromuscular connections and joints to strengthen enough.
By the way, his training is also very interesting. He starts with small weights, doing only 2 repetitions. According to him, this is the best way to warm up the muscles. For example, his bench press workout looks like this:
• 2 lifts of 85 kg
• 2 lifts of 120 kg
• 2 lifts of 150 kg
• 4 lifts of 180 kg
After that, he can polish his chest with multi-repetitive exercises with small weights.
In his opinion, at the beginning of the workout, you should work with heavy weights, pre-warming up the muscles, and then consolidate everything with light weights and a large number of repetitions.
