i never got the feeling that the cardassians were slimy, vaguely reptilian yes, but i never felt like they would feel slimy to the touch. i always imagined their skin would feel more cartilaginous, like a thick rough skin
@j-46914 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't even call them reptilian since they have hair, give birth, have warm blood (despite preferring hot temperatures), and have a primate like body. Their scales always reminded me more of an armadillo or a pangolin rather than scales of a snake or lizard.
@TroutBoneless4 жыл бұрын
@@j-4691 yes, exactly, that's the type of skin i was thinking of, and good point about them clearly not being reptilian

I'm not anti cgi, but man, this is something I miss. Practical effects that look just as good in behind the scenes stuff as on TV.

Seen lots of comments that the Cardassian is Marc Alaimo as Gul Dukat. That is not Marc Alaimo. That is Mark Major, he plays various background characters. His big on-screen moment is in the episode Cardassia joins the Dominion ("By Inferno's Light," Season 5) with Garak in the prison camp with Worf, Bashir, Martok. When all Cardassian prisoners come forward and are told Cardassia joined the Dominion, he and Garak exchange bewildered glances.

I saw a piece on the Hollywood reporter where they "made up" a reporter as a "Klingon" but was it done the right way with appliances......NO the makeup artist simply put a mask on the reporter's head. I don't even think the area around the reporter's eyes were colored in to blend in with the mask. Micheal Westmore needs to return to the Trek universe.

Michael Joseph Alaimo, who played Dukat on DS9 (and was also on TNG as various characters) absolutely hated his make up process, but he ended up being one of the most memorable character villains in all of Star Trek. He first appeared as a Cardassian in an earlier episode of TNG and wore the most ridiculous "helmet" you've ever seen. I'm glad they stopped using that as part of their costume: images.app.goo.gl/r84GKuudWi9BfiPH6 (as Gul Macet). You can see he sported a weird reverse goatee in that one, too.

@JustWasted3HoursHere3 жыл бұрын
@@JonnySublime Have you seen the "What We Left Behind" DS9 documentary? It's excellent and Michael talks about how he didn't feel appreciated because the producers never told him what a great job he was doing. But the head writer, Ira Behr said, basically, "Sorry about that, but we kept writing you into the show BECAUSE we loved what you were doing!" (me: They _SHOULD_ have definitely told him how well he was doing, in my opinion. He and Garak (Andrew Robinson) were my favorite characters on the show.) You can watch it for free with commercials on KZfaq (or no commercials if you have AdBlocker installed!). You can watch it here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r66Zq7pqtbLXcZc.html and you can get the AdBlocker extension from the Google Chrome store here: chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adguard-adblocker/bgnkhhnnamicmpeenaelnjfhikgbkllg It's probably also available for other browsers, or there are other extensions for other browsers that do the same thing. I haven't had an ad on a KZfaq video for at least 3 years!

There was a book came out years ago that had all the Star Trek Makeup and some props. I lost it about 15 years ago. But one part stuck, because I was obssessed with the Borg, was how they pulled it off. Well I remembered the book and as an ol' Goth, I remembered the part he talked about drawing on the black veins and tendrils unger the skin first heavily. Then just stipple over in the grey/white everywhere. But dont go mad. The lines look like they're under the skin. I did this for a girlfriend's daughter for halloween. I wanted full black contacts, but well it'd be cruel as she was only bout 9. She had vampire teeth so I kept giving her liqourice and she looked like the penguin lol. She scared the "S***" outta everyone. I was like "Thanks Mr Westmore and Star Trek" She didn't win the costume competition unfortunately. Prob gave her the runs after the Liqourice but WORTH IT. ( It was meant to look like the Ring kinda thing. Little girl, hair draped over straggly and ghostly, demonic infected visage I think I went too far as the other Kids looked like.. Well kids in makeup playing dressup) The World Book day is a thing in the UK. Me and the then partner's daughter had a few funny ideas about Rhald Dhal, but it never came to be lol. Michael Westmore. I salute for making my early twenties fun a decade ago.
