Hi everyone and welcome back!
In this video the whole family spends a couple of days at the off-grid property for New Years with an objective of getting the wood stove sorted out up at the cliff cabin. We needed to take the entire piping system down in order to re-connect all the 3" pipes that came apart on me. This was a necessary evil, and was really challenging for a variety of reasons, but we managed to get the job done. BUT, the wood stove itself still wouldn't work properly. No matter what we did (and we tried everything), it wouldn't draft properly. We took the cap off the top even, which required me to be pretty dangerously high up on the ladder more than a few times. In the end we discovered the problem and it is now functioning as it should (THANK GAWD! - this was extremely frustrating, and I think it shows in the video 😬). I'm not sure if anyone else with that wood stove had the same problem, but it's definitely something I will let the company know about.
Anyway - it's done (for now). I will now move on to what I think is the next important phase of the cabin build! Hopefully I am able to get out there next week as we are expecting a big snowfall warning in the next few days.
Thanks so much for watching and see you in the next video!
M💝

A Pro Tip: When using a reciprocating saw always place the adjustable base of the saw against the material that you are cutting. It makes cutting much faster. In your case, place the base against the 4x4 lumber to cut the bolt quicker.

That feel good feeling comes from your accomplishments. I am a retired carpenter. I used to get a feel good rush when I was laying down to go to sleep, after a productive day at work. My mind would wander over only positive thoughts and recollections of the day. Working with your hands and using your brain is the panacea we all need.

It’s puzzling to us too - how they managed to transport that much hose (that’s not easy to manoeuvre) must have meant they really needed it. Nothing else appears to be missing, when they could have easily taken more things 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you use this B-52's Love shed shack as a place to vent frustrations, we could call it 'A Crabbin' On The Cliff.' You might be able to drill a couple more vent holes in the front of your stove between the factory holes (or grinder open and connect them) and then reattach the screen cover back over the now bigger opening(s).

Michelle, Sorry about the theft. That stinks. Few random thoughts and questions: - Safety Glasses. Just put them on before you pickup a tool. - What kind of vehicle do you use to transport you, Steve and the pack? - DeWalt makes an old->new adapter for their new 20V lithium batteries for use with older tools: p/n: DCA1820. That way you can get new batteries and use them with old or new tools. Don't bother with the knockoff brand replacement batteries... I've had no luck with them.

Hey Michael the one thing to consider on the wood stove is fresh air intake to the actual cabin. In order for air to go up the flue you need to have sit coming into the room. Opening the vent on the stove won’t help if the space is hermetically sealed.

To fit flues -- use 1" or 3/4" of long nosed pliers to bend the crimped / corrugated end of flue tighter to reduce overall diameter of said end of flue to be more easily inserted into un-crimped piece.

The screen you took off the air intake should be there to keep sparks from flying out of the stove. The problem you were having was not enough air flow. If you place the screen on standoffs like tubes about 1/2" from the stove you will get the air flow and also have a spark shield. Great video. Assume place to live. Just little cold for a person from California.

Most 18 - 20 volt cordless tools come with a 2,000 mAh battery, which are limited in capacity and run down quickly. Frustrating. Do a search online for 4,000 - 5,000 mAh batteries. The price of them will make you take a deep breath, but the added capacity makes them a joy to use. 2,000's still have a place, as in when needing to work with them overhead for any length of time. The bigger ones are much heavier. Glad to see you got the stove going. I was going to suggest taking it out onto the deck and dismantling it to see if some packing material got left in a duct or somesuch. Maybe vent holes not drilled.....but you got it. Happy New Year to all of you.
