He should've never won the ballon d'or in 1983. Players like Zico, Maradona, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Preben Elkjær deserved it more.

Elkjær in 1983? He was still at Lokeren. Half of Zico's year wasn't eligible and Maradona wasn't Ballon d'Or worthy yet.

@@Johannes-Risager Zico only came to Italy in Autumn of 1983 and, in my opinion, he was already slightly past his best (while Maradona was yet to reach his peak). Same for Kalle - they both hit peak at the late 70's/early 80's with Platini breaking away from them & the likes of Dalglish come 1983.

Zico and Maradona weren't eligible, as they were south americans. Maybe Schuster and Dalglish were, not Elkyaer yet
