Will Roger Waters Sue Pink Floyd? The Conflict Between Roger Waters & David Gilmour Is Full On!
Hey everyone!
In the past few days Pink Floyd in one way or another has declared war on each other more ways than one! If only they had someone willing to call for a cease-fire!
But with Roger Waters telling the rest of the world what they should do regarding Ukrkraine & Russia, they apparently are at least one man short to take on such a noble cause!
Tonight I cover Roger’s brush with the United Nations, Polly Samson’s statement regarding him, and her husband David Gilmour’s subsequent statement as well! Tonight I’ll also cover Roger’s statement concerning re-recording The Dark Side of the Moon, and what’s behind that whole project!
Is there no respite for the weary? Will Roger sue David & Polly for their statements? He did say that he’s looking into it!
Of course these and many more questions are answered in tonight’s video!
And as usual if you enjoy tonight;s video, please consider giving it a Thumbs-Up as that helps the KZfaq algorithm better identify the channel to a larger audience!
If you haven’t subscribed to the channel as of yet, just hit that subscribe to ‘The Tribe’ button, and then tap that Top-Bell Icon, and you’ll be notified of all my future videos!

Anyone that says they alone were Pink Floyd is delusional. All 4 members contributed their piece and removing any one of them would change the sound so greatly that it would no longer be recognizable. That would be like Paul saying that he was the Beatles and could have created Sgt Pepper alone. Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that is just plain nonsense.

Same thing if Eddie Van Halen saying his guitar playing is all that matters in his band. No Eddie, you need a singer, drummer and bass player too. You're one of the great guitarists of all time but Alex, Michael Anthony, David, Sammy and Gary to an extent all contributed to your success too

It's because Roger is a sociopath. Nick and David moved on, and are comfortable where they're at in life. Nick embraced retirement the moment Roger left by racing cars, and appreciates any gigs he gets. David started flying planes and drops an LP every few years and tours if he feels like it. They have actual lives. Roger? Roger goes around trying to show everybody how smart he is. Roger is so unstable and insecure he has to prove something not to the world, but himself.

David Gilmour was doing that and graciously ignoring Roger's provocations - appreciated by many. David's wife evidently more political with a complex family background. Which is fine but her tweet's political objections coupled with personal insults .Defamation law less tolerant of malice. I would be surprised if David saw it before sent. Roger thrives on controversy and combat but this will be hard for David even if this too settled out court.

It doesn't matter that often times it was Roger who brought the material to the band. The fact is that, the four guys brought their talents to the songs' development which is why they sounded like Pink Floyd and became great. Roger also brought his songs to his solo works but now without the input of the other three. Hence, his solo works have never been anywhere near as good as the Pink Floyd finished products. And the same is also true for the Pink Floyd albums without Roger but to a lesser degree, as there were still three members contributing their input to those albums. The simple truth is all four are needed to have the right chemistry. If you bake a cake requiring four ingredients, but you only use three or one, well, it will never quite come out the same or taste as good. Some things are only great when the sum of all parts are there.

All true but it was the rest of the band who where happy to let Rodger be the main writer as he had to when Syd had his Psychotic episode. No one else even tried to be a writer so Rodger realised I will have to take on the responsibility and the rest of the band admit they where happy for that to happen but after the success of dark side of the moon and echoes the other band members started to want more input but Rodger by then had this huge ego and responsibility to be the main man who had been put into that position by losing the talents of Syd. Remember it was Syd who started the band with Rodger and then they invited Nick and then Richard to get involved and only because of Syd having a complete psychotic breakdown Dave got involved it was either step up or sink or swim which Rodger whom had never wrote a song suddenly became the man the whole band relied upon.which evidence shows with dark side of the moon which was mainly his idea then with wish you where here the same, obviously the wall was Rodger’s baby and I know it’s wrong to believe you’re the only person that matters evidence shows that he was correct to do what he had to do not through choice but through tragedy. There’s way to much placed on it all being Rodger’s issues but the whole band where against him & could u imagine what that must have been like so no wonder he wrote alone as there wasn’t the production coming from the other guy’s that where good enough to actually add there songs onto an album which Rodger believed where not good enough to be included. That’s where it all began to fall apart.

