I was 6 when I saw ROTJ and like you one of my favorite parts was the fight over the sarlacc pit. Behind our kindergarten school was a huge sand Pit that everyone pretended to fall down and eaten by the creature. The nun had no idea what we were doing and was watching us with great confusion and awe. Every time my friends and cousins talk about it we laugh so hard. When I took my nephew to see force awakens and last Jedi I had hoped he would see something that he would remember like I did. But unfortunately not. It is a shame. But when I told him about that sand pit he laughs and calls me a dork. I tell him yes I am! Also more BV!!!

I like the final third of Rogue One .I dislike how the 2nd act is a remake of the first act - Rebels drag Jyn to planet to get info on Death Star, place is attacked, father/father figure dies, place blows up and they escape. The 2nd act is also entirely redundant. Nothing happens there that has any bearing on the plot AT ALL (note: Jyn's dad dying affects the plot about as much as Walrus Man having his arm chopped off affects the plot of Star Wars). Also, it's the Rebel attack that kills Galen - you'd think Jyn would be kinda mad at the Rebels for that...

I love rogue one. I felt like it had more weight to it than the entirety of this sequel trilogy. Getting the death star plans to the rebels just as darth is cutting them down one by one? Badass. As for the OG trilogy, for all the reasons you gave, return of the jedi's just MY personal favorite

@@OpenMawProductions how does it not line up with Star Wars?
@samgilley31602 жыл бұрын
Yeah I really like Rogue One. Its not perfect, not by a long shot, but I actually like how it recontextualized the OG Star Wars in a meaningful way by making the really convenient flaw in the Death Star a purposeful sabotage by a rebellion sympathizer within the Empire. I would've actually LOVED a slow burn, political thriller about Galen Erso trying to manipulate the construction of the death star to his advantage while trying to remain under the radar of his superiors. But what we got is fine too, because that space battle is second only to RotJ, its genuinely spectacular. Yeah the characters feel undercooked and kind of flat, but they were all likeabke in some way, especially k2so. It has plot problems but it seems like a movie made for fans who genuinely cared about the story of the original.
@OpenMawProductions2 жыл бұрын
@@samgilley3160 It's not a really convenient flaw, and I don't get where people get that notion from, or why it needed to be addressed. It's a tiny, small, miniscule little exhaust port surrounded by guns, on a moon sized object. It's like trying to find one small carter amidst a sea of craters on the surface of the moon and hitting it with a bullseye. It was NEVER a "Convenient" target.
@samgilley31602 жыл бұрын
@@OpenMawProductions I disagree, I don't think it NEEDED to be addressed. I just think it's a neat recontextualization. It was kinda convenient that shooting a small exhaust port could blow up a station the size of a small moon. Its not a huge flaw or anything but I think its silly to pretend it isn't a tad convenient.

Seeing Obi-Wan and Anakins relation in Clone Wars makes me rather sad we don’t get to see much of it in Attack of the Clones, it would have made the characters a lot more enjoyable at least.
@williamcronshaw52624 жыл бұрын
Clone Wars should have been Episode 2, the Phantom Menace is just so detached from the rest of the trilogy that I feel like it should have been a side story. That way we would have had one over arching Darth Vader like villian throughout the prequels, we would have gotten Anakin the war hero and the relationship between him and Obi Wan developed more so it has more weight when it all falls appart, and General Grevious wouldn't have been a total joke.

I really liked the point you brought up about the costume design for the Jedi in the prequels. Admittedly, it was my first time hearing that argument, and I thought it made a lot of sense. That concept art for how the Jedi could've looked in the prequels would've been so gratifying to see on screen, and added a more nuanced layer of cohesion between the prequels and the original trilogy, rather than just copying Obi-Wan's desert robes. He was in hiding during the original films after all, and even taking the extra precaution of using a pseudonym, so it doesn't make sense narratively for his character to undermine that by continuing to dress exactly like a Jedi. The only problem is, now that it's been brought to my attention, I'll never be able to unsee it!

1. Like for undertaking such a daunting task. I found myself nodding with appreciation and pleasant surprise with most of the comments for films outside the OT. “There is still good in [them]”. 2. Like for nailing almost everything I loved about RotJ. That was my first SW film as well (though I saw it as a rental at a friend’s sleepover when I was seven or eight), and is ultimately still my favorite. I would like to add a particular shoutout to William’s score during the final duel, and to the amazing stop-motion of the AT-STs on Endor. But you nailed everything else. 3. Like for similar experience with TFA. Prequels made me realize SW could be disappointing, but I was cautiously optimistic thanks to Marvel/Disney’s success and what JJ did with the first Trek reboot. (As only a very very casual fan of the IP, I wasn’t irked by what I hear was the virtual destruction of the lore.) It wasn’t really until Rey essentially taught Han how to fix the Falcon and flew it almost perfectly after a moment of “Oh, I’ve never flown anything ever, so now I’m making an awkwardly fast journey from ineptitude to mastery”. It was downhill from there...steeply. But yes, the opening moments with Rey, and Kylo’s initial appearance (though somewhat undercut by a poor decision to give Poe some jokes) made me think SW had regained its footing. For a moment. I don’t know if you managed to think of nice things to say first and decided to make the video, or if it was a gauntlet you challenged yourself with (presuming little DV isn’t actually alive), but I applaud your courage in exploring the films outside the OT with a genuine desire to see the best in them.

