@@dirtydawg448 hi, don't get me wrong. I never said that I was writing off Romero. But in terms of being a unit, he isn't on the same level as vdv or Philips. Romero could add goals to his game. We haven't really seen a CB get 5 goals a season really since King and perhaps Toby. Height plays a part in that for set pieces.

@@jake6379 tbh I think it’s pretty insulting to Romero really as the new signings don’t have much experience at all - look at the CHs we have bought in the last five years and we had to convert a poor midfield player and an average left back just to shore things up - who is to say that these two new signings are going to be any different - Sanchez Rodon Foyth Longlet Tanganga ……….. none of these players including the new signings are in the same class as Romero - I wish them both well but let’s not kid ourselves

I'm not being disrespectful if I am saying Romero is not the quickest. He isn't. His positional sense is what makes up for that. Necessity dictates it. I'm a season ticket holder, and believe me, I lost count of how many times Romero was the best player on the pitch for large parts of games in the shite system we were playing under Conte. Let's be honest. Tanganga, Davies were never meant to be CBs. Rodon was never the answer to succession planning for Toby. And Dier was, for a few years actually quite good, in multiple positions, so let's not rewrite history. He has just dropped form significantly, and I believe he won't be going anywhere, so I hope he rediscovers his best form under Ange. Have you watched any of Philips? Have you read anything of what they were saying about him at Blackburn? I have high hopes for him. There is nothing wrong with that. Let's also be honest about the system we played under Jose, the bearded wonder and conte. It was all shitehouse stuff. Tactics based in fear and sense of deficiency rather than intent and purpose. Front foot, attacking, brave football is what we need to be doing. But that needs the leadership to do it. Foundationally, built on fast defenders, it's something we havent had since walker left. Correct me if I am wrong? Even though we had lots of problems last year, we still had the best start to a season in ages. The drop off was significant and largely due to factors out our control. But we are dealt the hand and we must play it. The same players will surprise many this season I think.

Mate romero is a great talent. But I don't remember flinching every time jan or Toby ran towards a man. They didn't slide as much because they had it in the head. But romero makes last ditch tackles in midfield when there's not even a break on. I do rate him but when we start saying shit like this early .....mmmm I dunno.