Roger pulled out of PF back in the day because, as I recall, he felt the band was then done and had become irrelevant. Gilmour, Mason and Wright clearly felt otherwise and a court rejected Roger's attempt to stop the remaining three guys touring and recording under the PF banner. I saw PF both in pre DSOTM days and on the band's last world tour in 1988 and have seen Roger three times on his own DSOTM, Wall and another big tour he did a few years ago. The first hundred times listening to it with headphones, I would would say perfect. The 4 members of Pink Floyd were essential for that and many more albums. You don’t mess with success. @kevin ohara - that's not true at all. David and Nick decided together to continue on, but during the recording process Nick himself didn't feel as driven as he needed to be and had to get back into it at a slower rate. Same with Rick. It was out of necessity that David had others fill in and play on the record while Nick and Rick got their heads together. That, along with the 80s production is why they weren't complete happy with the record and decided to re-record/remix it the way it was always intended to sound. I don't know. As prickly as Roger's demeanor is. He never resorted to name calling. Pollys statement was scathing and while not necessarily untrue, it should've been on a less public forum. I agree with you on Division Bell. But that was more due to them getting together and writing through open jamming. Wright's thumbprint hasn't been as present since Obscured by Clouds. That leaves me to my next point. Gilmour was right to not carry on the Floyd after his passing. Then he walks that back to release Hey Hey Rise Up under the Pink Floyd moniker. And he justifies it by taking sides in a conflict that is anything but transparent. As for Roger rerecording Dark Side for the 50th, well thats just Roger being Roger and it sure as hell beats repackaging what most fans have owned 5 times over and charging 300 dollars for it.... which is precisely what the other camp did. The level of pettiness that they are at now is shameful and sad to see quite frankly. And f*ing Rick Wright taught Roger how to play bass and read music. Part of the magic of DSOTM is the _stars aligned_ and the universe smiled. There was no hate or envy in their hearts. You can hear it everywhere, a total band effort. We've all heard/seen the live pre-album concerts. But when they went in to record - there just happened to be a set of roto-toms in the studio? Clare Torry turned a nice piano piece into a masterpiece? Speed up the last seconds of piano note to fit on LP? Anybody walking through studio door asked a question (and recorded)? "The Violent Sequence" goes from a 2 minute piano bridge into "Us And Them"? Pure and utter magic. Roger was the architect, but it took others to build and turn it into a thing of beauty and a _home._

I am going to say it. Water's was the main writer, and DSOTM is his lyrically. But it was a team effort to build the musical side of it. Gilmore was added to the band during Syd's decline. But Gilmore's guitar work is what really brought the band full circle. So that really created the power struggle in the band. So 3 of their albums are so iconic, neither side is willing to let go of them. Because of this. It is really going to spoil the fruits of their labor. Water's took a hard left into leftfield somewhere along the way, while Gilmore has always kept his political beliefs close to his self. Rock music has always been partly politically charged in one way or another. I just think that many of us are just tired of hearing about it, and want it all to go away.

Yes but it's genius was in the lyrics. They made greatly composed music, not necessarily complex music. Oh and gilmours amazing guy that work. But wright and mason in comparison to people like Collins and banks in Genesis pale in comparison. Waters and Gilmour made Pink Floyd. And waters was the one who conceptualized all of the albums. Everything after the wall was pure garbage as they needed each other and waters is a prick, but dude was the brain behind Pink floyd

The Band Name (Pink Floyd) was created by Syd and should go to his family. Syd Barrett The name Pink Floyd was created on the spur of a moment by Syd Barrett, when another band, also called the Tea Set, was to perform at one of their gigs. The name came from two blues musicians in Barrett's record collection; Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.

