@@Julianimator yes, but for her she didn't speak along with her family as they spoken English and Malay. Not everyone spoken cantonese in that country!

@@general682002 Her mom actually speaks cantonese pretty well. She probably spoke broken cantonese growing up similar to a lot of Chinese Americans who speak Chinese informally. However takes to being in Hong Kong films her cantonese is now a lot better than the average Chinese Malaysian who speaks it

It's actually funny, today through the interview or when reporter asked her especially the recent Variety interview after she won the Oscars, a reporter from Asia asked if she can speak cantonese or mandarin, she said she still can't speak cantonese properly but can speak mandarin no problem! I think Michelle just decided to stick to one language as most Chinese speaks Mandarin! She was in 2013 HK film festival and when she won the award, she wants to speak English as she was comfortable! Her actual speaking cantonese was when she came back to do movie with Jackie Chan on Police Story 3, that's her actual voice! If her movies plays her actual broken cantonese without any dubbing during her first several films before retired in 1988, it won't look good on her reputation!

@@general682002 thats impressive. She didn’t learn mandarin till she did crouching tiger hidden dragon and her mandarin was really terrible in that film. Glad she improved her mandarin
