I found this just from looking up a bit more about the freighter which German merchant raider Kormoran disguised herself as before her fateful duel with HMAS Sydney. It's fascinating. Loading the timber particularly; so there was no quay there and the crew just had to lift it out of the water! I wonder, did they have a sawmill aboard for converting the size of the timbers or just strike them down whole? It's a lot different to having palletized cargoes, it looks like hard work.
