Alone Installing The Water System In My Bus Conversion

Due to being in quarantine, I was not able to get some of the supplies to finish the cabinet doors instead we started on the school bus water system. We installed the fresh water tank along with the 12v water pump, accumulator and filter. It is a really simple and tight rv water system. All I need to run is the sink and the shower!

Two things. The plywood cover facing the front of the cabinets, you can utilize as a small storage if you build a door. Also use some felt or cloth material between your metal tank straps and tank. The tank may flex and move on bumpy roads. Sharp straps will cut into tank. Good job on this build so far!

They should add baffles into water tanks for vehicles, so the water doesn't slap one direction, then back, without some impediment to stop that.

Good man. You're doing the right thing. Where i live, everything is quarantined. Restaurant are on delivery/take out, and there is no non-outside activities possible. I live in canada, in the province of Quebec. You taking care of your community is amazing. There is not enough people doing so.

Buddy, you might want the pump below the tank. Otherwise it will be hard to prime. Also get a bicycle infertile to slide over your straps in order to protect the water tank.

Good work Michael! Working alone isn't always the most fun, but you got it done. And like usual, you still manged to get some got teaching in and show us how it all gets done. You might want to think about putting the sink and sink counter space on a hinge. So that, if, in the future you have to get to your water arrangement, it will be easier. Just an Idea.

Hey man. Awesome build. Love both buses. Just an FYI. The water pump is way too high. The water coming out of your tank won’t even be able to reach it. The water in the pipe before the pump will only reach the height as the water in the tank. The water pump has to be the same height or below as the outlet of your tank or else you not get max water out of your tank.

Put a piece of rubber between the tank and straps please, I don't want it to rub on your water tank. Also please protect your pex lines from the wood. The bus is similar to an earthquake. HepVo valve is your best friend for sink and shower drain.

that's a small filter. You should look into something bigger possibly a UV light as well. Carbon catchers etc.

I will have a filter before the fresh water tank that will be for water safety. The little filter is to protect the 12v pump from anything that could get through the system.

You do really good work, your cabinets and your layout looks great. I’m not sure you really need straps on the side of the tank since it is enclosed. But you definitely need more than one strap on the front and i agree with other comments that you need to protect your tank from the straps.Rubber or felt would work nicely.Keep up the good work and stay safe.

Michael, did you consider installing a hot water line to recycle from the shower back to the fresh water tank. Why? Because if you want to take a warm/hot shower with wasting water, you turn on the hot water and let go back to the fresh water tank until it is hot enough for you, then take your quick shower. This way, you don’t waste any water waiting for hot water. Hope this makes sense.

Yeah, I am one of those cold shower people 😂 don’t get me wrong hot showers are nice but when I am on the road I shower pretty quick to save water. The gang will be back I. The next one.

Watertank, why not mount the screws in/at the rear of the wood. If you brake now, the screw can come out, if you put it in the rear of the same board as it is in now, itt is much less possible. Hope you understand what I mean. Nice videos, love it. Keep up the good work 👌🏻👍🏻😁

The only problem with that tho would be if he charged just a reasonable labor rate the cost of this quality of a build would be enormous and then you’d really have to think hard about it because there could be other options at that point and if you did go they with a build, you’d need to hold onto it and enjoy it cause you’ll never be able to sell it for what you have invested. This is one reason why you don’t find buses with nice conversion jobs like what he is doing, for sale, cause they don’t exist. You can find plenty of botched jobs where folks watch KZfaq and think it looks easy and get in over their heads and quit and try to sell it at a fairly high price cause it’s partially converted but they don’t understand everything they did is wrong and bad quality, not at all what this bus is and most of the time they end up sitting and rotting then. Sorry to say victor, but if you don’t have the skills to do most all of this yourself then there’s no way it would make financial sense to build one. Your better off going with a motor home of some sort Take care and stay safe out there

Hi Michael, I’m enjoying watching the Ivan build! It’s going so well. On this vid however, I have a couple worries. First, the bottom surface of the water tank (when we could see you sliding it in place) is straddling upon two 2 x 4s spaced apart, not a total flat surface. I’ve seen tanks like this, when full, not placed on a flat surface. The plastic over time deforms or bulges down into voids, eventually developing stress cracks at sharp surface transitions and later begins leaking. Remember you’ll have as much as 320 lbs of water in it! My second worry is the (up to) 320 lbs mass won’t be held back by the strapping over that right hand end in a hard braking maneuver or front impact. It will slide right out! I’d hate to see the work you put into acquiring/placing all the water management equipment and possibly compromising all your great cabinet work. Might you be able to fasten something like a long horizontal 2 x 4 brace against the back wall where one end is butted up against the right side of the tank and the other against the left cabinet wall? That would certainly lock it in and you could use screws to remove the brace in the event the tank needs to be removed. Thank you for a great series!

Cost would be one thing the shark bite connectors are more expensive where we are at. Besides that it’s just what I have always used and I had all the crimping tools.

Hi! Can you use PVC pipe? I don't want leaks down the road, every schoolie conversion is using PEX, but the shark bite connectors are expensive. So, if you can, please lmk what's better. Thanks!

Are you going to wrap the pipes for cold weather? Where is the fill connection going at?

Not in this bus, they are in open interior spaces and the bus will either be heated or i will blow the lines out.

Did you put the tank in upside down? The large fill port is on the bottom

Yeah I am going to fill it from the bottom and have an air release on the top.

Ok. I usually put the big opening at the top in case a hose loosens so no massive leak and use the opening you'll connect the pump to as the vent.

Hi! First off your videos have my top following when it's coming to my first bus conversion ... So I'm grateful for you for that. One question, no one is talking about their systems being connected to an electrical source Do I need electrical to have gray water and fresh water systems in my bus that run? I've read that if I manually lite my gas water heater I can bypass electrical, and would the rest just be pressure? I eventually plan for a complete solar setup but I mean, financing that though I currently, at this moment, have a shell of a bus ... Insides ripped out. Still have to figure the electrical schematics (your video with your pop has been very helpful) Just tryna wrap my head around it all as an entire project from start to how I desire to finish
