Reflections on Marriage, Stunts, and Dim Sum (with Michelle Yeoh)
GP is joined today by actress Michelle Yeoh. They talked about Yeoh's beginnings as a ballet dancer in England, which unexpectedly led to her career in acting, and how she landed her first commercial with Jackie Chan. They talked about responsibility in family and why Yeoh decided early on in her career to step away from acting to prioritize her first marriage and how she feels about that decision now. Other highlights: how the pair felt winning their respective Oscar awards at very different stages in their lives, maintaining friendships with exes, what it was like for Yeoh to work with GP’s husband on The Brothers Sun, and what they order at dim sum.

@@ceterisparibus8966 Yes she did say that because in the Chinese culture, especially rich family that owns businesses like her ex husband, it is a desired thing to have sons to carry on the family name. In Michelle case, she wasn't able to conceive at all. That explains the separation.

Also couldn’t have kids and we tried for many years. Eventually my ex husband left me in the middle of in vitro. We will never friends after such a betrayal (insisting on destroying 6 frozen embryos) and I will not be anyone’s stepmother. It is as it is. I will not pretend to let it go, when no kindness was shown to me. My experience was much more brutal and that’s why going forward I plan only my freedom.

@@dinh5532 I didn’t realize I owed anyone positive energy. Aren’t you the one on your high horse about allowing people to have their different life paths and experiences? So narcissistic to expect positive energy from everyone all the time and with language processing disabilities it’s often essential to be able to relate to what’s being communicated in some way. Was just a statement of fact. My childhood and adolescence and young adulthood too in fact were too traumatic abusive and neglectful for me to plan anything.