I saw this star wars when I was 5 years old at a drive in. Grew up on old universal monster movies. Godzilla, rat patrol, buck Rodgers, you know, I mean tv was my babysitter, I'm 46. I can see in your mind what I feel about all of what you talk about on your channel. Thank you brother

I was ok with the force awakens. And when it ended the way it did gave me so much hope for 8 and those hopes were dashed in the first 10 minutes when Luke IN HIS JEDI ROBES tosses his FATHERS saber and goes to change his clothes and proceeded to tell Rey he has been cut of from the force! Even though he is on a Jedi temple , in Jedi robes, guarding the sacred texts??? Ya!

Episode 1: It was done on film. I liked the Amidala costume designs. Maul's design. The saber fight choreography + Duel of Fates score was brilliant. Episode 2: The whole Return to Tatooine sequence with the real set was a nice throwback and the death of Shmi was effective, as you mention. The score used for all of that was great too. I would also say that Dooku was a well-cast villain. I appreciated what they tried to do with Boba's origin even though it could have been better. Episode 3: Fantastic look for both Anakin and Obi-Wan, I didn't like either of their hair and costumes in Ep 2 so this was much improved. I was a kid at the time so I have a soft spot for the Grievous design. I suppose I also liked that the film had the balls to go as dark as it did, although those moments don't always feel earned. Episode 4: The "trench run" sequence on the Death Star held up quite well from what I recall. Unfortunately, I only saw the 90s versions. Episode 5: The Hoth battle. Also the tense Vader & Luke fight and the parts leading up to it. Episode 6: Luke's costume and saber plus his arc across the film. The throne room sequence was really well done as was the score. Episode 7: It was done on film, from what I recall. I enjoyed the practical effects and costumes, I also liked the detail of the lightsabers actually having a real/practical glow on the actors rather than simply adding them in post, like the prequels. Episode 8: The salt planet looked nice. Mark Hamill pulled off the bearded sage look quite well I suppose. Episode 9: Didn't watch it but I'll go with the reversing of plot threads and the discourse that followed being mildly amusing.

Phantom Menace is my favorite prequel as well. To me, it felt the most like a Star Wars movie. I'm not sure why, perhaps it was Liam Neesons performance. With him gone, the other two movies felt like they were missing something.

Watching A New Hope in the cinema in 1977 was amazing I wish you could have been around then to have witnessed it.

God, you can see Michael is almost gritting his teeth when he's trying to say something nice about TLJ:)))

Whew, I was nervous about the prospect of saying something nice about the last 2 desecrations without being sarcastic but you did well focusing on 1 costume and 1 prop. Well done as always. If it was me I'd just want to skip commenting on _Star Wars_ and _The Empire Strikes Back_ because they are so otherworldly perfect I've been saying nice things about them for decades. Phantom Menace: Sebulba is one of the coolest alien designs ever. AotC: The chase at the beginning was cool. RotS: Darth Vader was complicit in mass genocide so I liked that George Lucas got shocking with his turn to evil. (killing kids)

I love all 8 (haven’t seen 9 yet), but I love them for different reasons. I love the originals for being genuinely good movies. I love Phantom Menace for the camp. I love 2 and 3 for the nostalgia (I grew up with them) and for seeing the Jedi in action. I love 7 and 8 for a return to practical effects and a return to a lived in world which was lacking in the prequels.

When somebody only says good things or bad things about a film is always a little suspect: reveals the inability to see anything different from what is inside them. Good thought experiment for most things and very important for fanatics. Thanks for mentioning the Graflex: definitely one of the most excellent parts. Lucky none of the ice foxes had to face it!

It’s nice to know that another person ranks the quality of the prequels in the same way I do. Even though they don’t cross the threshold of being great, but phantom is a story with a beginning, middle, and end while revenge is just a collection of scenes without good structure.

Mattytime Yeah, it’s a good point. I still hate Phantom Menace more than any other SW movie, but I think both Clones and Sith have that issue.

onjohns1 there is plenty of things for yousa and meesa to hate in phantom. But it’s an actual movie. The other two not so much.
