I hate it when people pronounce an X in a word as ex, my friend Xavier hates it even more, in France its not a problem for him, he blames the X-Men movies!

@@AndrewAHayes My favorite part is that E3D themselves say explicitly it's meant to be pronounced "Obsidian" lol. Seems a lot of people missed the memo ^^;

Great how to video, but I would change one thing. If you put the top wheels on first, and put the bottom wheel on loosely, it's easier to hang the carriage on the gantry and then tighten and adjust the bottom wheel than it is to hold the carriage up and try to attach the top wheels with one hand.
@ModBotArmy
@ModBotArmy Жыл бұрын
Not a bad idea. I think that since the bottom wheel requires both hands since it uses a lock nut Micro Swiss has the bottom wheel first in their pdf. If that works best then absolutely though.

It would be awesome to see some 3d printing videos that you use to fix around the house or how you implement 3d prints to your work flow. 👍👍

Critique if I may *(you are awesome...just wanted to point something out). At 14.42 you show the metal knife Ender provides scraping a build off the stock Ender plate. IME (I have a farm and I run a 3D help group...just saying I have some experience)...that metal Ender palette knife has no place near that stock bed. I've seen so many new folks (naturally) use the provided knife and in mere months wear the textured surface rapidly away. Technically...that shouldn't be a problem as we can certainly print on smooth borosilicate...but then again, we are talking about newer builders that may not recognize the rapid change in adhesion and need (know how) to correct it. It also defeats the purpose of having the texture at all (I frankly like the stock plates. I Do mostly use PEI or carbon fiber flex steel...but totally loved and would use again the stock Ender build platens) Another drawback to that metal knife is that folks who get in the habit of using it use it for all kinds of knocking around the carriage. Trying to pluck off filament from the nozzle or reset the silicone sock....y'all know where this is going...then they short out their machine by slipping that knife across the heater cartridge and thermistor. That's an expensive mistake indeed.

Are you going to post a followup with examples of prints that show a benefit from this upgrade? A comparison of speeds, quality, filament types on the same prints before and after the install would be super helpful for anyone considering this
@ModBotArmy
@ModBotArmy Жыл бұрын
The main thing you are getting is the ability to print with high temp abrasives (if you switch to an obxidian nozzle). On top of that a high quality extruder with a lot of push force and also hardened steel gears. There is a lot of info out there on the NG and Revo so at this point I am not planning on it. (This could change though)
@MarkPickavance
@MarkPickavance Жыл бұрын
This is an useful evolution from the stock NG. I've been using that for the past year, and my biggest gripe is disassembly is a pain if I get a blockage, and cleaning the filament gears means dismantling lots of parts. Not sure this would help with the latter, but it might make clearing clogs quicker.

Daniel, I did this upgrade a couple months back from the original NG, and I love this hot end. This is also the printer I put the KlackEnder on (with Klipper), and that fave me some headaches I'm still trying to work through. I would love to see you install a KlackEnder on this printer; I'm sure I would learn from it and get my issues worked out.

Did you see the KlackEnder video I previously made? It was using the MicroSwiss NG standard. Other than Z offset, the process (should) be identical.

Nice extruder but it's too late for me. I purchased and installed the same as OEM extruder on my ender 3 v2. In any case. Thank you for letting us know about a new option for our printer.

Most people seem to have bought their enders for $99. A toolhead that is $50 more than the printer is, IMO a terrible value proposition. The entire point of that printer is that it is very functional for its very low price. Once you're dumping hundreds of dollars more into it, you really should just be upgrading to better printers. If you wanted similar functionality in an upgrade, CHC heater for $20, bimetal heatbreak for $10, Gears for a printed sherpa for $20. $50 gets you fast heating, direct drive, V6 nozzle compatiblity. Don't get me wrong, for generally higher budget builds I think the Revo is a stellar hotend. I just don't see it as cost effective to put high end components on low end printers.

GREAT Video. After 8 months how are you liking the extruder. How hard was it to dial-in. I just installed the BTT H2 V2s Lite REVO Extruder. YES, I have all the issues that others have reported. Current issue is...inconsistent extrusion resulting in Blobs that hit on my EZABL probe throwing everything off. So I want to try something else. I use the REVO HF 0.6mm nozzle. The Microswiss is a little pricey so I want to be relatively sure it works with little to no issues. So another updated video would be really helpful. PS: I know one issue is that with the Microswiss extruder you will loose a little bit of bed space. Thank You

WHY am I watching this?!?! I’ve installed an NG on all 3 of my Enders. I guess your videos are just that interesting Daniel… Also, why bother with obsidian when microswiss makes some of the best Tool Steel nozzles…?

I kinda wonder if they should include a 'dummy port' for the old bowden tube to slot into, that way you can cable-tie and constrain the rest of the cable assembly to something with a natural springyness to it, as in a PTFE tube will help disperse it's bend, while wires can start to weaken and bend more in one spot over time.

I have an Ender 3 that is sat doing nothing, I want to fit a Bamboo Lab hotend to it with a Bondtech BMG I have spare, the Revo is a nice hotend but I cant justify the price, saying that I have a copperhead on my Pro 3D V-King 400 but that project involved building the printer from the very best self-sourced parts I could lay my hands on.

This kit is nice, and with all the remaining parts some crazy guy will probably make an IDEX mod, you wouldn't need that many extra parts to do it.
@ModBotArmy

Thats actually a really cool idea. For someone that just wants a second tool head for water soluble you would have a spare hotend and extruder that could do it.

Just installed this last night, updated e steps, retraction, and retraction speed. Leveled bed a hand full of times and adjusted z offset for (CR touch) absolutely can’t get my initial later to stick to bed. Same filament and settings I was using other than what mentioned above by my stock extruder. Not sure what I’ve done wrong? My bed mesh looks great all pretty close to each other clean PEI bed I was using previously filament is dry.

Thanks for making this video, just what I needed. Now I know the type of connectors the NG Revo came with! Would I need to change the firmware if I mounted a bltouch using their downloadable mount? I had a bltouch mounted on the stock hotend assembly.
@ModBotArmy
@ModBotArmy Жыл бұрын
Yes, Creality has a firmware for the bltouch. There may be a few other tweaks like bltouch offset that you will want to apply as well.

If you have ABL then yeah absolutely there is no need to also have the z endstop. It can cause your wheels to bump into it.

I have the original Micro Swiss NG on my CR10. Do they make an upgrade kit for the Revo? Or is it a completely different design?
@ModBotArmy

The NG portion of it is the same, but the aluminum where it meats the hotend is quite different. I dont see how it would be possible to convert without a completely new aluminum body.

Revo is roughly a $90 hotend so to get both the hotend and a killer extruder for $150 is really not a bad price.

Hope the come up with a way to put this awesome hotend on an Ender 3 S1 Pro! I like the sprite extruder but the cheap way they setup the tension spring makes it half baked and really want to use these hotend nozzles!

Off hand I cannot think of why it wouldnt work. I believe it is still 2020 for X and roller wheels. Maybe needing some adjustment to endstops? I would shoot Micro Swiss a message.

I believe you would need to change out the ribbon cable to a standard ender 3 heater and thermistor and run a new cable for the cr touch fans ect
Why direct drive is not automatically better than bowden tube
