Welsh pride is such a special type of national pride. We aren’t so much interested in our status in the world, but rather in our culture, our land, our people and our history. Michael Sheen epitomises that, for me.

I love Welsh accents but I find the Welsh language to be harsh on the ear and not vaguely pleasant to listen to (compared with say a language like Italian). But I have to say I'm pleased efforts are being made to encourage people to learn Welsh because it's important that it prospers and is used as a matter of course. All languages are important...even if I don't particularly like the language.

Well Wales isn’t a sovereign state, like say Germany or France. For a long time people were forced to speak English meaning the Welsh language wasn’t being passed on from generation to generation. But people from Wales are still Welsh, Welsh just isn’t everybody’s mothertounge there.
@DangerousDavies2008
@DangerousDavies2008 Жыл бұрын
30% of Wales speak Welsh fluently. During the 19th and early 20th century it was almost wiped out due to the dominance of English. This course was reversed on the introduction of the Welsh language act in the 1970s.

Cymru has been fighting a systematic cultural-genocide for over 800 years. A result of that was a near-extinguishing of our language. Couple that with the fact that Cymraeg uses multiple sounds which don't appear in English, and you've got countless generations of children who now have a massive hill to climb to just use their mother-tongue.