Anyone who has read Nicholas Schaffner's book on Pink Floyd knows how much Waters changed after Wish You Were Here. It was virtually impossible to argue with him. He took any objections to the formation and functioning of the band as a radical attack on himself. And it just got worse and worse. By the time The Wall was recorded, the band was practically split. Waters was the self-appointed leader of the band and made all the decisions, mostly without the knowledge of the others. He fired Wright. The atmosphere was desperate. After the last album, The Final Cut (which I consider more of a Waters solo album), he was the one who left the band. He thought that without him, everyone would fall apart and the band would die. What a surprise it was when Mason and Gilmour said the band would continue without Waters. He didn't react at first, saying it wouldn't last long and that he thought it was just an experiment. However, when he saw that the band was successful without him and he couldn't even fill a small concert hall with his projects, he sued the others (this time Wright returned to the band). Since then, he has been at virtually constant odds with the others (especially Gilmour - Wright has since died and Mason is happily retired). At the same time, it's coming out what a leftist and anti-Semite Waters is. His latest statement in support of Russia in the conflict with Ukraine is a major disappointment and has only confirmed for me that he is a narcissist. I'm not questioning his brilliant poetic talent or songwriting skills, but as a person he does nothing for me. Excuse my English, I'm from the Czech Republic and I don't speak much...

Not long after Roger separated from Pink Floyd I saw one of his concerts at an outdoor venue called Pine Knob in Michigan. I got seats under the pavilion. Compared to the seats on the surrounding hill it had the best acoustics. But all through the concert, I kept thinking how thin the music sounded and wondered how great it would've been if it had actually been Pink Floyd rather than the surrogate band! I would also like to add that prior to Water's departure from Floyd, I had the opportunity to have seen about 10 of Floyd's performances starting in the early 70s. Therefore, I have seen Roger Waters at his best and less than his best, IMO! I preferred him at his best -- with Floyd! Finally, I can only imagine the great albums the world has been denied due to Rock Star's egos and selfish dreams of superiority on all their parts! With my deepest condolences to Rick Wright's family, friends, and fans, I can't help but think that it's NOT too early to say RIP to all the surviving members of Floyd! Waters attempting to re-create DSOTM and removing all input from the other members sounds like musical suicide to me. He wasn't the only band member who contributed to that album. One song was written by Wright and another one was co-written with Waters. Gilmour's fluid guitar work and Wright's atmospheric keyboards added much to the overall sound/atmosphere. So did the sound effects added by Mason and Alan Parsons. Leaving out their input on a future re-recording will surely be a letdown to most PF fans.

Personally I love a momentary lapse of reason and Division Bell, have both albums along with Dark side of the moon original copy, Pink Floyd has left us with great memories and great music, Roger Waters w/ Pink Floyd was great, without, Not so much.

Strange that Roger Waters can not agree to a peaceful agreement with David Gilmour when he can lecture world leaders about making peace.

Love to see others giving love to The Division Bell. May not have the complexity of Animals, may not have the prog music of WYWH and may not have strong lyrics as DSOTM and The Wall, but musically it's just wonderful, pure beautifulness.

Kudos to Waters for his contributions when he was in the band, but when he basically said Pink Floyd was nothing without him, after The Wall / back in the 80s, my opinion of him fell into the gutter. That's why I would never go see him in concert. On the flipside, every interview I've seen of David Gilmour, he is always very humble and seems to be pretty even keel, whereas Roger is so full of himself. BTW, "Division Bell" is an amazing album, right up there with DSOTM and the others.

Right on, Michael! DSotM is a masterpiece. Roger Waters will be in for a big surprise when his version is barely recognized. I don’t care who you are. John Lennon once stated he wanted to re-record his Beatles songs. McCartney did re-record a few of his Beatles songs. They were not anywhere near or close to being better or improved upon. It’s not the individual who made these songs great. It was each band member’s contribution which created the songs’ and albums’ greatness. Oh, and Waters needs to stay far away from politics.

I saw Floyd in 1994 and didn't miss Roger once. I saw Roger and missed the other guys.
