MAB's "Tribute to Randy" is the complete version of Michael's amazing tribute to guitar great Randy Rhoads. This version was performed live in MAB's studio and is available on Michael's "Performance" DVD available at www.angelo.com. The recorded version of "Tribute to Randy" is available on his "Hands Without Shadows" CD available at www.angelo.com
Michael performed some of Randy's most famous solos in "Tribute to Randy" using a completely different approach and techniques. Randy Rhoads used tapping extensively in many of the solo sections, whereas Michael choose to use "sweep" arpeggios to re create the magic of Randy's music. Michael wanted to pay homage and respect to one of the greatest Metal Guitarists of all time - Randy Rhoads, with this tribute. Enjoy!
Michael used a Marshall "combo" amp with 2, 12's to achieve his sound. His Marshall stacks were used as props for the video.

Saw a interview where he said he learned guitar to annoy his sister, growing up. I'll take that any day over the great rock-star mythologies people try to weave. He's real. I do wish he'd leave the over the neck type gimmickry alone; just playing orthodox kick-ass hard rock guitar, he's a beast.

I've been playing guitar for over 40 years (delta blues, classic rock, very little neo-classical). I don't think I've ever seen this level of technical mastery combined with this level of intensity. I was genuinely scared at several points because it was like watching a nuclear reactor going off close-up. The enemy of great playing is getting too excited while doing it, yet that excitement still has to be present to convey the emotional content. It's a genuine understatement to say that most people have never experienced this level of intensity at any moment of their lives, let alone have the ability to switch it on like this (and somehow live with this nuclear reactor inside the rest of the time as if some ordinary mortal). Much Respect.

Pretty much..yeah It has to be a helluva comedown for him when he stops, and pretty nerve wracking if he ever wants to turn it off but he can't...like if he's trying to sleep or something and his mind is still racing thinking of notes and riffs I don't think other skills like woodworking or computer programming have as much room for mastery as guitar does...pulled those examples out of my ass so I could be wrong, but I can't really see there being a Michael Angelo batio of fishing lol

I met MAB after a guitar clinic at Rochester's House of Guitars. He was friends with my now ex-wife. So Michael, the ex, my 2 youngest son's (16 and 14 at the time) and the 16 year son's buddy all hung out afterwards and later went to dinner. After he finished his set walking to the "green" room back stage he asked me what I thought ( of course I knew of him since OFr Nitro days) and I stopped walking, put my arm around his shoulders, looked him in eye and told him he had no technique. LOL. He was gracious, interesting, funny and kind. He regailed us with awesome about EVH, Uli Roth, Shemker and a slew of greats and his contemporaries. Fascinating, humble and witty. Stellar musician and incredible human being!

I don't comment a lot on videos, but as a lifetime fan of rock 'n roll I believe MAB deserves some credit. His tributes of various artists, especially this one for Randy, really speak to me. The discussion of who is the greatest guitar player, or greatest whatever, will always be a subjective one. Regardless, in my own personal opinion, MAB has to be right up there with the greats and definitely one of the best all out shredders I've ever heard.

I've only really seen MAB in the context of his double neck dual playing, which while interesting, I didn't really get into that much as far as wanting to listen to it. But holy shit I did not realize how amazing this guy is. That was simply incredible, not what I expected. Tasteful, perfect, impossibly clean and precise, and just a brilliant tribute.

It is a pleasure to watch a true master of the instrument. Just watch his picking hand. There is no wasted motion and it is as efficient as one can get. He makes it look easy. There are only a few people with these skills, but it's not even really about that. It his obvious love and passion that make him such a great musician. Liked and subbed.

And he can do it with both hands on 2 necks at the same time with his arms crossed. I found his album and Vinnie Moore's about the same time and I was listening to it on the way home and decided... Ok just fuck it, I'm going home and burning my guitar. Luckily my house was about an hours ride from the record store and I got over it and was properly inspired by then, still felt like crap though. I'll never be that good, I said, here it is about 30-31 years later and though I got a lot better he still makes me shake my head and say. But how the fuck? lol

He may be more technically proficient, there's a certain magic in the way Randy played them originally. He seems to try to capture that but fucks it up. I think he's great, but some things are better left as they are.

Appreciate the speed and interpretation - Michael Angelo is without a doubt one of the greatest and gifted guitarist - Still, as clean, crisp and fast as some of these sound - Randy's feeling, time and attention to each note can be missed in contrast... I applaud Michael for paying tribute to probably the best guitarist that caught our ear back in the 80's - thanks for this I enjoyed it

I saw him live in 1990 with "Nitro" I was absolutely completely blown away and was surprised . Being a bass player.... I listened to nitro and thought... "there is no way" so I went to see him live with the rest of my musician friends.. and i will tell you.. there is nothing fake about what this guy can do. TO describe Nitro, (his band @ that time) they had the longest hair, the craziest show, the best musicians there were. The drummer was incredible, the bass player was incredible, the singer was incredible and then there is mike... check out his old band.... they take extreme to the extreme of extreme and then make that extreme.

After watching this video again( I guess for the 600th time now), I have some feelings I'd like to share, especially knowing that Mr. Batio is reading all of these comments: I've been following you since I was 15. I am 26 now, and most of my guitar playing( the picking stance and your style of bends which you've explained in countless tutorials), have your influence in them. More importantly, you have influenced my life as a person, making me better, helping me realise that humanity shouldn't be forgotten no matter what success levels you reach. You sir, are a genuis at mind, and a loving, respectful person at heart, and A GOD of music. Thank you for existing, and thank you for influencing people like me with your dedication and humbleness. I still feel shock and awe while watching your videos. Wish you a long, healthy life, full of shredds and even more guitars!
