Welcome to the new MichaelTJD60 headquarters in beautiful Lancaster County, Pennsylvania! After some extensive searching, and spending two months living in a hotel, I finally found a place to call home (much closer to my job than living in New Jersey). This marks the start of a new chapter in my life. I am now renting a small old Victorian house on 1/4 acre in the heart of Amish country, with an old barn in the back of the property which has a nice little 2-bay garage/shop area. I worked out a deal with my next-door neighbor to use both garage bays, and quickly began hauling up all of my shop tools and equipment from NJ. I now have plenty of space to work on tractor projects and to finally expand my tool collection. This is where most of my videos will be taken from now on, as I moved everything up from New Jersey (with the exception of the JD 210 and most of my attachments which I'm not currently using). I am still working on getting the tools organized and put away, but it's coming along nicely.
To kick off the new chapter, I purchased a couple small farm tractors which will make quick and easy weekend projects. I bought a 1979 International Harvester Cub tractor that came in on trade at the dealer where I work, and will be fixing it up soon. I also decided I wanted a small two-cylinder Deere tractor (before I'm ready to bring my grandfather's JD 60 up), so I fell into a deal on a 1941 John Deere H that is in the process of being restored. Shouldn't take much to get it running and should turn into a nice little show tractor and plow day tractor. I'm glad to finally have the space to store larger tractors and start tinkering with a wider range of different machines. I can't wait to see what kinds of projects come rolling into the shop over the next few years, and what kinds of videos I'll be able to make now that I'm living in a different environment. This is the start of a new era for my channel, and my life in general, and I'm excited to see where it goes! Thanks for watching and as always, thanks for your continued support!

Thanks! I chose to rent the place almost entirely because of the barn...there weren't a whole lot of rental properties available in the area to begin with (at least online), let alone properties with some kind of barn or garage).

@@MichaelTJD60 thanks! One thing of note, mine actually has the hydraulic lift setup, identical to the setup on yours. Really shows how little they had to change the tractor over the years. By the way, still waiting to see what that new mystery garden tractor is...

@@Tractors101 I don't think many of the earlier ones had hydraulic lift so your tractor must be pretty uncommon. But yeah it's neat to see how much (or how little) these changed over 33 years of production.

Looks like you’ve done a lot of towing with your trucks. How does the 5.4 do towing wise? My trucks is an 04 Tacoma with the v6. It’s a great daily driver but just doesn’t have the guts to go up a slight hill with my 5x10. I’ve towed with a few diesels and it’s almost like the trailer isn’t there. I’d like to know how a v8 gasser handles it.
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 3 жыл бұрын
The 5.4's make most of their torque above 2000 RPM, so they like being revved when I'm pulling a decent load. Gas V8's in general don't make much low-end torque, it's all up top. The 5.4's are kind of a dog compared to today's engines, but still make OK power for their size. The one in the red truck is rated 320 HP while the one in the blue truck is rated 260 HP, but they both pull about the same. I think the red truck pulls a little easier at highway speed.
@enginesandoutdoors3238
@enginesandoutdoors3238 3 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelTJD60 My Tacoma makes all of its power at 3,000 which is still barely anything (190 hp). On the other hand my grandpa has a Chevy 2500 with the massive 8.1 vortec which was Chevys way of competing with the triton 6.8 v10. That truck makes a lot of bottom end power however it still gets a whopping 9 mpg. Looks like your right in the middle of them two.
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 3 жыл бұрын
@@enginesandoutdoors3238 Yeah that sounds about right. I've only driven a couple of V10's and haven't towed anything with them, I'd be curious to see how they compare to a 5.4 and then to a bigger diesel like the 7.3. The V10 is just the 5.4 with two more cylinders...which means it comes with all the same headaches the 5.4's had. Gotta find one that's been well-maintained so you can avoid the headaches. I've had to do some work to the 5.4 in the blue truck (intake manifold, plugs, coils, etc), but both have generally been pretty reliable.
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 3 жыл бұрын
@@enginesandoutdoors3238 In a few years when I'm ready to send the blue truck down the road I'll be moving up to a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel...most likely a 7.3. It will be mostly for towing and weekend drives.
@enginesandoutdoors3238
@enginesandoutdoors3238 3 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelTJD60 I’d get a 7.3 before they cost more then they did new. I’m sure living the triton life must be fun. I’m no experts on them but I hear the two major issues are the spark plug threads not being long enough and the exhaust manifold hardware becoming one with the engine, then snapping off.

Does that tractor have a pto?
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 3 жыл бұрын
The H does not. It was optional but not very useful for the size and HP rating of those tractors. But then again, the 515 RPM PTO on the Cub tractors wasn't too useful either...

so how I think it's going to go sharing a garage with your next next door neighbor if he has his car in there while your working it's a bad idea who pays for electric !!??,be careful what you do
@MichaelTJD60

We split the electric. The only time he's ever come into that garage is to have a beer with me when I'm working in there...if he ever does keep his car in there it's only for a short period of time anyway.
