Michelle Pfieffer says the allegations against Harvey Weinstein exposed the "systemic" mistreatment of women in Hollywood.
The Oscar-nominated actor was joined by Olivia Colman, who agreed that the scandal has paved the way for a long-overdue discussion to be had.
They were speaking to the BBC's Andrew Marr while promoting their latest film, Murder On The Orient Express.

It's not rude though - when in a junket situation like this, the interview only gets around 10 minutes, so they need to get to the point quickly - and as Morgan Freeman once said, that the best way to speak by not saying anything is to add more pauses and beats to your answers. He was just doing his job.

@@actornwriter it can be the way the interview is edited too. I recall Brandon Flowers going mad as he was interviewed on American tv and was challenged about his Religion by an atheist and they edited the interview to make Brandon look stupid/losing the argument and he went mad. Likewise magazine articles are too often tampered with-Gynweth Partlow was stung bad in one as they misquoted her saying something very controversial. If you are ever to do a magazine/newspaper article the interview should always be recorded for legal reasons to safeguard the celebrity.

This clip renders Ricky Gervais' 2020 Golden Globe Awards monologue huge justice. In the monologue he mentions the brutal truth, barely disguising it as humor. Names like Ronan Farrow ( in the positive way ), Jeffrey Epstein, and Harvey Weinstein were mentioned. The monologue was nothing short of sheer courage, and brutal honesty, by Gervais. A comeuppance that has been a long time coming !

I believe the actresses. I don't see why people are so quick to defend Harvey and disbelieve endless actresses accounts of what happened to them.
@gvibration1
@gvibration1 6 жыл бұрын
Everyone believes them. Everyone knew for decades. Thousands of actresses visited Harvey for career advancement. Oprah used to drive them around to his place. She said "they were adults, they knew what they were doing". Presumably most of the sex was consensual. The obvious problem, from Oprah and Meryl Streep down, is that everyone supported at least 'shushing' complaints. Brad Pitt didn't when Gwyneth Paltrow was his girlfriend. It's reported he went right up to Weinstein and physically threatened him. Gwyneth said Weinstein never bothered her again. It is a HUGE problem when 2 of the most powerful people in a global multi billion dollar industry called him, in thank you speeches on the industries biggest night, "a god" (Meryl) and the reason for this success (Meryl). What could aspiring young actresses think?

Nothing about Brad Pitt nor the reporting of the incident lends itself to your interpretation. It would be a valid assessment for many successful or big ego people. Relatively early in his career, I'm not certain he would have known the extent of the Harvey Weinstein thing. Women would have been throwing themselves at Harvey, so it may not have seemed egregious. What is definite though is that when someone stood up to the bully, they immediately stopped and did not try again. That is a genuine victory in and of itself.

Michelle makes a great point about the distinction between being hit on and being harassed. There is no rulebook. It's never been discussed and that's why we are seeing a few men unfairly losing their careers. Chris Matthews complimented a narcissistic self serving opportunistic female journalist and lost his job because of it. She even admitted it wasn't "illegal sexual harassment" and didn't cross the line. So what's next? Companies having to hire robotic mediators so that men and women don't communicate anymore in the workplace.

@@horaciocapanelli-soto4710 Complimenting a woman by just saying she looks pretty or super fit "without eye raping or touching her at all" or being creepy or aggressive isn't sexual harassment at all. An intelligent, well aware and present man should be able to tell if a woman is uncomfortable with his compliment and if he notices she is bothered even by calling her pretty or sweet at the workplace even once, just drop if immediately and never bring it up again. Do these men deserve to lose their jobs or careers and have their entire lives and reputations destroyed because they complimented a woman even if it was at the workplace but didn't say anything perverse and aggressive and their intention was never perverse or creepy and they were coming from a genuine place??? I am sorry but that is not sexual harassment or a breach of conduct or law when the man didn't violate a woman's dignity publicly in any way and never intended to.

My husband and I have had these discussions since all the survivors came forward. I was SA'd in 2015 by a family member, did the kit and took him to court. Of course R*** and molestation fall into the same category of violation I think but are still drastically different on both sides. On the other hand his many times doesn't a woman get hit on or followed in DC (that's where I'm from) or any other city or place where there are these types of guys. You say no and they're "persistent" if you want to call it that, but yes will it get to the point of robots or a commitee to determine if you're being inappropriate or criminally inappropriate. Thanks for reading this, I hope you have a great wee. I liked your comment and think its something,imo, should be discussed more.

''Why did these women not talk about it??'' Same reason people in all industries and professions don't talk about the corruption, bullying and unprofesslionalism etc. that goes on in every industry. Be it nursing, teaching or working in a supermarket there are corruptions and immoral things that always go on, people keep quiet as they fear for their jobs I suppose. You speak up and you are taking on those at the top which never ends well. Think of your own workplace- are there scandalous things that go on there that you know of and know that if it was publicised it would be scandal or controversial?

They target young women because they’re still insecure and don’t know what to do. After dealing with it several times, women know exactly what to say and do. It’s amazing what confronting them with real words especially in front of others does. They do it secretly but it’s not secret anymore when you loudly call them out. Remember “just say no”.....same concept
