We left our home and our pets for over a month, and spent that month at sea getting our Diesel Duck 462 from Taiwan to Japan. In this video we carry on from the last, which was in Okinawa at the Yonabaru Marina.
In this month we would travel 1,000 NM in the open ocean, battling strong headwinds and unfavourable seas for most of it. Half way through the trip I caught a Japanese Plague and was really quite ill for the remainder of the trip (and am still suffering side effects today). You know when you're deathly ill and all you wanna do is be home alone, away from people and comfortable in bed with your pets? I dreamt of that a lot, but never ever got it. Haha. I kinda lost my focus on filming and documenting this trip with my heart and soul as I really just needed to focus on the tasks at hand, do my best to prevent the others on board from getting sick, stay as rested as possible so that I could do my watches during both the day and night, and also just try and enjoy the journey as much as possible. I also don't love, or really enjoy 'travel vlogging' and filming in front of people, or in public, so that was a continual struggle for me. But, I hope that I was able to put this together in somewhat of a cohesive and informative format, although I'd never be able to really describe or show you what this journey was REALLY like. It was hard, it was no Club Med, but I pulled through and was there to do this for Steve and his love of the sea, boats, and his dream of being just like Jaques Cousteau on the Calypso.
We are home now, for only a day though, and I am just so grateful to be home with the pets. I really struggled, missing them so much this time being away. In the last 24 hours I think I've kissed them all 1,000 times 🤭💕
I have some news to share with you all, so I will see you in the next video for that!
M 💝💝💝💝💝

Good thing the Captain is great at troubleshooting. With your assistance of course. Not surprised that the Japanese people treated you with kindness and respect. Good things happen to good people! In spite of all the issues and your seasickness it was quite an adventure. Thanks for sharing Michele. Take care and welcome home lady! P.S. Good to see the fur babies managed well!

I grew up with a boat always there. My father’s last boat was a 65 foot motor sailor - he would have loved Steve’s boat! I found this video made me miss my dad so much. You’re right repairs and maintenance are constant. His last huge trip was, Vancouver, Long Beach, Marqueses Islands, Tahiti, Hawaii, home. I was on part of that trip and like you suffered from sea sickness. Anyway, I love your boat and envy your adventures to come!

Adventures are great to look back on and they become great stories,we were stranded off the coast of St Vincent's, lost the water pump, luckily, they sent a mechanic out ,fixed it.Know what you went through Mich , loved early in the video when the alarm blared you lost the water into the bilge and Dennis looked up from the helm and said " go back to Port"and Steve's head popped up and he said ,"no ! KEEP GOING " as you were filming priceless.

He initially told Dennis to head back as at first he thought it was salt water coming in (which means the shaft seal gone, which means the boat is sinking. Lol). But he realized it was just the fresh water line, so no big deal. Shut the pump off and keep going 👍😀

Multi million $$$ boat, fixed it with maxi-pads...OK 😅 Michele don't worry about not doing enough of the videos for us my goodness that was so amazing and beautiful to see all those wonderful places most all of us will never get to see if not for you and Steve and buying this wonderful boat and trekking the seas to someday bring it all the way home. The sights and Japanese people and others you've met along the way have been so gracious in helping yall with whatever you needed. The karaoke night was so fun to see yall just relaxing and having so much fun singing and laughing just an awesome experience for yall and for us to see. I just hate you've had to endure so much sea sickness and whatever the flu was you came down with.To take such a wonderful month of sea travel and seeing places so beautiful and to have to be nauseous through much of it is just a shame but your one tough girl as well all know and you pushed through like always. The life you two are living is so wonderful and a dream for most of us but love taking the journey with you through video so thank you so much for doing what you could for all of us. That meal you cooked from scratch was amazing and I could tell that the guy helping with the trip really loved it along with Steve diving onto that bowl of soup. LSteves humble comment about the Japanese lady checking him out was so funny. WHY WOULD SHE. HES ONE OF A KIND THATS FOR SURE AND ALL YOURS MICHY. Glad you made it home safe and sound with all your pups and cat. Can't wait for the next one. Thanks 👍 😊

Hi 👋, that sounded like a very stressful holiday, what with being unwell/seasick , and probably with your boat, it sounds like it needs a lot of money spent on it, servicing, it’s probably like a lot of things if they’re not use constantly, Things dry up, and then things start to failed as same as humans, a shame about losing your drone, it did look like you had some grate people on your voyage, around the region of Japan, And it looks like they were very hospitable, friendly and welcoming, and at least now you can rest, and get ready to plough on with your next adventure, I presume it’s going to be snow on the ground soon if not already, I had one of the coldest nights here -5°, Stay safe, look forward to seeing and hearing your journey, Phil from the moulin,

Steve is quite the wizard as far as figuring out things. He must've been really loving (well maybe not loving) but enjoying the troubleshooting of problems with a positive outcome. Seemed strange not to see any animals except for that little dog. Surprised there weren't any flocks of birds in those small ports you went into. Truly an adventure. Thank you Michelle, welcome home! Sorry about the seasickness, but, well, oceans are so flipping big! Nice to see the calmer waters during the battery switch incident! You certainly lived through the grace of many friends. Rest up,10 days till Christmas! Hi Steve!

I started my day at 2:45am going on this trip with you guys while enjoying a french roast pour over. My only sailing experience was back in 1979 sailing from Ballard Harbor to Bethel Alaska aboard the Husky II a former LCI Navy sub tender converted to tow boat/pilot vessel. R.I.P. Capn Ron Sumstad.

Wow!! A long voyage and a very happy homecoming. Thank you so much for such a beautifully put together vid. The people of Japan seem so kind and generous. Very best wishes from the Isle of Man.

Michell, glad y’all are home safe and sound! Quite an adventure y’all have been on. I lived aboard a 44 foot boat for four years, and every day was an adventure. If anything can go wrong, on a boat, it will. Great times though, even with all the challenges and problems. I will be glad to see you back out on the cliff. May God bless you and all that you do for sharing your life with us! ♥️🦅❤️✝️🇺🇸🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺

So cool to see you in Japan. I visited for six weeks back in 1981 at 21yo. Everyone I met was incredibly warm and welcoming. I now know how unique those travels were and relish them even more. From this, looks like you guys are having a very similar experience.

OMG. I'm pretty speechless. I've gotten the traveling bug out of my system personally after many great adventures and even though I'm not that old (55) there's no place I'd rather be than home, in our log cabin, watching the fire in the wood stove, with our two dogs, like I am doing right now. Our boat has given us perilous moments and at least one serious S.O.S. and I absolutely felt the joy you and Steve felt as you were walking up the steps to the front door! Thank you for documenting your journey so that so many can live vicariously through yours and Steve's adventures!

Wonderful video. Very different content from usual, and very interesting. With all the tribulations, glad everyone was safe, and had a good time (at least what you presented!). Compliments to Steve on applying his expertise to the navigation and troubleshooting the trip required. Hope it left you guys with fond memories. Quite a life experience!
